Our ex experience at townhouse restaurant in Detroit was a wonderful experience Ashley. Our server was professional. Kept us on track with our meals all night, making great recommendations and highlighting meals that were fantastic. Our group of six intense on returning back again for dinner.

We recently had dinner at Townhouse while entertaining friends from out of town and celebrating two birthdays, and we had a wonderful evening overall. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with great lighting, a festive atmosphere and terrific ambiance. Our table was lovely, the food was very good, and although the menu felt somewhat limited, everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Our server was friendly and attentive. Our one significant criticism—and unfortunately the one thing that would deter us from returning—was the music volume. It was simply far too loud for dinner service. The deep-bass house music was literally vibrating the furniture, and the five of us had to lean in and repeat everything we said, practically shouting across the table to hear one another. At times we couldn’t even hear our server, and she couldn’t hear us. Later in the evening, the atmosphere became even more club-like, with costumed performers and a roaming conga drummer. It was energetic and visually interesting, but by then we were ready to leave because we were exhausted from trying to carry on a conversation. Our bill was over $500, including tip, and we didn’t object to the price—we knew we were choosing an upscale restaurant for a special evening. But at that price point, the customer experience matters just as much as the service, food and beverages. Being able to talk comfortably with the friends and family at your own table seems like a pretty fundamental part of that experience, which was missing. Townhouse has so much going for it: beautiful surroundings, good food, good service and a lively downtown Detroit energy. My one suggestion would be to reconsider the music volume during dinner hours. There’s a difference between creating energy in a room and overwhelming it. Turn the volume down a few notches, and Townhouse would be a much easier restaurant for us to recommend—and return to.

Accommodated our reservation although we arrived early. Enjoyed our bar seating. Great choice and the ideal stop for out-of-town guests soaking up the sights in downtown Detroit.

Food was very good apart from Elk dish which was very bland, well cooked but was not tasty. Excellent service for dinner and at the bar afterwards.
