Head chef and owner Milan Strbac’s childhood centred greatly on food. Always hungry to learn more about worldly cuisines and the unique ways in which they are prepared, Strbac’s early career spanned Fez Café, followed by the infamously cool Marque restaurant and Brooklyn Hotel Italian Restaurant.

However, Strbac’s true culinary calling came to light after an extensive trip exploring South East Asia, where he developed a passionate interest in Asian cookery. This ended in a firm decision to learn the ways, methods and art of this vibrantly multi-faceted cuisine.

All of this is set amidst a completely revamped and re-designed space resembling a bustling Asian marketplace with handmade silk handbags hanging from the roof, sourced by Strbac on a recent South East Asian trip. Neon graffiti and Thai street posters adorn the walls. The dining area combines bar and banquet seating and continues the sharing and casual eating concept of Strbac’s menu.

Great setting to enjoy some wonderful food with family whilst celebrating several birthdays. The waiters were knowledgeable and very courteous.

The flavours in every dish were amazing. Without a doubt the best Thai restaurant, and for that matter restaurant, that I have ever been to. The staff were so friendly and gave great recommendations on what to eat. Superb wine list too. A little pricey, so save it for special occasions. Will be coming back every chance I get.

I wasn’t overly impressed with the level of service when we dined at Sugarcane. Myself and my guest ordered the same dishes for starter and main and when the Pad Thai arrived, I queried whether it was a portion for two people as it was served in one bowl and our waiter said “I assume so” but when the bill came, it was clear we had only been served one serving. I also thought that the waiter was poor in topping up our drinks, which I would expect when our glasses are empty.

6 friends catching up for dinner . Food was excellent, 2 of us are vegan and quite a few of the fishes could be adapted easily to vegan option. Very tasty. The only bad thing we could say was that 90 minute sitting felt way too rushed ! It felt like the waiter was rushing us along all through the meal , and we still had wine in our glasses when we had to leave for the next sitting. To be honest I think the 8pm sitting is the way to go to relax over dinner .

I cannot fault this restaurant. The food is so fresh and delicious. I have been many times and everything I have tried on the menu is so good. This time I took my sisters and they loved it too.

We love living near this local gem. Friends we take to Sugarcane love it just as much as we do. The food is consistently and exceptionally great and the service is wonderful Everyone raves about the chicken, the brown rice, and the roti. They have never failed to delight.
