The Southern Gentleman
The gorgeous top floor space in Buckhead Atlanta was designed by New York’s Lacina Heitler, and features classic, Southern touches done in surprising, modern ways: seersucker window treatments, tufted camel leather booths, vintage plateware, white marble countertops, vaulted ceilings, herringbone floors, dramatic chandeliers, complete with an oversized portrait of Mark Twain painted by a commissioned local artist.

My husband and I selected Southern Gentleman for a celebratory dinner in honor of our 18th anniversary! The service and food was impeccable! The staff went beyond their call of duty to make this occasion special by giving us preferential seating! We definitely plan on returning in the near future!!!
Food was fantastic, if it was available. We were disappointed in the size of serving for the cost of the main plates. The biscuit that came with the gravy and egg couldn’t have been more than a 2 x 2 in size. Additionally, they were out of a lot of different types of alcohol and cocktails that we had requested. The food that was available was good. The music was a bit overwhelmingly loud. My husband got the chicken with pancake which was by far the best dish!
Was there on Sunday for brunch. Great food and excellent service. Will definitely visit again in the near future.
Celebrating my birthday
I had a wonderful experience, the staff is friendly, the food was amazing and the ambiance was perfect.
We had a beautiful table and a darling waitress. Food and drinks were delicious.
Enjoyed my going away dinner with friends at Southern Gentleman. From beginning to end the staff was attentive and ensured the experience was great.
The food was amazing as well. We enjoyed the catfish bites, bacon, shrimp and grits, fried chicken, and the burger. We were all fully satisfied with the food. And the drinks omg is all I can say. Thank you for a great dining experience.
Great food and service. Temperature was quite chilly for a very rainy night.
Our anniversary was amazing! Thank you! We'll DEFINITELY be returning for brunch NEXT time. Dinner was great.
Great and cute brunch spot in Atlanta
recently relocated back to Atlanta. A dear friend researched brunch restaurants, and selected the Southern Gentleman. I'm so glad she did because they have a returning customer. ;-)
The service and atmosphere was mature and great!!
Service was terrible and the food was not good. Shrimp was not pickled and it was gummy, we were served 4 small celery stalks with our hummus. The fried green tomatoes were hard and over fried.
We enjoyed the mussels and mac & cheese.
Our drinks took a very long time.
Great location and service! Unfortunately our skillet cinnamon roll was cold through the middle and our pancake was not very warm either. The manager was very accommodating and got us replacement dishes. The pimento cheese omelette was amazing!
Great food service. The bar was a bit busy which slowed service.
We had the fried chicken. It was moist and tasty. The mac and cheese was bland.
Overall it was a pleasant experience.
This place and the food even was very beautiful. A true southern feel. Until u taste the food. There’s nothing really southern about it except the titles. It was tasteless. The service over all was amazing but could definitely use a new chef.
It was a Tuesday morning so not much of a crowd, it was rather quiet but not too quiet. We were sat next to a window overlooking the street and it was overall a great experience. I got the fried chicken with mac n cheese and greens and everything was amazing.
I came on Sunday for brunch & had a fabulous visit with great food, great service & a great environment. I will definitely return!
The space is beautiful. Alex (perhaps the manager) was lovely and quite responsive. The server (a young lady) was also lovely and responsive. The bearded ginger-haired gentleman expediting food was not so responsive and quite condescending. The music, even for a Saturday night was entirely too loud! I love Barracuda by the group Heart, but not more than the conversation I was attempting to have with colleagues. I will never return on the weekend again. The food was delicious but the kitchen had run out of items.
Seated 30 minutes after reservation. Food was well priced and pretty good. Excellent service from my waiter.
Great food and great vibes!
3rd time and just as impressed as ever!
Was here for a birthday dinner (party of two). Drinks were good, Miguel our server was attentive and tried to overcome obstacles, but the food just took too long to get to us. By the time our plates arrived, the food was room temp or cold. I asked for the tab and ordered dessert but we left after no signs of it 15 minutes after paying.
We sat on the patio and the ambiance is visually romantic and classy, however the heater fan overhead was so loud we practically shouted to have conversations. Also note that if you have seafood allergies they fry everything in the same oil. The manager offered to give me a ribeye at the same cost as the fried chicken entree that I wanted or grill the chicken instead which was nice. Unfortunately the Ribeye was tough and dried out since it came out pre sliced on top of my veggies and presentation was not appealing. Our server was slow and forgetful but very nice. Our cocktails from the bar and the mac n cheese were the best thing we all had of the night. This was a party of 8 for a Birthday dinner.
We came in at 5:30 Sunday evening. They were out of pulled pork, we were told, after all orders were taken. My daughter ordered DrP. He came back saying sorry, but we have RootBeer. He came back AGAIN saying oh sorry, we have no sodas at all. So, no pulled pork, no sodas. Pimento cheese was less than amazing. The toast was ok. Nothing fantastic. I ordered sweet potato hash. It was half burnt with maybe a spoonful of marshmallow creme in the bottom of the bowl. I was so thrilled to try that and it was a huge disappointment. Then we wanted dessert. I ate a small plate on purpose bc I wanted the sweet potato bourbon pecan pie. Nope. They were out of that as well. Manager was sent over to see if everything was alright. We were like “well you’re out of literally everything but I guess it’s going ok”. Our ticket was outrageous for what little food we actually had on our table.
We made a reservation but there was no table available, which kind of defeats the purpose of reserving a table. Once we were seated, it was alone behind the other restaurant next door with a bunch of random chairs, it was cold and we were frequently forgotten about. The food was average, my salad had toppings listed on the menu that didn’t get put on the salad so it was just beets and lettuce. We were told they were out of a menu item when we got there and on our way out (about two hours later due to the slow service), we saw it on someone’s table. If it wasn’t for the folks I came with and the mimosas we were served it would’ve been a pretty bad time. I would only come back for drinks.
Visiting my daughter at college for the weekend and took out her and her friends here for sunday brunch. Very yummy and not too too pricey, their fried chicken and skillet pancake signature dish is very delicious and should be ordered by at least one person in your party!! Also love the frittata, ask for it warmed up with pimento cheese. Omelet was fine but nothing special, scrambled eggs were good and the side of bacon came with like 10 pieces. Seasonal mimosas was wonderful!
The server was amazing and there was a very fun ambiance for brunch, however the kitchen messed up one of the food orders twice.
Beautiful spot. We were there for Sunday brunch.
It was the day after Valentines Day and they were still using Valentine’Day limited menu instead of full menu.
First off.. its was valentine's day weekend.. it was loud and crowded.. they were running behind so we has to wait 45 mins for our 8:30 table to be ready.. I thought since it was the day after valentine's day the menu would go back to their usual.. not so.. they said that they had some left over from valentine's day so they decided to run that same menu again.. nothing on there looked appetizing to me.. and I was a little annoyed that they were telling me this is all I could choose from... at 40 dollars a plate I didnt think so.. so my date and I made other reservations and promptly left..
Waiter was extremely rude and delayed giving us our check for 15 minutes because we didn’t want to order dinner after viewing the limited holiday menu. New friends told us NOT to go there and we should’ve listened.
Very eclectic and limited menu choices. Loud music and louder patrons. This is more of a bar than a restaurant.
Our food was served barely warm. A carrot dish had some carrots that were cooked through while others were crunchy. It was such an inconsistent dish. My husband could not finish his scallop dish because the middle of them were raw. The service was slow to arrive and while we were sitting at our table other servers came over at least three times to deliver food that did not order. This is one of the most mismanaged restaurants I've ever been to. I won't return because serving raw food is not safe for anyone.
We have loved coming to southern gentleman for dinner but the brunch was sub par. The portions for most of us were very small. And they were out of just about everything on the menu. Service was slow.
It was great, as usual.
Went there for brunch and the food was very good. We started with the beet salad which was excellent although very late but the manager voluntarily comped us to make up for the delay. Hubs got the fried chicken and pancake. He didn't know it came with bacon so he accidentally ordered bacon on the side, but I question if that was truly "accidental". Wow, that pancake was dynamite! Truly special. It was over an inch thick and fluffy! I got the shrimp and grits which was delicious but similar to most places (ie SCK). We both got the seasonal pomegranate mimosas, very good. Hubs started with coffee which was just okay and came with generic white diner sugar. Would have liked to see sugar in the raw. Overall we really enjoyed it.
I took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day (day after actually, we both worked late in Friday) to try their brunch. We were a little early for our 10am reservation, but they told us to pick any seat we liked. Overall the food was great, I had the pimento omelette and she had the French toast with a side of chicken sausage. We wanted to try the bread basket but they were sold out. We got Johnny cakes instead and those were just two small pancakes for $6. Those were disappointing hence the 4 star review, but overall we were pleased and will probably go back again when it warms up outside to sit on their patio.
We were definitely disappointed of the menu considering the price point. Our waiter Kevin was the only thing that saved the night.
The food was outstanding!
The food, staff, and service were absolutely amazing. My husband and I came here to celebrate his birthday. The staff went above and beyond to make my husbands dinner a special one. We requested a certain dish that was not on the menu and the chef happily accommodated our request. Service like this is what will keep customers like me coming back for more.
