Thom Thom Steak & Seafood Restaurant
Visit us as we are only a few steps north of the Wantagh train station.
Had to wait 40 minutes to be seated. The management did comp us 2 appetizers for the wait. Food was good but 2 entrees were served with the wrong sides. Wouldn’t say the dining experience is worth trying again.
The restaurant was quiet and had a warm vibe. Food was liked by all five of us. Served hot, delicious, and at a nice pace.
Service was poor and the wait time was unconscionable. We arrived at 7:30 with reservations and didn’t get a table until 8:20 and didn’t get our main course until 9:20. The hostess simply could have told us the truth that the wait was not 15 minutes but more like 45-60 minutes. If they are that busy on a Saturday night they should not take reservations. Very disappointing. At least the food was good...silver lining but overall a bad experience.
Reservation made through Open Table for 7:30, we get sat at 7:50. No problem, understand place is packed. This is where we go down hill service wise. It took 20 minutes for someone to come over and take our drink order. We wait another 10 minutes and in that time a different server came by, said
Food was good, Kung Pao shrimp was a little heavy on the sauce. We try to go here early to avoid the crowds and higher noise level. Overall, a nice dinner out.
Great food, terrible service.
We have been regular patrons at Thom Thom for many years. This was first time we dined there for a holiday (Thanksgiving). Everything was adequate but not special. The portions seemed less than normal size. Prices were above normal, i.e. $49 for a turkey dinner (even if it did include normal appetizer and dessert). Disappointed in experience.
My fiance and I made a 7:45pm reservation on OpenTable. When we arrived, the restaurant was so full, we could hardly move around. The hostess told us it would be another 15 minutes to seat us. After 30 minutes of waiting at the bar, we started a conversation with a young couple who had been waiting over 1 hour! This is the not the first this has happened and for this reason, we will not be returning. This is really unacceptable.
Went on Saturday to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and had 7:30 reservations. Place was packed. We waited at the bar as did many other people waiting for a table. We didn’t get seated until 9. I don’t think it’s fair to the staff or customers to overbook. It’s too bad because the food is delicious and our waitress was really good but she was running around and I felt bad for her. When you make reservations at a certain time you should be seated somewhere around that time that’s why you make reservations.
Our reservations were at 7:30, weren’t seated till 8:15. So they over book, which didn’t please us or others also waiting.
I took my wife to the restaurant for her anniversary. We have been there a few times prior which we had an amazing time and the food was good. This time we had a different experience. The service was not that great. We barely saw our waitress. The food was not that great neither. We got the surf and turf roll and the steak was dry as well as the rice. I got a $30 ribeye that was practically paper thin. I requested it to be cool to medium and it was cooked well done. The creamed spinach was bland and the mashed potatoes were also dry. My wife’s salmon was very fishy and chewy. Pretty sad since we really enjoyed this restaurant. Hopefully they fix the issues.
HORRIBLE! I know this is a long post but please read before going here. When we checked in for our 7:30 reservation we were told that there were “lots of tables with people just sitting” and that we would have a 10 minute wait - a seat at the bar was suggested. After 25 minutes I asked if our table would be ready soon because we had been waiting 25 minutes...again I was told that they were waiting for tables to become available. Shortly after 8:15 we were seated. The waitress apologized but brusquely asked if she could get us another drink (we brought our drinks over from the bar). We ordered another round but were confused...was she offering us drinks because of the long wait? When the waitress returned she asked if we were ready to order. We knew what we wanted for apps but didn’t have time to decide on entrees. The waitress (we never got her name) said we would have to order everything at once because “it’s Saturday night and if you don’t you’ll have a long wait”. Regardless, we waited a long time which prompted a member of our party to inquire if our drinks would be on the house due to the excessive wait to be seated and for our food. The waitress said she would ask. A short time later the manger, Neil, came over and informed us, “we called your name three times at the bar and no one answered”. I jumped up from my seat and showed him exactly where we were - STEPS away from the hostess station. It was impossible that our name was called and no one in our party heard it. Neil continued to insist that this happened. I was appalled at his behavior and I told him that if we hadn’t waited for over an hour to be seated/for food we would leave but at this point where could we go at 8:45 for dinner on a Saturday night. I asked him to PLEASE stop arguing a point and let me enjoy my dinner with my party. The food was delicious but not worth the wait or horribly rude staff. This was not our first time at Thom Thom but definitely the last.
Wonder night! Had a reservation for 2!!! on a Friday night walked in and sat down - the whole experience soup to nuts was amazing.
Very nice meal with excellent service.
Restaurant Week Menu was excellent in showcasing this establishment. The filet Mignon was done just right-as was ordered medium. The Scottish Salmon was grilled to perfection- crisp on the outside and very tender and juicy in the center and the sauce it was served with was perfect. The chef does everything right! Will be coming back with family and friends. I discovered why they serve pita bread on the table when you arrive, the previous owner was from India and added his traditional touch so they (the new owners) serve it to the customers. The hummus and greek yogurt dipping sauce compliments the naan bread mistaken for pita. The sushi appetizer went well with my steak and the autumn salad of heirloom tomatoes, goat cheese, red pear and granny smith apple with roaming lettuce and candied walnuts served with cider vinegarette dressing complimented the Scottish Salmon while my son really loved the Black Angus Beef Meatballs appetizer. So give this place a try and you'll be back for some more, like I am doing!
Was pleasantly surprised that they were offering restaurant week menu on Saturday night!!!!
Real nice dining experience
We went for restaurant week. It was very crowded but we only waited a few minutes to be seated. The sushi was amazing. Everything was very good.
It was Long Island restaurant week so the place were packed. The menu was good value and my only issue was the chopped autumn salad that it was very small, would have order the chef’s choice sushi roll instead. The food was not bad but not wow.
We discovered Thom Thom during the previous Long Island Restaurant Week. The food and the service was great. It has now become one of our favorite restaurants.
We went for Restaurant Week everything was excellent. We will definitely be back!!
Food was ok. Restaurant has no focus. Food is so different , not sure they know what they want to be.
Food was delicious and service was great. Will be back.
We had a great time for restaurant week. Our only complaint was that our space was rather small. We felt a bit crowded when parties of the same size had even bigger tables and were right on top of us.
We were seated in the bar area. Some regulars came in and were a bit loud and used foul language which was a little annoying with my mom, aunt and my 13 year old sitting there. Food was good. Service was a little slow. Busy with restaurant week though.
Thom Thom never fails to disappoint. We were there for restaurant week. The appertizers were a large portion and were very good. We had the sushi entree. It was 1 special roll and 1 regular roll. Very filling. Could barely finish. And desserts were very good also. As said previously have never been disappointed here and will be back again in the near future.
I live in Wantagh and eat here a lot... I was annoyed when I asked for my filet to be black & blue and was told that they only cook rare - this is a steak and seafood restaurant so that really was a ridiculous response although not the servers fault as this is what she was told. The manager came over and started to tell me the same thing but his response also said because it was so busy - really? The food is always good and I really do love the restaurant but they need to let chef know that there is more to steak than rare.
Had a wonderful dinner, arrived a bit early and the 4 of us were seated. Server was most attentive, efficient and professional~! The meals were all perfectly prepared- astoundingly delicious-KUDOS TO THE CHEF!.. All is all again another memorable, enjoyable and relaxing Dining experience ... be back more often!
Everything was good, experienced minor 10 minute delay for our reserved table, no big deal place was very busy and this was at 6:15 PM on Sat. night. My Filet Mignon was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately my wife's fish special was delivered luke warm. We were asked by the server if everything was fine, but my wife did not mention it since we were half way through with dinner. No point in sending back at that juncture.
Great Food and service!!!
Had such potential! Great location - right off highway and right at Wantagh LIRR stop. Food is nothing special and the service is CONSISTENTLY lacking (slow, not great customer service, etc). Bartender tried hard but clearly is inexperienced. We have been there several times over the years and every year or so decided to try “one more time” and are always disappointed - no matter which night of the week we dine.
Nice big bar and good selection of liquor Would love to to expanded sushi appetizer selection and more healthy dinner options.
Service was Terrible. Waitress Jennifer was horrible
Excellent food and service
This place always has such great food and super friendly service. Thank for always providing a great experience!
Food was delicious and fresh. Waiter was rather curt and service was rushed.
The food was absolutely amazing! The only complaints I had were that it was a little too loud in the restaurant area (which is to be expected when you have a smaller size room with the amount of tables they have) and the service was a bit slow. The waitress we had was great at first, very attentive, but after our entrees were brought out, we sat there with our plates still on the table for at least a half hour - maybe 45 minutes - before someone stopped by to see if they could wrap our leftovers. It then took us at least another 15/20 minutes to flag the waitress down for our check. Definitely won’t let this steer me away though, I would go back in a heartbeat!
Went here to celebrate my mom’s 79th birthday. We have been several times before and always enjoyed our meal. Service was great and food was good....until a bug crawled out from under my guests’s food. The waitress was extra apologetic but the manager (who was informed about the bug but had not seen it) disregarded it as a fruit fly, which it most definitely was not. He had a very disbelieving attitude towards us, as if we were lying. Needless to say, the other guests didn’t finish their meals and we did not even order the birthday desserts we were looking forward to. NOT impressed with the manager’s attitude and will never eat here again.
Food took close to an hour for two meals. My meal came raw and had to be sent back.
Loved this place ! The food was outstanding. The service was a little slow, but it gave you time to enjoy your cocktail and talk before eating. I liked it that we weren't rushed.
