The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. For decades following, The Lex, as it’s called by locals and enthusiasts alike, was the place to be seen; business dealings, cocktail hours, and milestone celebrations were a regular occurrence for St. Paul socialites.

Hola Arepa is a tropical paradise in the heart of South Minneapolis serving Venezuelan-style stuffed arepas and Latin American-influenced small plates and a mostly gluten free menu. Chef Christina Nguyen and her partner, Birk Grudem started Hola Arepa as a food truck in 2011 and opened this brick and mortar location three years later. They wanted to bring home the flavors and vibes they experienced on their travels through small beach towns in South America, Central America and Mexico. Complementing the vibrant flavors of the food are tropical craft cocktails including slushies and the best margarita in the city. Welcome to the most unique neighborhood specialty coffee shop and Cat Lounge in Minnesota. Outstanding coffee, local snacks, pastries, and house-made sandwiches can be enjoyed in our Cat Lounge, our coffee shop area, or our gorgeous back patio. Our Cat Lounge is a cozy, award-winning sanctuary filled with well-worn upholstered chairs, a jazzy mid-century vibe, a curated wall of books and games, and a welcoming fireplace. Our cats roam, nap, and play in the Lounge (sorry, they are not up for adoption).     Tyler was our waiter and sommelier and was superb. He let us talk as we needed to and did not pressure us. When it was time he offered great recommendations on food choices and portions, allowing business associates to feel comfortable ordering a delicious meal family style.
