That was one of the best, perhaps the best, steak I have ever had. Our server Matthew, was terrific! Of special note, the dessert we had was the pavlova and wow! That was, without a doubt, the best I've ever had. Only minor item was the potatoes au gratin - very good, but not on par with everything else. We will definitely be back to The Royce. We may stay at a different property than the Langham, but that's another review.
Great meal at Royce. Went for the Dina LA menu, so 5 course meal for 99. Service and food were excellent. Would return. Highly recommended for Dine LA.
Food was excellent. Service could have been more attentive.
Great experience. Will attend again. The food was amazing and the service was great.
Went to The Royce as part of a staycation at The Langham, which is always an elegantly beautiful property. The last time we went to The Royce a couple of years ago, the food and service were truly outstanding. Not so, this time. The restaurant is still beautiful, but after almost 2.5 hours of sitting it it, even the beauty started to fade. The lobster bisque was excellent, and was served pretty quickly after ordering it, along with a pretty mediocre, smallish shrimp cocktail. But almost an hour later, our steaks arrived cold and undercooked and had to be sent back. As we waited another 20 minutes for them to return, we tried the giant baked potato, which was drenched in sour cream, as well as the artichoke, which was drenched in vinegar or lemon juice or some other extremely sour flavoring making it almost impossible to eat, and the creamed spinach, which was tepid in temperature and had so much garlic in it that it was inedible. The steak finally arrived back and was just okay. Still relatively undercooked (which made no sense given how long we waited for it), and totally under-seasoned. Had to ask for salt. $300 for a party of 3 (2 of whom were children) and an over 2 hour waiting (not dining) experience, kicks the value rating way down. Maybe it was just a bad night. But one that will keep us from returning any time soon.
Amazing once again!
The food, drinks, service and hospitality is by far the best and very genuine every time I come back there. Simon, the sommelier is lovely and charming as ever. Even getting to meet Chef Dominique Shelton was a pure treat!
Amazing place! Made my birthday special!
This restaurant is very romantic with great atmosphere. Our server Tim was extremely friendly, attentive, and super helpful. The food here tasted good.
The reason I gave this restaurant a 1 Star was mainly due to the disappointment I had in the manager and how he handled a situation. Here's what happen: The manager walked up to my wife and I and told us that there had been a couple of tables complaining that our baby was making loud noises (our baby is almost 1 & she's baby-talking). He suggested that maybe we could take our baby for a walk. We didn't want to ruin other people's dining experiences, so my wife and I took turns to hold our baby & take her for walks. He prefer give us inconvenince is perfectly fine. As we ate our food, there were loud giggling, laughs, loud conversations, and loud music playing from the private events on the other side of the room. It was so messed up because it's okay for other people to be loud and not my baby. When expressed my unsatisfactory to the manager, he only responded with just an okay. He did not apologize nor care about us. For the convenience when he first told us the complaints and we like whatever about the complaints. I am not sure if it has to do with my race - since my family was the only Asian party at the restaurant.
This place is definitely not baby-friendly unless your baby sleeps through your meal or in grade school. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone after this. Our dining experience COULD BE so much better if the manager could have apologized for the inconvenience. The manager doesn't care about his customer.
Dear AndyD, thank you for dining with us and for your feedback. As the manager, it is my duty to ensure the satisfaction of all guests, so when we have multiple complaints regarding another party, I must do my best to manage the situation. We welcome guest of all ages, and I regret that you feel the situation wasn’t handled properly, as our team works diligently to provide the unparalleled service for which we are known to all guests. Again, thank you for your feedback and your patronage.
Awesome birthday dinner ... love it the decor is amazing ; didn't feel rushed ..server was attentive, mangers kept asking if we were good and if we needed anything . I was very happy
"I love the relaxed feel and I definitely would return to try more dishes. The food was amazing especially the duck kale salad, the beet salad and the creme brulee. Service was great, well-timed and friendly.
The location was beautiful and the food was great! Really enjoyed the New York steak and the bread pudding was top notch!
Dining at The Royce Wood was such a wondrrful experience. They greeted us at the table by name and the service was outstanding. The cocktails were to die for! The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. Not an every day dining option, but definitely recommend for special occasions and a nice night. Out.
Nice Christmas dinner but overpriced for the offerings, which were limiting prix fixe choices.
We came here for the christmas dinner on christmas day — pre fix menu only. The restaurant was very nice and the hotel entrance and lobby were all decorated for the holiday. Our waiter was only all right, we were not offered any bread unlike the tables around us. The roasted heirloom carrots tasted very much like home varnish smells... would not recommend that salad at all. We ordered the rib eye and new york steaks they were pretty good however sometimes chewy. The overall experience was just all right, the food wasn’t bad but not worth $300 (145/ea). Maybe because we look young that the service wasn’t as great and didn’t make our experience worth $300 .. not even worth $200 for the two of us. Valet parking was good, easy pick up and drop off. Maybe go somewhere else instead for a christmas date...
Fantastic! Food was delicious and service was attentive.
The staff makes a huge effort to personalize the dining experience, taking time to talk to the customers and offer suggestions. They learn the customers names, and I'm amazed that not only my name is remembered when I return after months, but many of my preferences. They really go the extra mile to make the dining experience memorable. Combined with truly spectacular food, it is well worth the price.
Food, service and ambiance is very good. I gave it a overall 3 because of they require valet at the Lanham. When you are ready to leave, it takes 30 minutes to get your car due to various banquets and parties they have.
We have been going to Royce for years, dating back to pre-Steakhouse days when Chef Féau had awesome tasting menus. We continued going when they converted to a steakhouse formula, and used to think their steaks were some of the best in town.
Yesterday's visit may be our last. Prices have gone up quite a bit, especially on the wine bottles. But foodwise, I'm just no sure the quality is still where it used to be. My wife's medium rare was very rare, and the flavor on both of our $65 steaks was kinda bland and just not all that impressive. Pasadena has a lot of good steakhouses, and last night's visit at the Royce will make us go to these other spots a bit more often for a while.
We had a wonderful evening thanks in part to the excellent service received. Thank you.
Excellent service!! Food was good had my heart set on a larger steak.
Best steaks anywhere. Pricey but worth it. Crab cake and lobster bisque are fabulous.
pricey but nice; excellent wine list. her Kale salad was outstanding. steak and sides were done just right; very enjoyable; we dressed up but restaurant a little casual for the price point. service as excellent and attentive. we will go there again
Fantastic meal with great service equals a terrific experience. We used Open Table rewards points to make it special and it certainly was all the way around. Thank you Open Table and Thank you The Royce 😊👍
Noisy, lovely venue, wait staff forgot to serve an appetizer salad (which they later did when reminded). Prices of wine list selections were almost entirely priced for the royal family. Just a handful of selections <$150 either forcing you to pay a very high price or just avoid a wine selection entirely. The whole wine price thing was so offensive that I will go elsewhere for a nice meal in the future. The meal was good but not that good.
Exceptional Swordfish and loaded baked potatoes as well as Prime steak.
Awesome service and food! Great for that special dinner
Great quite date night for a couple that just wanted to try something different and got something more special then we expected
Sublime cuisine, examplary service. Airy and opulent setting
This had to have been one of the best dining experiences we have ever had! Everything about our evening was exceptional! From the moment we were, seated to our departure - flawless! To call our meal exceptional would be an understatement! I ordered the Australian Waygu Ribeye....cooked to perfection! Every single item that was placed at out table that evening, exquisite! It only would I recommend this restaurant, I would shout it from the mountain tops! ABSOLUTELY — GO!!!
Good food. Exceptional service, from valet, lobby and restaurant staffs. Our waiter was wonderful and attentive. Thank you!
The steak wasn’t very tasty. Much better the last time we were there. The service and atmosphere are great.
The food at the Royce is fantastic! Everything we ate was superb. Big kudos to the chef!
From the valet to the hostess to the wait staff, the attention we received was
Having been to the Royce several times, this was certainly the worst food experience.
The steak tasted of burnt garlic and was very chewy. (We ordered the porterhouse to share.)
Presentation of food was good. Just need better quality steak.
This is a tough one because so many things were done so well. The service, ambience, and a good portion of the food was first class. The exception was the steaks (...and this is a steakhouse). Four of the seven in our party ordered a different cut of meat (2 Greg Norman Wagyu ribeyes, 1 strip of the same, and 1 Brandt filet). The filet had to be replaced because it was such a poor piece of meat, and all of the others (including the replacement filet) were underwhelming to say the least. Tough and difficult to cut or chew. We ate at 4 steakhouses while we were in town. Ruth's Chris and Arroyo were tied for the best, and The Royce and The Derby were tied for a distant 2nd in terms of the food. The Royce could have topped the first two if the steaks had met the expectations established by simply reading the menu and looking around the room to soak in the setting. Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed our dinner and all the things that were well executed (service, vibe, most of the other dishes, etc). The steaks were why we came though, and in that regard The Royce made a poor account of themselves. Frankly, I suspect that none of the meat we were served was of particularly high quality. Not prime, and definitely not Wagyu. If I'm wrong, The Royce should cancel their contract with Greg Norman and Brandt, and just stick with USDA prime meat like their competitors that so greatly outperformed them relative to the steaks.
Good wine, great food, great service. I’m a vegetarian, the server suggested risotto, made with French butter and truffle, it’s was the best risotto I ever had.
I'm disappointed. Royce is a beautiful restaurant with elegant service. But, for being a steakhouse the quality of the steaks are not comparable to other steakhouses around Pasadena. We even sent back all 3 of our steaks ranging from a filet mignon, rib eye and Australian wagyu New York Strip which were supposed to be cooked medium rare, but instead were served more medium or medium well. The charring on the steaks seemed too much as well. We also had an issue with the side dishes. our spinach was overly salty and sent it back so it could be served with no salt, and the mac and cheese was not tender. The desserts were delicious though. We had the begnet and the peach cobbler. And coffee was also good. Overall, i'm hoping the Royce steps up their game. The venue is so great for this neighborhood, but I wish the food was on par with everything else. I'll stop by again in the future, but in the meantime I'll hit up the other neighborhood steakhouses.
Food was very good. The interior was very elegant. Overall great experience all around.
