Vermilion - Alexandria
Superb dinner -- delicious! Service was very good. Priced appropriately. This was our third visit to this restaurant and were impressed again.
This is my favorite restaurant in old town. I get the tasting menu and it is always so good.
One of the best restaurants in Old Town. Consistantly solid. Portion s are perfect, so as not to overwhelm. The roasted pig and salmon were superb.
We had excellent service and delicious food to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had mentioned in our reservation that we were celebrating and we were given a lovely card and a free dish of ice cream/sorbet as dessert which was above and beyond and much appreciated.
Great food and great service! I’d highly recommend this place to everyone.
My girlfriend and I LOVE this place! We have never been disappointed ever since we started coming here a few years ago. The staff is always warm, friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about everything on their menu.
Enjoyed our visit, the food was excellent, the service was fantastic, wine was good....list was limited, but still good. Overall we enjoyed it and will be back on our next visit to Alexandria.
Great service. Food was outstanding, especially the pastas. Wine list was fun and interesting. All around fantastic experience!
The food isn’t haute cuisine but kudos to the chef for his creativity and fresh ingredients. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The pasta was good but not appealingly plated. The pea soup WAS well presented and plated and delicious. The wine by the glass selection is very good.
Our waiter was excellent and the food delicious (one of the best soft shell crabs I've ever had). We ate early, so it was quiet but still cozy. I'd go back.
Simply put, the venue is super. The service could've been a little tighter, with just a slight more attention to the timing of drink refills. But all in all, that was minor. On the positive side, the food was simply outstanding and the servants did not invade our space or interrupt the flow of the table conversation. The visit was a first for my dinner date, and she will be telling her friends.
Good service and very good first courses and desserts but main courses for both my wife and myself were dry (how you can make suckling pig dry, I don't know) and unappetizing.
The manager Wes is outstanding! He made us feel so welcome. Thats what brings customers back again and again to a restaurant. For us, Vermillian is a special place!!!! Thank you Wes
We entered Vermillion on a rainy and cold Mother’s Day. The moment we stepped in we were escorted to our table, the warm ambience of the room was a delight. The service was impeccable and the food was absolutely wonderful. This day became more special...everything was perfection!
On another note, I accidentally left my glasses on the table. When I called the following day I was so pleased that they were not only there but I was told they would gladly ship them to my home in New York...now that is service!
Superb food and cocktails. Excellent service. The interior needs a light touch - On a rainy Mothers’ Day, it was dark and dreary inside.
I took my friend here last Saturday to celebrate her birthday. We've been before and returned because the food and service are always amazing - my favorite place in Old Town. Her dessert even came with a candle. It was a wonderful day.
The dining experience was superb. Chad was very helpful in walking me through my allergy mine field. We all had different main courses and to a person the experience was memorable. They also added extra touches for the person in our party celebrating a birthday. The cocktails before dinner were unique and delicious. Vermillion is a go to place.
One of our favorite spots on King St. We've been for an anniversary dinner, as we as a quick happy hour bite and Vermillion never disappoints.
5th visit. Best food we've enjoyed in Alexandria in 25 years. The Split Asparagus Salad was the best 'salad' in a lifetime, could enjoy it 1/week. And the mains: rabbit/pistachio pasta (lack of menu recall) was surprisingly... fantastic. 2nd Entree, New York Strip, while a smaller sliced portion, was really incredible, especially the spinach bed and, unreal Diamond singed Morel mushrooms with slight cream sauce. Dessert Topped off the Evening with local strawberries, and an incredible Vermillion Sweetened toast, iced cream, and the service was really the best in Alexandria! Looking at our return date...!
When Tom is away, Josh takes over the kitchen. The food is as amazing as ever, the flavor balance, the spicing, the tastes. Once again, an excellent meal which left our friends from Pittsburg totally speechless. Thanks to Vermilion, Alexandria gained two more (foodie) fans.
I went with two friends because we wanted a cozy atmosphere with great food that was quiet enough for us to have a conversation. We got all three here. The amuse bouche was delicious, as were all of our entrees. We liked that the menu doesn’t go on for pages—everything looked and tasted like the chef took great care with each element of the experience.
Everything was excellent with the exception of one thing, which detracted from the overall experience. We had a late reservation (8:00). The restaurant closes at 9:00. By 9:20 the staff was hovering, signaling their desire to have us finish and leave. It was not just one member, it was four. Vermilion is a lauded, upscale restaurant. I did not expect that we would be made to feel rushed and uncomfortable one hour and twenty minutes into our experience. It is a shame that an otherwise stellar experience was diminished.
Loved the preselected courses and local wine and liquor. Service was great as well!
Would compare it with the best restaurants on Napa. Great bottle of wine for under $100, super waiter, just the right amount of attention. Had the tasting menu, every offering was amazing. If I had a negative it would be that we are from Oregon and it will be a long time before we can experience that kind of dining again.
Wonderful experience, chef, service and management really know how to make you feel appreciated for dining at Vermilion.
I made a reservation for our anniversary based on the great reviews I've read previously. This was my first trip to Vermilion despite living in Alexandria for 25 years, and knowing that it was supposed to be one of the best of Old Town. No argument here. We ordered one fixed prix and one a la carte meal, which they timed perfectly so we were served all of our courses together. The meal was fabulous and we were treated to champagne before and sorbet after the meal for our special day. I can't wait to go back to try some of the other items on the menu.
Lovely brunch and delicious selection as customers. This restaurant never disappoints. Fresh, seasonal, local and tasty. Beautifully presented. Knowledgeable and attentive wait staff and team. A great value for quality of food.
Perfect for brunch.
Great food and service, nice ambiance right on King Street.
Revisiting an old friend with a long overdue dinner at Vermilion was a pleasant treat. Four of us all had different delicious meals. The presentation was lovely and the ambiance encouraged quiet conversation. We will definitely not wait so long to return.
Phenomenal. Andrew took great time and care with us, making suggestions and answering all of our questions. I can’t wait to go back!
Extraordinary combination of casual atmosphere and fine cuisine. Food was comparable to top NYC French but without the hauteur.
Husband’s new job
We love Vermillion. Everyone is kind and the food is wonderful
Loved all the dishes we ordered from the appetizer to the dessert! :)
Our evening at Vermilion was absolutely delightful. The wait staff was not only pleasantly attentive but also very knowledgeable with respect to the ingredients and preparation of the food. The food was superb. I had the cold pea soup and would say that it is something that must be tried by everyone, even those who have a pea aversion. My tagilatelle bolognese was magnificent. I had thought of ordering only the small portion, but was very glad that I opted for the full serving. It was if I were in Italy! Vermilion is a place you must not miss.
It was WOW experience! From the “cold pea soup, the shaved asparagus salad to the homemade pastas! Perfectly executed!
The service was non-intrusive but attentive.
Great service. Food was amazing. Starting with a variety of delicious breads made in house, phenomenal appetizers to the pastas made to perfection. There wasn't anything that could of been a bad choice including the extensive dessert menu.
Excellent service as always (Guillermo), and the food was original in taste and satisfying!
I've had lunch several times at Vermilion and never been disappointed. It's a lovely gem. When a friend from out of town visited I made dinner reservations there. My friend is well travelled and a gourmand and cook as well. He was very favorably impressed with the service and food, and also with the ambiance and noise level. It is so refreshing to be able to converse easily in a restaurant. I liked how the manager stepped in to help with questions about the menu and with ordering, as it was busy. The staff works very well together with taking orders, serving/clearing, asking to refresh drinks, etc. Our dinner choices were delicious and the portions just right, so we could have several dishes without getting overstuffed or wasting food.
What a great place! Was picking up my daughter and friend at Reagan National for her birthday weekend and she asked if we could try a place in Alexandria (we live in Bethesda). We were seated at a table upstairs and from the get-go, service was superb. They brought out a comp tasting dish that was wonderful and everything we ordered was great as well - avocado toast, bread and rolls, two types of pasta, the suckling pig and the desserts. Nice wine list and helpful, knowledgeable waiter. From start to finish, a first class experience and yet totally casual, relaxed feel. We will make the trek again.
