Food was good, but staff (one waitress and one chef) were overstretched, hence service was slow and hurried, once it arrived. Venue was too small to accommodate the 6 people in our party. Seating at the benches is very cramped. There were 2 dustbins near our tables. Can't really recommend this when there are other Ghanaian restaurants in town.
The food was very good and the staff very friendly . However we had specifically gone for the brunch and the Boody Mary's and maybe the unlimited drinks package , all which is advertised on the website menu for the weekend . None of this was available and the staff seemed unaware that some of this was ever on the menu , so I felt a little let down please don't advertise what you don't have .
My parents were visiting for the week so I took them to Zoe's kitchen and they loved it! They thought the food was excellent. The service was quite slow that day but they compensated us with some complimentary food.
If you are looking for a quite place this might not be for you, it's within Pop Brixton and on a normal weekday they had a DJ playing electronic music quite loudly. It didn't bother us but it might bother some people.
All in all, definitely can't recommend this cute casual place enough. If you go don't forget to order the chicken and the lamb, they are great!
Incredibly disappointing! Was really looking forward to trying here but service was slow / poor, so much so that I saw 3 groups of people sit down and then leave because no one had served them. Food was also v disappointing (we left a lot of it) and they'd also run out of the ingredients to make cocktails. I can't really think of anything good other than the whole experience has given my partner (who is ghanaian) and I loads to laugh about as it was like the Fawlty Towers of dining experiences!!! The restaurant has a great website and really nice story on it - it is just a real shame that it did not live up to this any way.
As usual, staff is fabulous. Friendly, efficient, with great banter. We ordered dessert first (the puff puff) and then worked our way round the menu. Jollof rice (Nice and spicy), fried chicken (best in London), Kelewele (plantains could have. Even a little more ripe), tilapia (perfect), and banoffee pie. It was faultless.
Despite it being a tiny space, we didn't feel cramped, at all.
At about £60 for three , this was excellent value for money.
To be honest, a bit of a dis-organised in terms of service and delivery of food. However, these guys are working in a container and it was beginning to get busy. The light soup with chicken and fufu was sublime, reminded me of home cooked food. The fried Okra was also spot on. Good on the Gulder and Star beer, but needed a Club to complete the experience and maybe some Akpeteshie at the end of the meal! A great experience though, the guy serving, although rushed was very friendly. The location is quite different to anything that I've experienced in the UK before - bustling, but enough personal space for an ageing 30 something to feel comfortable.
Visited Zoe's Ghana Kitchen on Wednesday evening with a friend. We were greeted kindly by our server and sat and ordered. The food came out quick with starters so we could enjoy both the main and starters at the same time.
We were the only ones there at first which may have been to the cold, it's on the upper balcony of the Brixton pop-up so understandably it's a little bit more chilly than restaurants on the ground floor - though you are given blankets!
However, that didn't dampen the mood. Our server(sorry didn't catch your name) was friendly and chatty which was excellent.
The food was good, we ordered the okra fries and plantain to start with which were tasty, and then I ordered the red red bean stew which was also just as good and filling, which may be surprising as the plate seems small! We had Nigerian Coke which if you're unfamiliar has a sweeter taste and is less carbonated which makes it more easier to drink in my opinion!
Anyway the night was enjoyable and we'll probably be back - maybe when it was a little warmer but I recommend if you're looking to expand your tastebuds!
Great little place. Annoyingly they hadn't got my booking, but it wasn't too busy. Very small, but comfortable, quaint and warm. Food was delicious although felt a little overpriced. Service was friendly, but rather quiet - for such a small space they could be a lot more engaging given you're pretty much sitting on top of the kitchen. But overall a lovely little experience that I'd be happy to return to.
Friendly and welcoming staff with delicious and inventive food. I've never tasted food from Ghana before so this was a first. It seemed very authentic in both ingredients and how it was served - we'll just remember to not go so heavy on the plantain chips next time!
I enjoyed This restaurant for the second time. However service is a bit erratic and not friendly. I think they need more than 1 waiter for a busy Thursday night. Otherwise a gem as only establishment in Btoxton pop where you can book & sit down in peace. On presenting Taste card, food portions little bit smaller than usual? Is not a good thing anyhow.
Where to start with??
* Booked a table in advance for 6 persons, but being seated at a table for clearly 4 persons. Surprisingly party of 5 people next to us had 2 adjacent tables! Managed to squeeze us in though, but being disrupted annoyingly by people passing by due to very little space
* Some drinks, starters and mains were already finished, while it was just 8:30pm
* Understaffed on a Saturday evening: 2 people taking orders, 2 people in the kitchen. Should be sufficient, however, the many takeaway orders definitely slow down the speed for those ordering on site. Cancelled our second order after waiting for more than 30 minutes, apparently the kitchen didn't manage to start with our order yet!
* Food is decent if you like tapas style eating, but definitely overpriced, especially when you have a big appetite
* Staff is friendly and apologetic, but I felt sorry for the girl who worked on her own from 10pm while it was still rush hour
* Fix the logistic issues I would say. Rooting your concept, but your ambitions don't match with actual implementation in the real world!
The boxpark setting was chilled and lovely, good music, excellent vibes. Unfortunately, we had super high expectations after reading great reviews about the place and were a bit on the disappointed side. The food was decent, but very over priced for what t was tbh. We enjoyed the fried chicken but the prawns were a bit of a let down. Pleasant enough overall though, but does not live up to the hype
Me and my partner went here on a date. It is a lovely small restaurant in the Brixton Pop market with 2 small tables inside and a couple more outside. For mains we had beef kebab and the tilapia, which were both very tasty and well cooked. We also had plantain chips, okra chips, avocado side and jollof rice. Everything we had was delicious with a nice spice to it. The house wine was also nice for a good price. We had a taste card so got 2 for 1 on the dishes which made it an absolute bargain, but it would still be good value without one. As there are only 2 tables inside it's worth booking if the weather isn't great... 2 people per table is comfortable, 4 would be a squeeze.
I was really looking forward to dining here as the reviews were good and the menu looked tasty. The dishes were enticing but ultimately lacked any depth of flavour. I finished my plates out of sheer hunger, rather than enjoyment. Also disappointing was the absence of the goat meat dish.
I've been looking forward to trying ZGK for ages now so was glad to get round to it. Lucky that we pre-booked a table as it was really busy on a Friday night. That also meant that service was a bit slow and that our food took ages to come, but with only 2 people in a tiny kitchen they were doing a great job. The food itself was really tasty although quite pricey. You are recommended to get 2-3 plates per person (at £5.50-8 a plate) and then there's sides. We got 1 main plate each & 3 sides/starters between 2 and that was definitely enough. The bean stew was lovely and the okra fries are maybe the best thing ever!
