The Rose & Crown
The Rose and Crown is a venue that is always incredibly popular especially on sunny days and our most recent visit was no exception. The team had clearly been working tirelessly all day but as always still had a smile on their faces and by nearly 6pm on a Sunday still had all bar two items available on the menu.
Looking forward to our next visit as always.
The pub was very busy but the service was still very good and the food was lovely.
The greeting, friendliness and service are better than any local competition.. The menu choices cover all tastes.. .. Sunday lunch is a manic time, causing our only problem of the roast being cold and was sent back for a ‘zap’ in microwave.
Will always come back whilst present manager running such an efficient and friendly pub..
Our visit was overall poor. We had to wait for such a long time to order drinks and food and then took ages to come. Prawn cocktail starter was not very nice and was not eaten. we had to ask where our main courses were. staff were clearly run off their feet and not enough of them for the amount of diners.
Very happy and contented experience . Our waitress were very friendly , efficient great quality food excellent service and environment. Would highly reccomend . Lovely choice of menu . Expensive but really worth the value.
Happy with the service and the meals. The manageress apologised for the slow service. They were short staffed. Yes, we had to wait a while for our food but it wasn’t a problem. We were chatting away and didn’t really notice the passing of time - I don’t think we left until well after 4.00. Nevertheless we were well treated by the staff and I am sure we will go back there again.
got desert and was told they had no desert spoons so we will have to eat our desert with a teaspoon. when we said that we should not have to pay for our deserts we where told we had finished them so we have to pay.
It was my birthday, so there were 9 of us. The restaurant is fabulous, the garden is amazing. The food was perfect and the service was first class. Staff were amazing. Will definitely be going back, highly recommend it.
Love the menu too. Not boring ‘pub grub’
Would not recommend at present as poor new menu- no fish except battered, no beef, pork or lamb dishes. More burgers and salads than anything else. Getting pricy.
Watch out for the service charge added, charged 15% on a group of five. The menu states that 12.5% will be added to groups of 6 or more and therefore presume 1 to 5 would be discretionary! Complained and had all service cancelled.
It was very very busy that evening as schools broke up for summer that day but waitresses worked very hard to please.
The bar areas were very loud and children in restaurant area noisy.
Main gripes- the poor menu and excessive service charged.
Delicious food. Young staff v efficient and attentive. Nice breaks between courses
Been to the rose and crown many times. Its a great all round pub. Good food, service and a large garden for the kids to run about. Ticks all the boxes for us.
I would probably try again one day. The tables were all full when we arrived. Long waits for some, with at least one complaint to management overheard by us.
I just don't think they were staffed in the kitchen to cope well with a full house.
Interesting menu, very modest portion of the hand made brisket corned beef hash, larger than a starter but not a main course size. My partner's fish and chips had chips only just cooked, rather too firm in the middle rather than fluffy, batter on a small thin piece of fish pale, oily and flabby - both an indication of a kitchen not coping and a head chef/waiting staff a touch indifferent to the quality delivered to table.
Sticky toffee pudding not sticky, spotted dick 4/10.
Maybe worth a visit on a weeknight...
Fantastic service good choice and great parking food lovely
Sunday in the sunshine. Always busy here but always able to accommodate. However food quality suffers when it is so busy. Reheated, dry and a little bit tasteless Sunday roast. I like it here cos its local and friendly but needs more attention as its the food that keeps this place floating.
Service was poor. We got all meals together. Something for a starter was not delivered at all, we went to ask for it. Waitresses were not professional, looks like students.
I’d recommend the Rose & Crown for a relaxed Sunday lunch. The food is good and there’s a nice atmosphere in the restaurant area. The service is very attentive too.
Not as good as others in the same chain. Noisy and with the atmosphere of a goldfish bowl. Menu was dull and unadventurous. Food was average at best. Serving staff were pleasant enough but knew nothing about the food or wine.
The food was quite good but unfortunately the burger was overcooked and dry. The service was not very good at all - untrained, disinterested teenagers who did not know the menu and were not bothered whether we enjoyed our meal at all.
We booked a table on line but when we got there, there was no sign of anyone seating guests so we chose our own table.... it was sometime before someone came along and asked if we would like a drink... we ordered at the same time as the service seemed slow for a mid week lunch...
We had a roast dinner but the vegetables were really hard.. I like firm but these were really hard!...
Lovely garden and outside space but not really impressed...
Fantastic home cooked food, friendly helpful staff...... great pub with lovely big beer garden
Food was excellent service was a little slow but it was a really sunny day and although we were indoors I think there were a lot of customers in the garden so it's to be expected. Our first time there but I would go again based on the quality of the food which was fab
Went for Sunday lunch and what a lovely afternoon we had! 2 adults and 2 young kids and we were very pleasantly surprised. The food was beautiful and good selection of drinks on offer. Kids were well entertained with the lovely garden area and play equipment. Will definitely visit again!
Decor bit grubby looking. Nice Manager. Chatty. Service bit slow but was busy in there so made allowances. Food nothing special but the fish & chips were nice. Good portions.
Perfect Sunday roast . Large portions with loads of very nice fresh veg . Lovely pub with great staff . So friendly and attentive. Well done !
This is a great pub for a meal out with friends or family. Service is great and the food very good quality
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and were well looked after by all the team thank you
The only reason the noise level was moderate is that we were sat next to a table of with a couple of infants and their owners. Otherwise, this is a civilised pub in terms of noise level.
The service here is consistently professional and friendly. We love the vegan fish and chips - the primary reason we come to the pub, but the beer's good too. Would be nice to have a vegan dessert.
The pub classics on the menu were all great, however the atypical menu features were not so good. Overall the staff, venue and service were all fantastic, would definitely come again but would stick with the core classics done perfectly.
Andy and his team are fabulous!!!
Nothing is to much trouble
They clearly were over booked.
Very disappointed as they hardly had any stock.
They didn’t have 3 drinks which we asked for southern comfort, Amoretto or corona.
Then we was seated to be told they didn’t have at least 6 things on the menu.
I understand it was super busy but a pub this size should be fully equipped for busy days.
The staff was so rushed off their feet I had to go to the bar twice to get a drink during my meal.
Food is reasonably priced and the quality is acceptable. Beer batter on fish was a bit soggy but rest of meal was okay. Difficult to find someone to get bill from afterwards.
Very nice staff who were very accommodating as I took my 97 year old Aunt and we were very well looked after
Food delicious good choice on menu vegetables cook perfect friendly staff
Great place for food with friends or family. Often visit the Chaser Inn which is further away but is part of the same group. Excellent roast dinners. Have never been disappointed. Fish and chips is great too !
Food was overall OK but the roast was not as hot as expected and the curry while tasty was on the small side.
Service was awful; no waiters around and no attempt to check if we wanted anything. We did want to desert but got fed up waiting for attention.
We complained, when we eventually found a waiter, and our concern seemed to be taken seriously but that didn't help us!
Had dinner at Rose and Crown on a Friday night, was not particularly busy but service was appalling. We asked for wine list which never appeared and had to ask for after 20 minutes of being ignored. Drinks took ages to arrive and had to ask to order food. Table was only set for two even though we had booked for three. Food eventually arrived but no cutlery or condiments offered. The evening continued in this vain unfortunately.
Very disappointed will not be returning.
Has the feel of a lovely old pub but the food of a great restaurant
Lovely evening with my husband and grandson. Service best I’ve experienced there food good as always. Going there tomorrow for my daughters birthday lunch
Excellent food , very attentive waiters, a bit noisy but nice to see families dining out together.
The food was nice but unfortunately they had no Prosecco!!! That’s like having no beer! The staff were apologetic but we felt this was unacceptable, especially when there is a supermarket just down the road, surely someone could’ve nipped out and bought some to tide them over until their delivery arrived, especially when they probably would’ve still made at least £15 profit on each bottle?
