Lovely staff, cosy environment and tasty food. Would highly recommend.
I love the Sun Inn, especially the Sunday lunch menu which is exceptional. The burgers are brilliant too as are the home made pies. In fact most things on the menu are excellent. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
A really good gastro / country pub. Maybe not for you if you like McDonalds
Fantastic food in a beautiful village. My only issue is that it is in desperate need for some TLC. The benches were falling apart and everything needed a repaint/refresh. I hope that this can get sorted because I love this place.
First rate food and service. Covid safe and aware of regulations.
All good, other than the default 10% service charge.
Very nice food hot and presented nice price wuss a little on the expensive for a village pub price more suited to a up market place in city
Don’t like the 10% service charge added to bill waiter said we could have it removed if won’t to
Try the bread starter laughed a lot when it arrived. Pizzas lovely amazing chips. I tried the spatchcock chicken with red pepper puree very very nice.
A lovely meal, super service and a good atmosphere. Thank you.
Accidentally put noise level as energetic when it was actually lovely and quiet!
Lovely steak pie, proper brown chips.
Birthday lunch for a friend and myself plus two other friends.
Even though I'd not ordered a dessert, waitress said, 'yes, you are, it's on us'. A lovely touch, I'd put 'birthday' on the booking form but that's the sort of thing Ashley and his team would do!
Will look forward to our next visit...
We have cycled here a few times and always has great service and left happy. Fully recommend as a great place to visit, relax and enjoy
It was very average for the price . Also the vegetable with the Sunday roast was courgette with not a lot else .
We were heading for York and looking at the last minute for somewhere to eat. We didn’t know this village or restaurant existed but we will certainly call again. The setting was perfect, the food was delicious and the staff were lovely.
Great food and great service.
Lovely pub to sit outside and enjoy relaxing in a village location
Beautiful place and the food is fantastic we will be returning
Watched the euro final and had food fabulous evening
Amazing Sunday lunch, we were very impressed with the quality of food, great service and the charm and character of the setting. Will definitely be returning.
We are regular customers here and always have an excellent meal. Cannot fault it!
we had an outdoor table in the marquee which was airy with well-distanced tables. Food-wise, the spiced lamb pies were excellent, tasty and plentiful without being over-facing. The stone bass steak dish however had to be sent back: totally bland in taste and unappealing visually with an odd combination of elements: fish, lentils and black pudding bites. Not recommended. The staff was first rate at bringing the required replacement, another lamb pie. This is unusual in this restaurant which we have visited several times in the past and always have been delighted with what's on offer.
Great food and service. Lots of menu options. We’ve been coming to the Sun Inn for many years and it never disappoints. Thank you.
Fabulous food and great selection of drinks available.
Fantastic food, beautiful location and friendly service
Delicious meal - spoilt for choice great value
Thank you - felt v save and welcome
We ate on a Friday lunch and were looked after by friendly staff who were very accommodating.
The menu is extensive and we were spoilt for choice. The food came in a timely manner and was presented well and was very nice.
Having local beers on in the pub was great too.
I would recommend giving this place a try.
Terribly disappointing experience at a place we used to enjoy visiting so much. The service level was simply dreadful from no greeting to aggressively applied covid restrictions, repeat requests for everything, ordered specials to be told none available. At table service equally abysmal, mussels arrived with an upside down dish on top, no one removed it, no offer of bread, "do you want more cutlery?" after our starters "well yes that would be preferable", dirty glasses piling up on our table no-one interested in removing them, no mention of a wine list at any point. I could go on and on but that she suffice. I've simply never known anything like it and the guests we took were equally unimpressed. Emailed this morning but have had no reply so my thoughts can go public. Avoid.
This was a lovely place to eat. Food was good and staff were lovely.
As usual a lovely Sunday lunch, a few more roast potatoes would have been welcome.
Very interesting menu, cooked to perfection and delivered by staff who seemed to really understand and believe in excellent customer service
Wonderful food and great service.
As always the service was excellent and friendly. The atmosphere in the restaurant - just ‘pubby’ enough to not be too formal, lively enough to be fun but not too noisy. Lighting is just right - nice and subdued. Sad to see the duck dish I had last time was not on the menu! I had the poussin instead, which did come with a delicious tangy sauce. Thank you!
Very nice meal. Great menu choice and everything available. Food was served very quickly and lovely presentation. No complaints
Great drinks and a lovely menu but the food was a underwhelming. I had steak which was difficult to cut and a bit dry.
Nice but not stunning.
A disappointing experience, the food was not a patch on what it was when we visited 2 years ago. Expensive for a very mediocre meal. The service was very slow although the restaurent did not appear to be very busy.
The menu card informed us that a 10% "discretionary" service charge " would be added to the bill, however when our bill arrived there was no apparent facility to remove this charge so we assumed this was compulsory not discretionary. Further visits to this place are unlikely.
Our meal was excellent. We just felt it was a little noisy.
Good atmosphere (but a bit noisy in the large dining room!), very interesting menu and lovely food. Up to the normal high standards.
Great food and service. Excellent covid measures in place.
We visited with our two children and staff were so lovely to them.
The best chips I've ever tasted!
Perfect end to a week’s holiday in Yorkshire. The food, service, surroundings and welcome were superb. We’ll be back.
Food was tasty, service was excellent. Apologies for not leaving tip, but we tried when paying and was told it was included - found out on getting home that this was wrong. Atmosphere was great. Felt safe.
Friendly, attentive staff. Fabulously tasty pizzas and garlic bread, chosen from an extensive menu. Only had room for ice cream, beautifully presented, and coffee. Great value. Lovely decor, quiet ambience, just what was needed for a chat with friends. Highly recommended.
Been here many times over the years and though expensive you could always bank on it being excellent quality food, but seems to have been a significant drop off. £15 for a roast is fair enough but at that price it has to be top notch. It's a shame but I don't imagine we'll be rushing back.
