Yauatcha Soho, located in the heart of vibrant London, is an all-day dim sum teahouse offering a wide selection of modern authentic dim sum alongside European patisserie and an extensive range of teas, wine and cocktails. The design of the restaurant is a modern interpretation of the old Chinese teahouse. At the same time, the lighting and seating embodies the atmosphere of a vibrant ‘chatter shop’, similar to the traditional Hong Kong dim sum restaurants. The restaurant offers Cantonese dishes with a modern influence, with an extensive range of steamed, baked, grilled and fried dim sum such as Yauatcha’s signature dishes of Scallop shui mai and Venison puffs.

Table booked for 8.30. Didn't get seated till 9pm. Manager did apologise though. Food was just OK. Definitely not any better or worse than a standard China Town dim sum restaurant but much more expensive. Ambience is nothing to write home about. Can't think of much to say about it. Just an OK experience. I wouldn't go again unless someone else was paying and they insisted on going to this restaurant. Honestly save yourself the money and time... Go elsewhere

Dreadful service from the minute we entered to the minute we left - arrived on time and parked in the bar with no information about delay - I had to ask 3 times. Server who barely spoke English. Orders that didn’t come for over an hour and had to be chased. This verged in self service for Michelin star prices and an entirely reactive and unapologetic management!
Never go in the evening would be my advice! If you want to try the dim sum (which is good) go during the day when it’s quieter and the Ervin e is at least average!

Hi
My review has two parts
Part 1. Relates to food and service which was fantastic
Part 2. Related to open table booking. I received an email 30mins before my reservation saying booking has been cancelled!! My battery was out so I couldn’t see the email and hence I arrived at the restaurant and it took 20min for them to find me a table. So why and who cancelled my reservation in first place v

Yauatcha seems to be a victim of its previous success. Lots of groups which makes it very rowdy. Also list wines of a certain year on the menu, but then bring younger versions of without notifying the customer. I don’t think that is right. Food was generated very good, and the service (apart from the above part) was good. I would not recommend this place unless you were a big group of friends or work colleagues as that seems to be what they are attracting now.

I was very excited to try this place initially. The vegetarian and vegan dim sum options were certainly tasty and unique (being vegan for a while now, I’ve struggled to find good dim sum!), but the service was a bit wanting and the decor was a bit dated/tired (for those in Canada, it was comparable to a Moxy’s or Earl’s-type place). As well, I don’t know if the meat/seafood options would be as unique/special to justify the cost (vs. Any decent place in china town). Overall, the restaurant and experience didn’t warrant the relatively steep price (e.g., 4£ for a small bowl of plain steamed rice), nor its reputation as a very high end place. Some of the reviews I read online criticized the same points, and, in hindsight, I agree.

Went to Yauatcha Soho for a pre theatre meal at 5:00pm on a Tuesday night. Chose the Signature Set Menu. At this time of day, the restaurant wasn’t at all busy and we were served very quickly. The Dim Sum was excellent, and it was nice having deep fried Dim Sum as well as steamed. I’m not a huge fan of soup but have to say that the mixed fish dumpling soup was delicious. The crispy duck was very tasty. If I had any comment it would be that the pancakes could have been a bit larger for the amount of duck we had. By this time, we were already starting to feel satisfied, but it was then time for the main course - Pak Choi, Chilli Squid and sticky rice. Again, all was very tasty, although the Chilli Squid was crying out for some kind of sauce as it was a very dry dish. My wife and I by now were starting to struggle to finish everything and did have to leave a small amount. I then reminded my wife that there was still dessert to come! Fortunately, when it arrived, it was very light and delicious. There were 2 desserts to share, one mango based and the other plum based. I do have to say that they were probably the nicest desserts I’ve ever had in a Chinese restaurant and finished the meal off perfectly.
All of this took about an hour and 15 minutes, so was perfect for a pre theatre meal as we weren’t having to worry about if we would make it to the theatre in time. By the time we left, the restaurant was starting to fill up and there was a queue of people now waiting to be seated.
The meal wasn’t cheap, but I was more than happy paying that amount for the quality of food.
Would we go back again? Most definitely!

Ban Ban Oriental is much better quality than this posh Chinese dim sum. Service was not so nice at all. very disappointed and ashamed for taking my clients.

This was a deeply disappointing experience. We had gone there for the puddings ,which are superb, but by the time we finished our dinner, there were no puddings left on display. I enquired worried they might have run out, but was told they still had plenty available . We were eventually given the menu and made our choice, only to be told a few minutes later that there were no puddings left at all . We were offered some macaroons to take away but only after I complained to the manager.

Firstly and most importantly the food was delicious. Every dish was superb. However the overall experience was not great. Our 8.15 table was ready at 8.50. No apology or complimentary drink. Seriously uncomfortable chairs/table with zero leg room. Plus we had 2 nut allergy people out of the 4 of us and they not only recommended a main course with nuts (obviously we declared the allergies) but they gave a birthday treat macaroon to one of the afflicted. I enjoyed it! Despite the delicious food I would not rush back.

We have been to Yauatcha before both in the City and Soho. This time we found the service pretty poor, the table next to us complained. We probably should have done. The dim sum was good but not as good as last time and probably not worth the £75 a head cost. The worst part was that my wife and I were both violently ill after returning home, about 2 hours after dinner. We emailed the restaurant about this but did not even receive a reply. On this basis of the last point in particular I will not be returning. Nor would I recommend Yauatcha.

The food was delicious and staff worked hard but the sound level was insane to begin with, and then music was turned up high so much that I asked them to turn it down. Which they did do. Although I think other staff turned it up again.

The dim sum was fabulous.

Food was delicious. However, a curiosity remains why disposable chopsticks were used at this rather high-end restaurant. In addition, we were charged for a macaroon for as part of a birthday celebration which was not requested for - would have been more appropriate if they had checked with us beforehand, since they were going to charge us for it.

The main problem with Yauacha Soho nowadays is the lottery of whether you sit upstairs or downstairs. These are two very different experiences: upstairs is much less of a special atmosphere, and for some occasions you would only want to be downstairs. But when you are booking, there seems to be no way to establish whether you are getting a table upstairs or downstairs. This is an important issue that needs to be sorted out.
My 3 stars for service is because of this issue - on this occasion I'd particularly wanted to be downstairs but was obliged to sit upstairs.

The food was amazing, however the space was very noisy (maybe because we were near the kitchen) and finally we were invited to leave the table because our time was finished and we couldn’t taste the dessert.

A very stylish looking restaurant as you walk in. We had to wait in the Very crowded bar for about 15 minutes for our booked table. It was so crowded that despite, trying we weren’t able to get a drink.

Our table was downstairs in the basement which isn’t as nice as upstairs and it’s very crowded - tables are close together.

Our waiter was very helpful in explaining & suggesting things and actually everything he suggested was really excellent. For example - Prawn and bean curd cheung fun is just amazing.

Surprisingly good portion sizes, So I think we probably over ordered as couldn’t finish it all. Every single dish was excellent. Amongst the best Chinese we’ve eaten. Bill came to around £180 fir 4 of us which included a bottle of wine. One annoying thing is that the waiter that brings food can’t put it on your table and has to wait for another member of staff to put it down, and as a result it feels like service isn’t as smooth as it could be. But despite this will definitely go back. But despite this will definitely go back. As the food is so good
