For a restaurant that had a Michelin star and is still recommended by the Michelin guide for New York, I found that the food here was mediocre and did not provide an exceptional experience to me. It was simple, under-seasoned for most of the plates, and definitely didn’t “wow” me. I expected far better in terms of flavour and uniqueness. For the majority of the time I was there, I kept thinking that I could have went to any other restaurant that served skewers and they probably would have tasted better. Definitely underwhelming.

The service on the other hand was excellent. The servers explained how the menu worked, provided us with warm towels before and after the meal to clean our hands, constantly filled up our cups of water every few minutes, and made sure that we always had a clean plate in front of us.

Would I recommend this place to a friend? Probably not. For the prices that the restaurant charged and the quality and taste of the food that I was served, I think your money would be better spent elsewhere.

This place is sublime whether or not you have the special skewers.
Be daring, have them!

I felt the maître d' was not very attentive. She was too busy to say thank you/good night even when we we were leaving until we were out the door. Getting hot sake took very long. I understand you have to heat it but it was unusually long, all 3 times we asked for it. The food was great though and the atmosphere was friendly & energetic without being over powering. Hopefully your experience is better than mine.

A lot of fuss and expense for what is ultimately Asian street food.

Not as good as I hoped for a Michelin place. Appetizers were unimpressive (e.g. squeaky beans in my kakuni). Moreover, the yakitori itself had issues, which was quite disappointing, such some pieces not being seasoned through and tasting like unflavored chicken in the inside. The portions were very small and I left feeling hungry, despite ordering the omakase. Was also not pleased by the additional surcharges along the way such as for the egg yolk sauce and for the creme brulee dessert.

Food was excellent - very tasty. Amazing service and in terms of ambiance i felt like I was right in Tokyo. Perfect for date night, out with friends or family. Our 10 year old son loved it and wanted to come back next night.

Great food. Unfortunately they ran out of some things early which is not being prepared. Waiter was difficult to understand and doesn't know his yakitori

Food was fine, but not worth the cost. Most of the skewers in the Omakase set menu were chicken. Would have ordered a la carte if we’d had known.

Menu was misleading and the server offered no explanation as to how to order a meal that included other than chicken skewers. One of our party did not eat chicken and he was not helped to put a meal together. No variation from set offerings were possible.

Great to experience the Omakase for the first visit but more value in choosing the ala-carte options for subsequent visits.

First time visitor here. Loved the interaction with the chef and staff. The food was awesome, but more important, just letting the situation unfold and putting yourself in the hands of the staff. Will definitely go back more than once!

Have wanted to try Yakitori Tori Shin for a while but it's just not my cup of tea. While we had a 9pm reservation, we had to wait a good 20 minutes to be seated. Once seated, there was a very loud and drunk group seated right next to us who basically ruined our meal. Yakitori options are quite limited, and our server would drop off items without a word, so often we weren't 100% sure what was what -- I mean I can obviously tell the difference between a tsukune chicken meatball skewer and mushrooms, but two different types of chicken thigh? Would have been nice if she just took one second to say what she was putting on the table. Wasn't the best experience... will stick to my other yakitori go-tos from now on but happy to cross this off the list.

We had a wonderful time at the delicious, civilized, thoughtful Torishin restaurant this past Monday night. The food and service were impeccable.

We happen to love chicken. If you don't like chicken, this is not the place for you.

From the moment you walk in till the minute you leave it is quite an experience. Whether it was being greeted as you walk in the room by all the cooking chefs to the precision that all the food and service has to offer. The entire restaurant is ran so well . The food seems simple but was very complex and you were able to talk with the chef preparing it for you . I highly recommend this place. It is an incredible experience.

Omakase meal was a great way to try new flavors, however, as other diners mentioned, chicken is a little one dimensional and some of the flavors were unbalanced (too salty, too sweet).

Chef Urashi is a delight and a master, bringing joy to his work and his food. Highly recommend and we will return again and again. Best yakitori in NYC and reminds us very much of Tokyo yakitori.

I lived and worked in Japan for many years and I still go back often. This is first-rate yakitori. Pricing is on the high side, which is unfortunate because I’d love to go more often.

Really was an impressive dinner. Omakase was varied, accommodating (my gf did not want organ based yakitori), and delicious. All food was hot, had depth of flavor, and was valuable for the price. Overall, we'll be back for sure and encourage you to come and try the omakase.

I've been to Yakitori Tori Shin in its old place. This is my first time in this new (to me) location. We were seated at the Mezzanine level, which was a surprisingly nice and quiet with a strong hideaway feel. The service was exquisite, and food was as excellent as I remembered. Good ingredients and special charcoal grilling had added a nice flavor. The only disappoint was that no raw egg yolk on top of Oyako-don as I remembered. The server told me that the egg was already mixed but I remembered my big and happy surprise when I found a big orange-ish raw egg yolk on top when I first ate Torishin's Oyako-don, and I expected it. I can certainly understand without obvious raw egg yolk on the top of the dish considering the season (late summer still) and a concern for raw eggs in the US... This is not a complaint but rather my reminiscence of the past. Of course, the taste was satisfactory and I'd recommend Torishin to anyone on any occasions! Next time I'd love to try their Select Counter.

Yakitori Tori Shin was a delight. The service was friendly and helpful and appropriately inobtrusive. The yakitori was delicious and far different from what one finds in other Japanese restaurants. I highly recommend Yakitori Tori Shin.
