About Uncle Julio's - Reston Town Center

Uncle Julio’s is a Mexican from scratch kitchen serving only the freshest ingredients. Specialties include: chicken & steak fajitas, tender filet mignon, and bacon wrapped shrimp. Other favorites include: seafood fajitas, shrimp al pastor, red snapper, or ahi tuna served with homemade corn tortillas or bibb lettuce.

Uncle Julio’s menu also includes Tex-Mex classics such as tacos, enchiladas & tamales all with a selection of sauces made daily. Insider tip: order the tableside guacamole. It’s prepared for you at your table; if you like it spicy kick it up a notch with fresh chopped jalapenos.

Uncle Julio’s has a vast drink selection. Try our fresh margarita of the day, made to order with fresh fruit. If you prefer a frozen drink then the Swirl is definitely the perfect choice. The Swirl is frozen sangria & frozen margarita layered together dating back to 1987.

For reservations, please allow up to 15 minutes for us to prepare your table.

We like Uncle Julio's, but had not been in a while because of the long lines (no reservations taken). We were excited to see that they were now on Open Table. So, we tried it out. Upon arriving at 6:40 for our 6:45 reservation, we were given a pager and told that we would be a 30 - 40 min wait! I learned that they were letting walk-ins in front of us too. I had to talk to the manager to get this fixed - which she ultimately did (without apologizing). She just explained that things were busy and that's how it is. Really? What good is a reservation if you still have a wait? We finally got seated and the food was good. ...but it's going to be a while before we go back.

We were a party of 5. Made a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. It was awesome. Service was great. Food, plentiful and delicious. Drinks just right. Noise level is very high, so casual conversation is difficult.

Excellent food and service. Loud, so don't expect to engage in much conversation. Still excellent, would happily return again...and again. Convenient parking nearby.

We celebrated a team members birthday at Uncle Julio's. It was my first time there - but I had been advised the food was great - portions huge - and there is a chocolate pinata for desert! The quality of the traditional Mexican food was "great" as promised - though two people ordered salads and found there to be a lot of lettuce - but not much else - just 4 shrimp, slivers of jicama and avacado ... they left hungry. The lunch portions did not quite live up to the expectation of 'huge' - and we would have ordered more appetizers if we had realized this. The table for 6 was 'intimate' and would have been more comfortable if it was a little bigger - there was not much room for all the plates. The desert was 'off the charts' fun and delicious ... so it was worth the trip ... I'd definately go back.

I love coming to Uncle Julio’s, but yesterday dining was beyond horrible. We were sitting outdoor, our server maybe came to our table 3 times during the entire time we were there. We got the table side guacamole, and literally waiting 15 minutes for someone to bring us extra chips. When our Fajitas came, it was wrong. They had to take it back and bring the right one. The table infront of us came before us and waiting longer for their main course to come out (and it was wrong too). I was so surprised by the service we got. Usually Uncle Julio has great service, but yesterday was a complete and utter disaster.

To be fair - this is my opinion only. The reception and seating were great. We waited over 30 minutes and were done with our appetizer - the margarita's hadn't come. I gave up and got them myself - went to the bar and ordered, waited and took back to the table. We had to ask over 4 times for napkins. The margarita's and the food are marginal compared to other places nearby. Solutions to the restaurant? Step it up. The waiter was obviously overwhelmed (either new or untrained - he was very nice) - management should have been on the floor watching the outdoor and indoor dining room... you weren't that busy. The bartender was very quick and awesome once I asked her for our drinks and told her what happened - but she should have taken it a step further and told the manager - and the manager should have come to our table to address it / follow up. You guys are a chain now - you need to get back to the basics, pay attention to the details (like food and drink QUALITY) - and you need to make sure that there is at least one manager on duty who is "on it" and cares. I wouldn't come back - I would go to one of the other places on the block...

Service and quality continue to head down with every visit. Been coming here since the day it opened. Not sure if we'll ever go back. Salsa looked and tasted like it was watered down. Service was harried and as usual for the last few visits, appetizer arrives 90 seconds before dinner. Undercooked fajita steak. Why?

Loved everything as usual, but I ordered the Juanita's platter and they changed the sauce on the beef enchilada and the tamale. They used to use their chile con carne on both but now the enchilada has some sticky cheese sauce and the pork tamale had a rancheros sauce. Bring back the original sauces or made them optional please!

The food was great and a good selection. The piñata was outstanding. I normally don't eat sweets, but the chocolate and fruit combined was worth it.

The ambience was extremely loud. And with the background music, patrons had to yell to be heard. Was not impressed with the quality of food either. Our food was bland and blah. The only plus point was that service was quick.

Service and food was just mediocre. The entrees did not come as described on the menu and when we let the server know she did nothing about it except blame the kitchen. We should at least have had a small discount offered due to missing food. Our dining area was not very clean, food on walls and the floor was dirty. We were seated in a corner in the back of the restaurant. Our server was very nice in general and kept a close eye on the table.

We enjoy Uncle Julios; however, the last two visits have been very unpleasant. On the last visit, the service was some of the worst I have ever received. No salsa, no drink refills, my fajitas were delivered with no tortillas and with no wait staff in sight, I had to go find someone. The restraunt was stuffy and the noise level so high that I couldn't wait to leave (the desire to leave outweighed speaking with management). Not sure I will give them a third chance (this is not a cheap dinner). However, I will end with I have never had bad food. Not sure what has changed there. It's too bad.

Food was excellent! Came here for my son's 18th birthday, he wanted the chocolate piñata, which didn't disappoint. Very loud, and grandparents didn't like that, but overall the best experience was awesome. Great guacamole and swirl margarita/sangria.

The food was..as always, awesome. However, this time I was on a diet so decided to go with the Salmon. I didn't think it would be top of the line...but I was wrong. I eat a lot of fish and this piece of salmon was high quality..good size..and cooked to perfection. My wife got her normal fajitas..yummy! To top it off we had their specialty...margarita/sangria swirls. Love them! Great place...great service...great food.

Be careful, even though you have an open table reservation you still have to wait in line. In fact we were seated 15 minutes late and behind people who walked in.

We made a reservation nearly an hour before we arrived and even arrived ten minutes after our reservation was set, we entered and the main host told us our table would be ready in a couple of minutes. We then had waited for twenty minutes while other people who did not make reservations and had more people (we only made a reservation for five) were seated before us and were told again that our table would be set in a couple of minutes. When we were finally seated they did not give us any silverware and our table was not completely set. The food was not bad, but I wouldn't eat here for a special occasion.

Waiter was slow, not good on lunch break overall service was a lot worse than I had thought it would be. Was on a client lunch glad I brought my personality otherwise nothing was quick at all. Almost cancelled dessert. (Piñata) the server could not even bring us straws that did not hit the table. Had to get up from my table to get straws for us. Not a fan.

Food was tasteless, boring and dry. The value for the money is JUST NOT THERE. Way too much for the food they served. I've had better meals at Taco Bell. What's worse is, just to park, you get to down load a propitiatory app which wants access to ALL the information on your phone. Then you have to set up an account, and go through another whole process just to get validation. Great. I get to jump through hoops to pay for an overpriced, awful meal, after which I could not get enough water in me. WAY TOO MUCH SALT!! I was thirsty for hours. Won't make that mistake again.

The service was the only good part.

We always enjoy the tableside-prepared guacamole. This place is always active and very family-friendly. Portions are ample and tasty - wife had the fish tacos and I had Juanita's platter. Drinks were potent at this meal - which is not always the case. Service sometimes is inconsistent/slow, although this time, we got someone very attentive. The only issue for me was that the entrees came out right before the tableside guacamole and we would have enjoyed having the guacamole as a starter (which was how it had been ordered).

The servers were very attentive, and the food (i.e., fajitas, enchiladas, and tacos) -- along with the margaritas and mojitos -- was tasty. The energetic noise level made for great cover of a fussy toddler -- definitely kid friendly.

We were never seated. We scheduled an OpenTable reservation for 7:45, arrived at 7:45, and waiting for 20 minutes. We ended up leaving because the staff seemed very apathetic about the situation and there were open and available tables that weren't being used.

Maybe my expectation of OpenTable is wrong, but if you make a reservation for a time, there should be a table for you at the time you show up. It was disappointing for sure.
