Chef and Owner Camari Mick, a James Beard Award nominee, leads the kitchen alongside Chef de Cuisine Tajeh Porter, and together they're behind dishes like the Suya Steak Frita, built on bold, smoky spice and rich, satisfying flavor. Mornings bring the bakery case, with coconut canelés, malta vita sticky buns, and beef patty croissants.
The thirty-four seat dining room is warm and intimate, wrapped in gold and copper tones, with walls lined by the work of Black and brown women artists, brought together by Gallery Director Cierra Britton. Calabash serves no alcohol; instead, we pour house fermented, non-alcoholic adaptogenic mocktails. Highlights of this visit were the 40 oz ribeye, the campo rosso chicories, cranberry beans, and, of course, the chocolate trifle for dessert. There's never a bad, or even a remotely disappointing bite. It's also so refreshing to dine somewhere that genuinely cares about offering thoughtful, balanced, surprising, and fun desserts. This was my fourth visit this year (Chambers is becoming a go-to spot for milestones and celebrations), and somehow the bread got even more perfect? I was in NYC for my mom’s 62nd birthday and it was her first time in NYC, no one made it special except Manhatta. 4 different people told her Happy Birthday + her name before we even got to the table. They also had a handwritten card for her. Staff was knowledgable & personable. They very clearly love their jobs & the restaurant does not do service, they do better!
