Rainforest Cafe - Chicago Downtown
Went for my sons birthday, pretty cool restaurant. It was too humid and sticky in there but with a rainforest atmosphere.. what you expect! Nice servers and decent food.
I was a bit disappointed in the sandwich I got. The mustard sauce was overpowering. The fries were better than my sandwich. My son had a hard time cause it was so loud. I would have liked for there to be a little better service. It was okay for the price we paid.
Service was very slow despite the restaurant not appearing to be busy.
The servers were nice with our large group. Thank you.
The server was wonderful, very kind, attentive & watched out for the food allergy of shellfish. It was a great experience for my 5 year old grandson too.
Overpriced half animals wasn’t even working a big waste of money I took my eldest daughter there I thought I would take my youngest daughter there for the same experience and it was a big let down
Food was very late....mediocre at best
Took our children ages 8 and 10 and they absolutely LOVED this place and are begging to go back. I was skeptical but I was also impressed with the theming and special touches - we went on. Sunday and they had a balloon animal artist who was a big hit so if you can go on a day that he’s there, it’s an added bonus! The gift shop was also really cool as well as the thunderstorm!!! Food was ok, but good enough for the overall experience. I had a salad but next time I’d skip right to the fried or coconut shrimp!
Very fun place to go! You don't go for an outstanding food experience but the concept is great.
I tookour grandon there for the first time and he loved it!
Literally amazing shrimp! I had the most fun time celebrating my 20th birthday at a childhood favorite of mine! I received a beautiful balloon rose and everything was just perfect: the service, the scenery, and the food. I wish I could come back all the time. I absolutely loved it here and I will remember it forever !
Only hip stairs open on a Friday night, plenary of open tables. Valet service terrible. Animatronics halfway working and outdated, old. Waiter was good...food was decent, high prices. Would not go back.
Brittany was an amazing server! Perfect special occasion dinner with our two young boys (3 yr and 18 mo).
We had a wonderful time celebrating my granddaughter’s 2 year Birthday! Great service, good food, and so much fun!
So much flavor in the food, would recommend.
2 adults and a toddler and we were there for 3.5 hours. One server was handling the entire upstairs and was unable to help the 4 tables he had.
Very poor service and lack of ownership. Never apologized for the wait or offered us refills or how the food was. It was just a poor experience and now i see why they are closing them down.
I waiters was not good at all with her job she really didn’t come to our table she wouldn’t find out the right information about things. And she was very slow
The service was extremely slow. We had to call our serve several times for the kids food as they were getting hungry. The restaurant was not even half full and they were running behind.
Service was extremely slow and food overly priced for quality of meal, however the experience was exceptional. Kids loved the animated gorillas and elephants. Won’t probably go back a second time.
We thought this would be a great place to bring friends that we’re visiting with kids. The cafe itself is great as there is so much to look at and keep the kids entertained. However, we ordered almost right away after being seated since we had already looked at the menu online. We waited an hour for our drinks to come and and two of them were wrong. When the food finally arrived (over an hour wait mind you with small children) it was incorrect and had to be returned. The waiter was trying to by apologetic but when we looked at the bill he had actually put in the wrong orders. The kids meals came last (easiest dishes to prepare and could have been brought out earlier) and one of them was incorrect and had to be taken back. When I asked the server if he had written the orders down since there were just too many mistakes, he brushed it off saying “they gave me the wrong tables food.” I also said is it usually this busy and he said “this isn’t even busy!” Overall our experience with the food and service was very disappointing for the price we paid. We ended up being there almost 3 hrs when we hadn’t planned on being there longer than 2!
The ONLY reason we went is because we thought our son would have fun... which he did. But somehow Rainforest Cafe STILL has the same terrible and overpriced food as it did 15 years ago... the last time I was there. I honestly don't know how they stay open.
Waitress was not good. She never checked on us and we didn’t get all of our food.
Had a 6pm reservation, not seated until 6:45 and not apologetic. Since this basically a kids restaurant they should realize how important timing is to families. Restaurant was mostly empty with seating only upstairs. We were seated, service came over 5 min later and asked for our order then, minimal interaction. Bathrooms are disgusting, there was not a clean bathroom for men or women. Very disappointing and clearly a restaurant in decline.
They were not able to locate our OpenTable booking. We waited for 45 min, after calling the manager and they got us seated.
The restaurant was empty, holding people was some type of strategy to make money on selling souvenirs.
Very disappointed from OpenTable and the Rainforest
Just wasn’t impressed overall. Pretty pricey for average food. Our waiter did a good job, though!
I am from Indianapolis Indiana. I brought my niece and grandkids to Chicago to visit the American girl store. After visiting the mall and then going to our hotel on a 22nd floor I did not think these kids could be more excited. Then I surprised them by taking them to the Rain Forest Café for dinner. Even though the were exhausted from the excitement of the day, they were re-energized when we walked in! So much to see! So much to experience! From the occasional thunderstorm, ballon artist, animals to the lava mud dessert! They were in awe; and frankly so was I!! It was a fantastic experience! I can’t wait to bring my other grandkids soon!!
This place has gone downhill. No actual rain for the rainforest anymore. Down stairs completely closed off. No fish in the fish tank. Tracey tree was turned off. Service was terrible. Had to ask for silverware.
What happened to this place? My 4 year old was so excited to go. And it was completely boring and at lesser 50% less engaging.
The kids enjoyed the decor so that’s what matters most. We didn’t go to the Rainforest Cafe for a gourmet meal, but that said the food was good. They seemed short staffed, but no major issues. Would go back.
Xmas eve - overpriced food. Good enough service for the kiddo to enjoy
The food was terrible. The kids burgers had buns that were stale and the Mac and cheese was dry. The adult meals weren’t good either and one of us got sick within an hour of eating there. Ambiance was awesome, but the food was disgusting.
We had come to rainforest cafe since we were spending the day in the city and my child has food allergies. We previously had a pretty negative experience here (slow service and smelly bathrooms!) but this time was different. We had a manager, Alex, who provided excellent service and ensured that my son with food allergies had safe options for lunch. My son ended up not liking our initial selection option and we asked Alex if we could have another item- he brought it out in lightening fast time! He was truly caring and made the extra effort to ensure we were taken care of. The bathrooms still needs some help - while they were clean they just smell! The whole restaurant could use a face lift. But for a lunch out with the kids it fit the bill - about as kid-friendly Of a place you can get. And hands down one of the best places to dine at for food allergies. Thank you, Alex, for the outstanding service !
Amazing service as always! A slight premium paid for the ambiance, but we feel that it's worth is once or twice a year for our kids, 3 and 7, who absolutely love the place. The food is good and the cocktails are great, and the latter keep the parents happy! Balloonist always comes by and makes excellent creations for the kids.
The Service was HORRIBLE. the Waiter acted like we were an inconvience, did not explain or offer information on anything, was rushing us. We had family with us from France and when they spoke to him he was rude and was like someone will need to tell me what they are trying to say, and their english is actually very good. They ordered drinks that came in souviener glasses per the menu and when they came no glasses so we asked him and he said well you didn't say you wanted the glass, and i said you didn't ask and it is not an option on the menu to get without the glass. He was like well if you really want them then i guess i can get them but it will cost you another 8.00 per drink. We were so mad we asked for manager who did come right over and apologize and got the glasses for us for free. The whole place is run down and out of repair. they squeezed everyone upstairs and no one downstairs. They had no fish in the aquarium, and the animals barely moved and none made sounds like they are suppose to. There were ALOT of birthday parties and it was very loud. The Food was decent and it came very fast but waiter NEVER came back to check on us, or get more drinks until he brought the bill. Needless to say he did not get a good tip. There was also a woman that came and took our picture infront of the waterfall and said she would be right back with our photo. 1 hour later she finally came back and the picture was so dark yoou could not even tell it was a waterfall and barely could name out our faces. we took our own picture and it was great. I will not be back to this Rainforest.
For the experience, not the food quality. The sampler platter came with cold chicken tender & brown guacamole. The fajitas looked like it was already half eaten when it got to the table ... & also came with brown guacamole
It's a fun place for kids. But the food:value ratio is SO bad. I would not come here again. Don't get me wrong. It's a fun place and it's cute but it's just NOT worth the price for a full meal. Maybe if we go there again it would be to have an appetizer only or a quick dessert before or after one of the much better restaurants around Chicago.
Great for kids!
5 year old birthday dinner. Food was good, environment was fun and good service.
Cold food. Came out late.
It was my first time to go there and I celebrated my birthday with our friends the food is good with it's price, I can tell that they have a good service. When we finished our food, they came and sing a happy birthday song and brought a cupcake for me I wasn't expecting it😁 I loved the place coz I love forest and animals. Nature lover here
