Our server was kind and lovely, the patisseries and sandwiches creative and delicious and the lounge relaxed and quiet. All in all, one of the best teas in Toronto!

We came for their TIFF afternoon tea and it was so great! They put us in this lovely corner, and the service and food was impeccable. The scones were delicious. The salty bits were good as well. The server explained the whole menu to us and you could smell the teas before ordering them

This was a very disappointing experience. I have been to tea at every available option in Toronto, and in comparison to the others, Astor Lounge was below my expectations. Food was very bad, (bread was hard, portions small, and desserts overly sweet), no designated space for tea, (lounge is the same one used for hotel patrons on main lobby floor), ambience was lacking with a lack of music, tables were too small, positioning of teapots were precarious, and there was no non-alcoholic options (or price reduction for non-drinkers). An overall bad experience. Bathrooms were also dirty. Definitely will never return or recommend this one. Although my Toronto standards are low overall for the tea experience, this one was at the very bottom and I was surprised because of the 5 star hotel rating. Not priced accordingly at $95 each pre-tax as the quality was on par with the Old Mill @ $45-50. If you want to pay $95 in Toronto I suggest the Four Seasons or Clock Tower @ the Royal York. Neither of these hold a candle to our friends across the pond, but at least the hotels are clean and aesthetically pleasing, and more effort is put into the "tea" experience.

The service was outstanding and the ambiance was wonderful. My friend had such a great time celebrating her birthday over afternoon tea. We definitely be back again.

We booked this for a friend's birthday. I was embarrassed. The service was awful. They had teams. No one ever asked how we were. We had to wave staff down multiple times for water refills. They would avoid eye contact. We asked for milk with tea three times before we got it. I asked for vegetarian tea for one guest and they acted like it was extremely inconvenient. I was appalled, especially after paying over $500 for tea for 4 people. There were at least 4 servers and maybe 4 tables maximum at peak.

Our tea was great and initial server was very attentive. The ambiance was lovely. After the shift change, service became very slow as the restaurant appeared to be extremely under staffed. Then a guest brought in a very large, drooling dog to the restaurant. The dog was not wearing anything to identify it as a service dog and was certainly not behaved as such. It was gross and disappointing to see the animal allowed in a dining establishment.

I’ve done NINE afternoon teas in Toronto, the majority at high-end downtown hotels, so I have come to expect a certain standard. Given the St Regis has the highest price tag of them all at $98, I was looking forward to something special for my mother’s birthday (which happened to fall on Mother’s Day weekend). I was disappointed. There is no afternoon tea menu on the company website, it’s on OpenTable at time of booking (see attached). We did not get what we signed up for. Instead of all these unique dishes of duck, beef, chicken… we got sandwiches, all 5 of which were on stale bread. At time of reservation, I said we’d be celebrating my mother’s birthday. When the waiter came to introduce the tea, he did not mention anything, so I got up to tell him after he left. He said he was aware, and would address it later on in the service. Not sure if he was really aware or if he was learning it on the spot, but I didn’t like having to remind him. Nevertheless, he did address it later. I called the hotel when I got home to tell them about the OpenTable discrepancy and stale sandwiches, they said they’d look into the “technology”, speak to the chefs, and call me back. It’s been 3+ days, and no call back. On the bright side; the desserts were amazing, and the actual tea was good too, with a nice touch to allow you to smell the teas before you commit to one. The scones were delicious, but the menu said we’d have two different scones; candied orange and midnight blossom. Seems we had two candied orange, (even though waiter said midnight blossom was his favorite and St Regis’ signature flavor). The waiter was nice, but overall service including website, OpenTable, and follow-up was below satisfactory. For $98 (or slightly less), you’ll get a way better experience at ShangriLa or Park Hyatt.
