Cellar Bar (Al Fresco)
Realised after the table next to us was advised of the daily specials.
The woman who came in after me was given a glass of water immediately where as I had to ask for it.
Love Grossi Florentino for fine dining or quick pre show pasta.
Fabulous Italian food and coffee, excellent service and reasonable value for money. Love eating here!
Beautiful, busy place. Wonderful, authentic food. Got a table inside after our outdoor setting, and wonky table was a little too detached from the main group and vibe. Go back in a flash, great staff, service, and considering some Covid restrictions still in place, I suspect the next time we go twill be even cozier.
Service was really poor, they just seemed like they couldn’t keep up with the number of people. Missed basic things - like organised payment for someone, we were next and line and then they just walked off. Was really disappointed that the carbonara was taken off the menu, the whole reason we came. Cannoli was soft.
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal ens experience. Thank you
Underwhelming experience for a restaurant with a good reputation.
The service upon arrival was very strange. We were walked past several times as we waited to be seated. Then one waiter acknowledged us , we told him that we had a reservation and then he kept walking. We were not sure if we should follow him outside. When he returned he was guiding us to sit outside. We didn’t want to do that - it was cold and we had my grandmother with us. What’s the point of having a reservation if you’re then told there’s no room inside? There was a simple solution but it took a bit of back and forth to make that happen. After that service was efficient but not friendly. Food was excellent. Biscuits were a bit dry though.
Cellar Bar on Bourke St has been my go to restaurant for years - consistently excellent food, wine and service translates into a fantastic dining experience 100% of the time. Staff go out of their way to accommodate, recommend and make comfortable. I hope this magnificent establishment is well supported as we move into COVID normal, it’s one of my very favourite restaurants.
An iconic Melb venue! Amazing food and awesome service!
A perfect place on a sunny afternoon to catch up with an old friend. We only had one dish each and a glass of wine but no one hurried us on and there was no pressure to eat more. Excellent service therefore!
Amazing food, would definitely recommend the tortellini
Absolutely fantastic as usual - this is a great place to dine. The food is always excellent with delicious flavours and textures, uncomplicated and the wine list is great too - not exhaustive. Pricing is spot on and the service is always excellent - a true Melbourne dining experience at a Melbourne institution such as Cellar Bar.
We had a lovely meal and enjoyed sitting outside. The only negative thingI have is that my husband ordered a second glass of wine which never came.
It was fine due to Covid we were outside and the passerby’s were smoking which was not nice for non-smokers.
The waitress kept forgetting about us and waited a long time for wine although very apologetic for a top end restaurant they needed more staff outside. Also difficult to get their attention had to put hand up to get attention as a glance with a quite hi was not enough.
She knew the service was not great As she apologised multiple times.
Food was very quick and delicious
Excellent food and service. Fabulous attention to detail and a wonderful environment.
The staff were fabulous, the food delicious & the atmosphere perfect. We highly recommend Cellar Bar (Al Fresco) for a great night out.
A special birthday.
We were eating outside when at 8.30 gas works commenced on the corner of Bourke and Exhibition streets. The noise and the diesel fumes from the compressor of the jackhammer became unbearable. It was a beautiful mild night that was ruined as we were forced to go beside. We were told the works didn’t usually commence until midnight. We are all being encouraged to go back into the cbd and book into restaurants. We did that only to be greeted by the works. Extremely disappointed.
One of our favourites and we are never disappointed with the quality of the food!
We had not dines at Cellar Bar for a number of years.
Very pleasantly surprised at the food quality...served very cheerfully and professionally.
Very Melbourne and very Italian - Food is predictably good and the service attentive and helpful. The Cellar Bar is an institution for many people and some where you want to go back to even if you have been away for a while -
This is an icon of Melbourne dining. The prices are on the high side and service was teetering on this Tuesday lunchtime. The stand out dish was the pici and wild boar - a good rendition.
They let us made a reservation but the restaurant was closed.
Too slow. Only ordered a main dish each and it took an hour to arrive.
Delicious food. Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Defínetely will be back soon
The music was a bit loud for my mature ears. Otherwise excellent as always.
Amazing! Food great, wine great and atmosphere great
Great service, beautiful food , lovely weather for outside dining and live music from Vika and Linda!
Great food, good service and love the gnocchi!
Love this place for amazing Italian food and people watching
Very tasty and varied menu of Italian dishes. All freshly prepared. Accompanied by a good wine list and a selection of cocktails
food kinda sucked for an expensive place. especially the pasta
Fantastic dinner, the alfresco setup is lovely and the service was excellent. We enjoyed delicious food and the Cellar Bar was as good as we remembered. Perfect way to spend a special occasion.
With a 2hr booking our entrees didn’t come out for about an hour as they were pretty busy. So by the time we got our mains we didn’t have much time, however there was no one after our booking so from 7pm we stayed there til close! So it was good experience overall
Excellent and happy service with really beautiful food.
A lovely experience was had enjoying coffee, ice cream and biscotti on a sunny Wednesday afternoon, while I was being interviewed for a prospective job role.
They loved the venue so let's hope I get the job!
Food was outstanding, good to be going back to restaurants .
Food is great. Service is wonderful. Love the outdoor dining area. But the wine is twice the price of other restaurants, making the experience far more expensive than it ought to be. Yes, I could have had less to drink but it is a wine bar, after all. Paid almost exactly the same for two people (two courses each, plus olives to share, sparkling water & six glasses of wine total) as I paid the next day for three people at a fancy-pants winery - (two courses each, plus chips to share, sparkling water and five glasses of wine total). I've loved Florentino's Cellar Bar for years. I won't stop going but I think next time it will be dinner & one drink for me. Well over 200 bucks for a casual dinner for 2 is just way too much.
Had dinner with a friend at Cellar Bar Al Fresco on Friday night. We ordered a glass of wine which took nearly 20 mins to arrive. Bread and olive oil were provided but for 2 people, we were served 1.5 slices of bread. We looked around and noticed other 2-seater tables were being offered a more generous amount. Appetiser arrived at a reasonable time (before the wine!) Then mains took 50 minutes (no exaggeration). There were several waiters who looked at our empty table, made eye contact with us, then walked away to have a chat with other staff (probably about where our food is) but noone told us or even apologised about our food delay. It was only when we alerted them we had 10 mins to go with our booking (90mins max booking) that they said the food is on its way. The waiter we had wasn’t very pleasant and it was difficult to get any waiters’ attention as they seemed to be moving all over the place quickly. Food itself was extremely disappointing and overpriced for what they were. We had the seafood spaghetti and pumpkin tortellini. Both were very bland. The tortellini was so thick and there wasn’t enough pumpkin filling to go with the pasta. Appetiser was enjoyable- crochette di baccala but that and the ambience are about the only good things I have to say about this place. Will not be returning and will never recommend.
