Uncle Julio's - Loudoun Ratings and Reviews
The food and wait-staff were just fine...the issue was with front-desk staff. They canceled my reservation after a ten-minute wait...which is typically done after 15 minutes, not 10, so when i arrived 15 minutes late i was told, rudely, that my reservation was canceled and i may wait with all non-reservation people and would be at the bottom of the list (40 minute wait). That is not ok, saying you canceled my reservation after 10 minutes due to being busy (it was raining that day), and then giving attitude and not being willing to accommodate was not acceptable. I would hesitate coming back over the front desk staff.
Uncle Julio's in Loudoun is a great restaurant! The food is delicious, the service is fast and friendly. Our server went above and beyond to make sure all our needs are met with many special and customized orders that we had. A dinner here really made my Friday Date night with my husband ! We will visit again for sure.
Unfortunately this Uncle Julio's location continues to have issues with service and staffing appropriately. We waited 15 minutes for a server to arrive at our table and another 15 for our tableside guacamole to arrive. My husband called ahead to have a birthday chocolate ball ready for us and they did not know what we were talking about at the end of our meal. Disappointing dinner. Noise level too loud.
Second time I've gone when the tortilla machine wasn't working. Serves me cold storebought tortillas for my tacos. Only good thing there are the homemade tortillas. Expensive for the quality food and server was not great. Never refilled our waters or experience.
This place is not new to my husband and I; we frequent it at least once a month. I have dietary restrictions in which they are typically happy to accommodate. This night, however, was awful – the management, the service, and the food. Our waitress couldn't keep up with her 5-table section so when we ordered table-side guac that was prepared by a non-english understanding individual who saturated it with oil. Why??? It took 10min before we got up to ask for a manager who was irritated by our complaint, because our waitress disappeared. It then took 20min for the guacamole to be remade and replaced, in which it was the same exact bowl. We saw the manager look at our table and recognize it hadn't been replaced, and grabbed the bowl in which he placed to the side. For real? Then our dinner had come out without the requested corn tortillas, as we cannot have wheat. It took another 12 minutes to not only see our waitress but then get the tortillas...for which our dinner was cold. The waitress was also short and rude with us because we asked for a manager.
Another huge complaint is that you are telling your customers your corn chips are gluten free, but they are fried in a fryer with wheat. That is NOT gluten free and for those of us who become violently ill, I highly recommend you educate your self and staff on this.
I cannot say I will go back, especially after this trip. If spend 12 years in the industry, hosting, serving, bartending, and FOH management. This is NOT how you bring back business or take care of your customers.
Had to wait over 45 minutes for meal to arrive. Have no problem with waiting for good food, but when there are 2 tables next to you that come and go in the same amount of time, there's the problem. Manager came out and apologized. Said they they would take something off our bill for our wait. They did not. Also I have food allergies. They did not comply with my request for no dairy with my fajitas. Dish comes with a side of cheese/lettuce. I took this off my plate , but I still became sick from the cross contamination. Will never return to this restaurant.
This restaurant is loud, between very loud music, screaming children and large groups having to speak over the music the sound level is excruciating. As th the food, it is generally well prepared with fajitas being the go to for me. It is slightly more expensive than the average Mexican restaurant but portions are large. The chips and salsa are great and fresh tortillas are a plus.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for anything. We had a terrible experience and spent a lot of money. The food was below average. The "table side" quacamole was terrible plus wasn't made at our table, but we were still charged for the service. It took forever for us to get it and when it was finally delivered we had no plates or chips. My husband had to get up and get our plates and chips. By the time our main entrees were delivered the food was cold. We will not be returning. There are too many other places to eat that offer better service and food.
We were there for my sisters birthday celebration. I made a mistake on my reservation and made it for the next day the hostess was very nice and let us know there was a wait but seated us fairly quickly. It was my mistake but the hostess accomdated us and helped me not look like a fool in front of my family lol. Mike or Mikey was our server he was very friendly, promptly greeted us, menu knowledge was great, attentive to our table and made us feel comfortable. I've worked in the service industry before and he was great and had what I call an amazing pre-bus. Later in the evening I realized it was one of his first shift and was definitely impressed. Friday's are busy and he didn't break a sweat. Your manager Darvis, like always is amazing. Thanks uncle julios for another amazing experience.
We had a party of 7.... Our server was triple-sat so we ordered our drinks and our meal at the same time. When the entree's were delivered, only 5 arrived. The other 2 were delivered to wrong table. Waited at least 20+ mins for the other 2 ( enhiclada's) to be delivered. The manager delivered them. We have eaten here several times. Always short staffed. While the manager did comp the 2 meals that were late...in my opinion, he should have taken care of more.
My family likes Uncle Julio's. However, when we went this last time to celebrate my brother's birthday, we made a reservation online. Even though I received two confirmation emails (with the correct address, time, and date), when we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess told us they had no reservation for us and would not honor it because it was not in their system. We were told we would have to wait an extra hour to be seated (it was already 8:30pm), unless we would sit outside. We decided to sit outside just so we wouldn't have to wait so late, but once we were seated, the service didn't get much better. It took our waitress over 15 minutes to just to come take our drink order and I don't think we got our food until almost 9:30pm , an hour after we were seated. It was loud and hot outside and the service was slow. Once the waitress finally started attending to our table, things got a little better. She did a good job, but overall, it was a disappointing experience.
Had a great meal at Uncle Julios! We started at bar with margaritas then moved to a table for dinner. Shared the shrimp fajitas that were wrapped in bacon with jalapeno pepper. Wow! They were fantastic. Came with enough sides that were plenty for two with an extra scoop of guacamole. Yummy!
This is the second time we have been at this location in the last month and had the same server - she was AWFUL!!! Did not check on us even when our food arrived and when we flagged her down for more drinks, chips even the check, she came with ATTITUDE PLUS!! like we were asking her to do something that was not part of her job responsibility. I wanted to complain to the manager, but my husband (who is the easy going one) said no. He said that we'll just go to Reston from now on and didn't care if we had to pay for parking or not to get the good service we have been use to for so many years from Rio Grande/Uncle Julio's.
Food was good as usual, server was fine, but hostess and kitchen were the downfall of this visit!
We arrived at 7:30 for our 7:45 reservation and was told they were getting our table ready (place was only ~ 65% full but we overheard them quoting a 45 minute wait for parties of 2-4 despite plenty of open tables). Still not sat 5 minutes AFTER our reservation time, meanwhile others parties of same size without reservations have already been sat. When I asked, manager looked in the system and clearly my party of 3 had been forgotten based on her words and body language towards the host staff. Gave us no acknowledgement of their error.
Once sat, got drinks and chips as normal - young server was nice, prompt and attentive. Placed our order ~ 8 PM. Restaurant started emptying out, now < 40% full in the dining room and bar, most of whom were already eating. After 2nd round of chips and salsa and 3 drink refills, server apologized for the wait stating that there was a large party (4 adults and 7 kids) who just got their food - that was at 8:25. Finally got our food at 8:35...more than half an hour after ordering. And my wife didn't get tortillas with her meal - server didn't realize until we pointed it out 10 minutes later.
Large party excuse would have been acceptable if there were more people in the restaurant who ordered at the same time as we did - several servers were standing around which was more proof that the kitchen wasn't busy. No manager came by to check/apologize for the reservation or the delay in service.
This location admits that it is some 20% more expensive than others in the area, due to the "fresh ingredients" they use here - makes you wonder what type of ingredients are used elsewhere. The host staff and kitchen really let their server down - except for forgetting the tortillas, none of this was his doing. I can only imagine what the experience would be like when the place is actually full...
I was VERY dissappointed with the service. We went there for my husband's birthday and when I checked in, I made sure they noted this was a dinner for his birthday - which was entered with my Open Table reservation. The host confirmd it , but at the end of dinner - NOTHING was done to recognize his birthday; why wasn't the server notified? That really bothered me. On another note, our server, Sandra, looked miserable - no smile, barely came by to our table and food service took forever. Was not hospitable at all. She even forgot to bring my side dishes, which I was charged for. I love Mexican food, but there are some other palces where we the service is much better is shurn/Leesburg area; I'm not coming back.
