Nice food, nice waiter and the fact it was crowded was a good sign. However...… I was given the experience as a gift, the voucher being bought some time ago. When we arrived we handed over the voucher and were told that as it was bought before November last year, we were going to be charged £1 per person extra. One measly pound each on top of the hefty price you charge for some sandwiches, scones and sweet cakes. And rather than waive this, as this was a gift experience, you actually took £2 from us at the end. This was petty, unnecessary and put a surprised expression even on the waiter who took the money from us. You charge way too much anyway. The £2 should have been waived. For that reason we would not recommend you and would not come back.

Both our meals were good. We were warned before we ordered that there would be a wait as food is cooked to order and it was worth the wait. Lamb tagine could have been slightly hotter but this was not an issue. Dessert was amazing. Lovely pot of strong tea that was refilled as needed.

Beautiful location and wonderful staff. The afternoon tea was nice but the cakes were a bit stodgy.

Always a nice place to visit, wasn’t keen on the sandwich choices but everything else was lovely. Was fairly busy but took a fair time to get someone’s attention for another drink.

Despite the venue not being full, we found it noisy. The service was not good, we had to keep asking for things and even then they never came. The food was good. Wouldn’t rush back.

My only criticism is that they offer endless tea. We asked for a second pot and they just used the same tbags meaning the tea was too weak to drink

Although the afternoon tea was lovely, it was very poor value for money. Also the noise level was exceptionally loud and we struggled to have any conversations.

We absolutely loved this magical place. We came here for an afternoon tea and it was such a delight. The food was lovely, the service was fabulous and the atmosphere was good. The decor was very pretty also inside and out.
We are already planning our next trip here.

I had been here previously, 6yrs ago, and had an amazing day. I remembered how much o enjoyed this place so but I bought my mother here for her 50th birthday for afternoon tea, along with my 4yr old child. My mother is wheelchair bound and the staff were extremely accommodating, making my mother feel so special and appreciated, without the staff coming across forced, which was wonderful.

The food was out of this world and then some, we had to be provided boxes to take the remainder with us as there was so much!

The staff also made up a special children afternoon tea for my daughter and she felt so grown up.

The food options are flexible and the staff couldn't have done more to make pur experience special, they went above and beyond.

The Secret Garden is a lovely place and very pretty - can only imagine what Afternoon Tea would be like in the Summer sitting outside. It was quite busy and had a great atmosphere and the staff were really polite and helpful.

Having wanted to visit for a long time we were very disappointed with the food which was overcooked and tough for one meal and the other was a complete mystery - it was supposed to be handmade breakfast and the sausage was bizarre and more like a fish cake - can only guess that maybe it hadn't been plated up correctly.

We mentioned this to the staff and to their credit they removed one of the meals from our bill and for that alone I can only praise their Customer Service! Other Customers all seemed to be having Afternoon Tea which looked good, perhaps that was the way to go!

Vegetarian could be a little more adventurous, the onion and mushroom suet pudding was quite soggy and bland, but still same price as Duck !
But we have been to the pudding night that was excellent.

Food and service was excellent good value for money but not good for disabled people as very difficult for wheelchair to get past the very tight fitting tables and also the disabled toilet was used to store high chairs in so had to remove them to get wheelchair in there.

We went to the Secret Garden for Sunday Brunch. The breakfast was all homemade including a pulled pork sausage. Not really to my taste but nice change. The staff and atmosphere are just wonderful in a beautiful location. I would recommend the Secret Garden especially for afternoon tea. All homemade with plenty to choose from - don’t forget to ask for a box to take home any leftovers as the portions are ample.

Booked as a festive treat for my friend and I. From the beginning, everyone I spoke with was extremely friendly and helpful. Once there the service did not faultier...nothing was too much trouble. Tea and coffee was continuously topped up, with even the offer of hot milk for the coffee. The food was plentiful and delicious and a box was offered to take away anything that we could not eat. Looking forward to going again in the new year.

What has happened to the Secret Garden? I used to be a regular visitor. Went for lunch with a friend & we are firstly served flat Prosecco which was duly changed. This was followed by soup with stale bread and a fish dish with potatoes & veg in a slimy sauce which was heavily salted and had no other flavour. Surely the pavlova would be safe? The thick wedge of unpleasant cream presumably having been long term frozen was unpalatable. The waiter (the one with his braces hanging loose down his posterior over his stained trousers) didn’t seem to know the difference between a cake plate and cake fork over a side plate and knife. All tables were set for afternoon tea at midday and the tea china was not removed for our lunch booking. The numbers dining were low, mainly eating afternoon tea at midday & I felt the dining room is no longer fit to serve lunch. The end of an era for us, we will not be returning. All in all unsatisfactory.

I had a voucher for my 40th birthday and attended for afternoon tea with my Mum.
The room was very pretty, the service was great, the food was very tasty and plentiful and we had lots of tea to accompany the food. I would definitely love to go again. My only recommendation, although it didn't spoil our experience was that the table was a little too close to the toilet and therefore people passing caused slight movement of our table and chairs due to the wooden flooring. The surprise birthday message was a nice touch.

In terms of location the place is excellent. Really stunning surroundings and the restaurant itself is also lovely.
I went for brunch on a Sunday. It was very quiet, not many ppl in the restaurant. However I found the service really slow, our food took a long time to come and the eggs Benedict was not that good. Infact probably the worst I've had.
Therefore I would not go back for brunch. Their normal lunch and dinner might be fine. We tried one of their lemon cakes and that was really nice. So perhaps a good place for tea and cake.
