We just came back from another stay at Mas Olas and another dinner at Botanica. It was once again a great experience. Botanica is the more "casual" of the two restaurants at Mas Olas, but every bit as much of a special experience. (separately I'll share thoughts on Kahal, which we also dined at) We like the pizza a lot and meant to order it with a salad, but once again when we explored the menu, there were new dishes that we had to try. The roasted cauliflower salad was really delicious and well presented with rainbow roasted cauliflower in a cauliflower puree. And the suckling pig was something that we weren't going to find on another menu, so we had to try it. It was moist, tender and flavorful. The only problem was that we couldn't take the leftovers home to make sandwiches the next day! We would love to have done that. If you go, take the time to talk with Chef Sandro to understand where he gets his ideas for new dishes and the background on some of the ingredients he uses. It's part of the experience and worth going beyond the typical "how are you enjoying it?" discussions. We went early in the season so there was a mix of veterans as well as the new staff being brought up to speed. What's important to note is that there is a conscious attempt to introduce the caring culture of the veteran staff into the new staff. Everyone wants to make you feel that you are part of their broader family. When you go on vacation, you want to feel that you've had a new and special experience. And Botanica is a great part of the Mas Olas getaway experience. It's a way to explore new cuisine and dishes in a friendly environment that makes you feel at home..
