Delicious food, great variety and balance in flavours! Indulged my friday night there with my good friend
There is a lot to like about Arthur... pricing is amazing value for food and drinks and cosy dining fitout space is delightful (except for bugs) . But it’s not memorable, and hence a let down.
After reading all the media hype our expectations were high for a great seasonal dining experience with informed chefs bringing exciting dishes to table. After all, that’s the best thing about chefs coming to your table, getting the sense of their excitement for the created dishes. But..... other than main host (who was AMAZING and engaging on welcome and drinks!) the dishes were perfunctorily brought to table, delivery and descriptions that added nothing to that already described on menu (because the description is a list of ingredients, as is the plate... no surprises, no real high and lows... just great produce) and more just “put on table and walk away” kind of service from chefs.
After experiences like Peter Gunn at IDES, there needs to be more thought to who is bringing out food, to be enthused about the dishes and having thought to creating a dining environment (too many bugs all along wall and windows and in the air above table whilst eating) .... Being able to see plating and chefs from every point in restaurant, it felt more like a function centre plating where most dishes seems like assembly only. the tartare and fish dish were fantastic. The rest.... plain. Sauces too simple and dare I say it... bland. Not enough punch to make things memorable. Yes, ingredients AMAZING quality. Not enough of a great overall experience to rate the restaurant as a place you must go to. Nor is it so delicious that you would go back to try again.
Delicious food and great service. Lovely local restaurant!
A wonderful night out for two. The imaginative food offerings were only matched by the attentive and knowledgable service from all the staff. This is a sophisticated restaurant but without the stuffy atmosphere that can ensure. Great evening.
We left the restaurant hungry so we had a pizza. We shuffled out the restaurant because the next sitting was early. I can't begin to understand why Arthur has got good reviews.
Great tasting menu and fantastic value at $70pp. Relaxed service with courses served comfortably withing 2 hrs. Fun to see the dishes being served up in full view, everything fresh and a creative menu. Highly recommend for date / occasion with a relaxed ambiance.
The evening started well but got progressively worse...the dishes all started the taste the same - all heavily coated in a type of mayonnaise sauce which just killed the flavor of everything else. We requested(gave 4 days notice ) an alternative to the pork loin as we don’t eat pork. What arrived was this tasteless dish of egg plant and mushrooms- no flavor, no seasoning, no love. Just a plate of cardboard- it was actually shameful- I felt embarrassed for the chef.
To top it all it was incredibly noisy - you could barely have a conversation with the person next to you - mostly due to one large rowdy group table.
Overall incredibly disappointing- I was dining with an overseas guest - and I felt ashamed at the quality of the meal.
No bad courses, some standout courses. But best value set menu in Sydney.
Really enjoyed the food, not too heavy.
Friendly service, near door good spot. Cool breeze and not noisy. Already recommended to friends
All I can say is excellent food and wine and service
We all left very happy and contented
Took the Mrs out to Arthur for our wedding anniversary and it was perfect. The location, the atmosphere, the decor but most importantly the food all made for a memorable occasion. We loved the Arthur experience. The chefs have created a fantastic set menu, so once your there, order a bottle of wine, relax and enjoy one another's company. The rest is all handled for you. Can't wait to be back.
Delicious, creatively thoughtful food. Vegetables were a standout and so was the pork loin. Knockout dish was the rhubarb with honey cream and lavender granita. Who would have thought that a smidgeon of lavender flavoured granita could have such a impact? The restraint in that dish showed real understanding of flavour and balance. Altogether a beautiful meal that my daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed from the first to last mouthful.
One of our most enjoyable dining experiences in Sydney. Well done to all the team for making it such a good experience. Keep up the good work guys
We went to Arthur for our anniversary celebration as it came with exceptional reviews. It could be that we had our expectations set quite high and therefore there was a very slight let-down. Food was good in general, although some dishes had one flavour that over-powered the rest (too sour or too salty). Desserts were fantastic. Noisy environment and seating is quite tight (just like any other restaurants in Surry Hills). Service is beyond excellent.
Best restaurant to open up for a while. Every dish got better & better. Great value would highly recommend!
It was our second visit in 3 weeks and the food & service was just as great as it was the first time. Outstanding value for money, amazing food, great Australian wine list. We will be back as soon as we can!!
The meal was so delicious, great value and the staff were very friendly. We were lucky enough to have the best seat in the house so we could watch the food being prepared. Very intimate meal, it was fantastic, can't recommend it enough.
Loved the 10 + course tasting menu. Most creative, generous and delicious. Will be back soon!
Arthur is incredible. The team constantly nail their menu, constantly innovating and respecting the core ingredients. It’s a REAL celebration of Australian food and wine. Worth it.
The team at Arthur make you feel welcomed from the moment you step in the door. Simple and elegant food served alongside a perfectly composed local drinks list, Arthur does not disappoint.
We dined at Arthur on a Friday evening and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food is outstanding, great wine list and the staff were lovely. Looking forward to our next visit.
Wonderful experience! We had a group of 5 with a few dietary requirements, the team at Arthur took care of it seamlessly. The food was fantastic. Will certainly be going back.
What a joy it was to dine at Arthur’s. The set menu presented was both creative and delcicious. One dish that stood out for me was the kangaroo tarte and it having no gaminess. Definitely check this place out!
We went for a dinner date as a couple and we were impressed how amazing was the food and service. The only letdown was we found it very noisy even the sound proof sponge hidden inside the tables doesn't help at all. We basically spend mostly screaming at each other whole night , just to be able hear each other. Not a romantic thing to do. Put it that way!! Apart from that it should be a neighbourhood gem with easily affordable degustation menu, worth every penny!!
Some of the tastiest, best value cooking in town at the moment. Great concept and executed with finesse. Will be returning without a doubt.
It was our anniversary and i was sick too unfortunately and even if I've put that in the notes nothing it has been done and the spot wasn't what we expected but a part of that....delicious food, great tasting menu, especially for my vegetarian option and very nice and cozy environment.
Everything was exceptional. The food was just beyond beautiful, the service and venue are perfect.
Well done guys, this place is an absolute winner. See you again very very soon!
Tasting menu was just amazing and incredibly good value. We'll be back!
Fantastic food and understated service resulted in a lovely night. Only downside was the seating was quite tight which I guess is to be expected in Surry Hills!
Service very professional and welcome, wonderful atmosphere and amazing food. Great restaurant
This place needs to charge more for the amazing food.
The food here was sensational - an absolute flavour explosion. Sourdough bread is worth the pick up
Fabulous experience...... can’t wait to go again which will be soon as they change the set tasting menu every 2 weeks...... yippee! Another great addition to Surry Hills
The food was really good, and if we had one gripe it was that some dishes were overly salted. It was very cozy and intimate, but you'd have to talk really loud to hear so you can hear each other. Otherwise, service was great and it was quite a show watching chefs work inthe very open kitchen
Great food and service. The venue is loud so may not be the best place for quiet conversation.
The food is fantastic and really good value for money! Service was great, attentive without being intrusive and overall the restaurant has a really warm welcoming atmosphere. Definitely would go again!
Really enjoyed the eleven course dinner. Out of the eleven, nine were complete winners and the other two quite good, so a high average overall. $70 per head is good value but, if you like cocktails and wine like we do, the bill can get up there a little. Lovely service and really nice people. Overall a great neighbourhood restaurant serving excellent food.
Fantastic food and service - what a welcome new addition to the neighbourhood! The great range of flavours through the 11 dishes was amazing - the tartare of kangaroo was outstanding! Looking forward to their next monthly menu change to go back again...well done to all the team at Arthur’s
Outstanding food, service and just a really lovely night out with my husband. My only suggestion would be to turn on the AC. By the end of the evening it was quite stuffy inside.
