Vine Street Cafe
Chef/Owners Lisa & Terry Harwood opened Vine Street Cafe in 2003. Located on South Ferry Road, just 1.5 miles from the South Ferry. Chef Terry works with area farmers, fishermen & vineyards and features their natural bounty on his seasonal menus. We make everything in house and Lisa's desserts, ice creams and fruit crisps are no exception. Recently, we opened a small market behind the restaurant. This is where you pick up take-out orders while stocking your home pantry. Specialty catering is available along with ready fresh meals such as meatballs, chicken salad, bread, smoked ribs, BBQ Sauce and a selection of artisan pastas. Reservations are highly recommended year round.

Disappointed that this place went downhill. Food was not great, prices were super high, service was slow and inattentive.
Always a favorite, Vine Street has made the experience even better during COVID with spaced outdoor dining - and they welcome us with our dog , which some places that are seating mostly outside now aren't offering. We love Monday night bouillabaisse; other highlights are the calamari and frisee salad, burrata and tomatoes, scallops with succotash, pasta bolognese and divine duck. Nice wine by the glass list and my favorite dessert, a not-too-heavy strawberry shortcake. The staff are so polite and helpful, and obviously taking great care to make diners feel safe and protected.
Vine St. Cafe has been open and running for 17 years which is a true feat out East, and for good reason. The food is terrific, the service is great, and the vibe is chill. We couldn’t have asked for a better evening out!
Taking covid precautions very seriously. Comfortable social distancing
Consistently good food, and they are handling the volume and Covid-19 constraints really well. I feel comfortable there, the servers are great, and the food, as always, is very good. The outdoor space is wonderful.
It felt like a bistro in France or Italy . Best restaurant in the Hamptons
We have eaten at Vine Street every summer for many years. Everything is always perfect. This year they did a particularly good job with distancing, and other virus related precautions. The food is delicious and the ambiance is charming. Our server, Sadie, was lovely. Can’t wait to return. I only wish they still sold the mixed nuts!
Was disappointed that I couldn’t take drinks to go when all the other restaurants are allowed to do it by the NYS LIQ authority . They should invest in to go cups , would increase there sales
Food and service outstanding-especially in light of the health emergency. The new outdoor area is lovely and our waiter made us feel right at home in spite of the precautions that were necessarily in place for our safety. The food was outstanding as always. So glad that my son finally got to have your duck, which is one of my favorites.
Food was fantastic...service was superb! Would recommend to anyone
Best restaurant on the island
Everything from service (thank you, Sadie) to food was outstanding. Great job, overall, during these very trying times.
A go to! Always great food and a great ambiance. Worth the drive.
The restaurant didn’t honor our outdoor reservation which was completely unacceptable during these times where people are concerned about their health during the pandemic.
Awesome Hamptons restaurant! Consistently one of the best. Everything is top-notch and charming. Eating outdoors was just the ticket after the long COVID lock down. It's pricey - that's for sure. But you definitely get a fabulous meal.
Awesome food and service as usual
Great outdoor dining experience. Alejandra is a great server. I felt safe.
Food was excellent ambience was excellent ,but the service needs some attention.
Had been told about how great Vine Street is by multiple friends and I was extremely disappointed. The food was fine, but the service was lackluster was quite poor and I am not going back soon.
What a great job of making the most of the terrible situation that we are all experiencing. They extended their existing outdoor patio and put up string lights and created a lovely place to dine al fresco. The tables are spaced well apart and they are taking proper precautions. And the food is always excellent. Don't miss the calamari salad, pasta bolognese, the salmon and fries. Thank you Vine Street Cafe, for giving us a place to get out to....we've all done way too many loads of dishes over the past several months!
always great! Vine Street never fails to satisfy the taste buds!!!
Lovely food in courtyard setting. Lots of space for social distancing between tables. Our waitress was really great and so interesting to talk to. So friendly.
Food was really delicious. We would love to return.
Everything was fantastic. It was great to eat outside. The only hiccups was that the original napkins were dirty. I do wish their mixed drink menu was a little longer. All of the seafood was fresh and delicious. Can't wait to go back!
Really our fav spot on the East End. They’re doing such a great job managing with COVID restrictions, too.
Chris and staff were considerate and outstanding.
The food was excellent and staff was very accommodating.
The food was delicious and the ambiance was very good. We sat in a room with only two tables. It was very well spaced. We shared tuna tacos and calamari salad for starters. I had mussels for a main course. One friend ordered the scallops. I don’t remember what the other two ordered. For dessert we had profiteroles.
Delicious food and great service. A must hit on shelter island
This is our favorite restaurant out here! Well worth the ferry trip! And very impressed with their precautions concerning COVID-19.
Just wished all the diners came with masks on...
They did an amazing job adapting to social distancing. It was such a pleasant dinner and the food was outstanding!
We came here for my husband’s birthday during the first week outdoor dining was permitted. They did a wonderful job of creating an inviting space in what was the parking lot. The food was excellent but the service was not. I enjoy a leisurely meal but they seemed short staffed. I would definitely come back.
Best restaurant in shelter island.
Attentive service amid COVID restrictions, delicious small menu, fresh seafood choices.
Excellent re-opening. Put a lot of thought into ambience and social distancing. Food was excellent as always. Welcome back.
The long-time owners, Lisa and Terry, are committed to offering the very best of Vine Street but in a safe setting. Seemed to us they've managed to pull that off. We had a lovely and anxiety-free meal. Vine Street is not missing a beat!
Great effort by both front restaurant and kitchen staff in these unusual times. Vine Street met the challenge. Bravo!
Great Food and Great service!
It was freezing where we were seated in some back room
Excellent as always!!
The place to dine on Shelter Island. Very nice. Not cheap but elegant yet approachable.
