teriyaki, home made cucumber pickles
Great buzzy eatery with lovely cocktails, fabulous food and great atmosphere.
I shouldn't be telling you about this place because you ask will go there and I can't get a table.
e had a great evening at at Ukai. The service and food was as good as usual.
The manager Olivier looked after is and mate us laugh.
The avocado tempura his to die for!!
Can't wait to go again
The only thing is that the music was very loud
We had a great birthday dinner, all the staff made it a great evening
Been here on Sunday afternoon
We loved the atmosphere, the live music was amazing
We started our meal with a fried baby squid and a couple of maki rolls. After a delicious cocktail we ordered 2 main courses, and that what makes us fall in love with the food. The beef short ribs was simply outstanding, was melting in my mouth; the Black cod miso was superb, one of the best in town.We decided to end the meal with one more maki, the smoked salmon roll.
All the food we had was high quality.Very talented chef.
See you next Friday night👅
I was very disappointed. We discovered Ukai in November and had an amazing time. Great staff and fantastic food and atmosphere. So on our next visit to London we took our friends which I regretted. The service was horrible despite the number of waiting staff and lack of customers. Furthermore the unbearable loud music made it unpleasant spend any amount of time there.
The food was still good though.
I’m not sure why the experience was so different. Maybe the restaurant management changed or maybe it’s just the staff working that night. One thing I know is that we won’t be returning.
Really great food, love the pork buns
Great food, service and value for money. Highly recommend!
Excellent Japanese food in an atmospheric setting. The sashimi was outstanding. Music was a touch too loud which would be the only criticism.
Outstanding food and service. First impressions walking in to a DJ playing was a bit different but very enjoyable evening had.
Had a great evening on Saturday, great food, drinks and vibe! Really lovely staff too will be back!
One of my favourite spots in the area. Try the JFC - the chicken is delicious and the sauce is insane. You will not be disappointed. A great place for date night in terms of ambience, nice mood lighting, funky music and really tasty sushi, sashimi and more!
A sublime experience in every ways.
The sashimi was very fresh, loved all the dishes.Attentive service.
High quality Japanese food.Best Sunday meal!!!!
The food is unreal, the ramen was very tasty, the salmon fillet and the dragon roll my favourite.
Would definitely come back and recommend
RUBBISH! Do not come here! Took 20 mins to sit us down, waiters don’t pay attention to you. It took 10-20 minutes to get out soft drinks! And the they say to us they ran out of crab legs and wagyu beef on a Saturday 9pm!, the owner or manager with bald head then says give me 15 mins and I will get you wagyu beef, after 40 mins or so the “wagyu” steak was ready and served to us, it’s was NOT wagyu it was a fillet! They lied and charged us £80 for a fillet and a bad service! Avoid coming here!!
Great food, service mixed - manager really good but staff a bit random. We went on a Saturday night and the music was really loud but a good vibe. Not right for a quiet dinner but great for a group.
Book at Ukai for a quick lunch, we finish to order and try almost all the maki rolls from the menu.Very tasty and fresh.
The fireplace it’s a beautiful addition 😍
The place is very noisy but that can be fun.
However, the food is terrible with tasteless fish and overcooked rice (how hard can that be?).
The service was even worse and we had to cancel drinks orders that never came.
This was your recommendation!!! Poor choice!!!
Great food and energy. Good date night spot with well crafted cocktails.
Good mix of a small bar and small restaurant. Good food. Bar is a little too crowded for Saturday night however
When I booked only the table for 4 was available but it was 5 of us so I booked it and called and asked for a chair to be placed extra, it wasn’t so I have asked and was denied it which meant we were seating cramped on the sofa. It wasn’t fully booked so I don’t understand why they wanted to keep the chair away from us in case someone would walk in, our table spent a lot of money. The food was lovely, I would recommend.
A bit too noisy for my taste. The sushi is good but nothing special.
Amazing sushi, really good selection of dishes and a great atmosphere, definitely a great option for a lively Friday night!
Best sushi we ever had
Our dinner was among the two or three most memorable meals of our life.
The quality of the food, the taste pairing shows an excellent works behind the menu.
The wine list is vast, and the prices are honest especially for the wines by glass.highly recommended.
I used to go to UKai in Bayswater and loved it before they closed it down. The portobello branch is good, quality of food is good but music is too loud for having a Japanese dinner..felt like it didn’t quite fir. The food was great and the fish was fresh however the menu was limited, there is no shrimp sushi amongst others... the selection is very small
The place is beautiful and the food is good, maybe a bit overpriced.
What was really bad was the noise level. The music selection was good (DJ was playing) but it was ridiculously loud. I had to shout in order to talk with my partner. That is just not what you expect from a Friday night dinner.
It is ok if you want to have several pints and discuss the last football match but definitely not recommended for a relaxed and romantic Japanese experience.
It would be sad if they could not fix this in the future. There are plenty of sushi restaurants and the competition is high.
We enjoyed every dish we had.The delicious startes left us really impressed. The unique black cod miso and the octopus ends our meal with a classy touch.
We had a citrus and chilled sake after meal.Nice atmosphere with cool and trendy music.it was a perfect experience, I was very delighted to write this review. It’s a must go in Notting Hill.Foodie approved.
We went to Ukai for dinner this evening. All the reviews were so good that we had high expectations. Unfortunately we must have been very unlucky. This was probably one of the worst meals we’ve had in a while. The rice was stale and the fish was soggy and tasted old and freshly defrosted. It had clearly been in the freezer for some time and was falling apart. To top it off, there was no soap in the loos. Hopefully this was a one-off.
The food and drink were simply exceptional. Some of the best softshell crab I have eaten anywhere. The Friday night ambience with the DJ in the bar section made for a laid back dinner which was perfect. I cannoy recommend this place highly enough.
Cool room and vibe. Great staff!
Too noisy but nice food
We came to the restaurant last week, the place was busy, but we had a very good experience. The food was amazing, very interesting menu, the sushi rice was just perfect. We had also few cocktails from the nice drinks menu.
The food is to die for, especially the seafood carpaccio, the black cod miso and the hamachi roll.We had 6/7 courses to share. The bill was honest for the high quality of the food.I really suggest to try the Japanese colada from the cocktail bar
Music is unnecessarily too loud. Food is ok but overpriced, the former setting of UKAI on the other side of Portobello Road was much nicer.
Main meal was forgotten and took over 40 minutes to arrive. We were never asked for drinks after the first round. It felt like speakers from the DJ were placed directly above our head making any conversation difficult. The portion size for the price was ridiculously small and not worth it.
Overall food was good but Our grilled salmon arrived like 25 mins late!
Notting Hills finest bar restaurant!
The restaurant is part of a bar/pub that sometimes plays live music. On my visit it was very loud so not the best place for a sit down meal. Staff very nice and we moved tables towards the back. Food decent and fairly priced. I’d recommend for a lunch with a few friends
