Fantastic Sunday roast. Charlie, our waiter could not have been better. Great food, great value. Canadian friends loved the whole experience.
Sunday 9th June Walked out after waiting 1 hour 15 mins for our undercooked main course to arrive. Staff saying sorry did not make up for this disaster. A party of 30+ along with other diners just OVERWHELMED this place. Will be a long time before I consider going again after ruining our Sunday lunch. We paid for our starters and drinks then left.
It is upsetting to learn of your experience on Sunday. We did have a very busy lunch with a couple of large groups and we made a mistake with your table, for which I am very sorry. This is no excuse for any visit being spoilt due to delays in service. I will be discussing your comments with the team. We would hope to have another opportunity to put things right and that you would consider returning and allow us to give you the exceptional experience you should have received on your last visit
Staff were brilliant and handled our large party seamlessly
Have yet to be let down. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Great place to meet. We were 7.
We had to wait for some of our party to arrive, however, we enjoyed a pre dinner drink. Once all arrived we were swift to order but it took soooo long for the mains to arrive we were beyond caring. Staff were very attentive re drinks but food took so long. Especially as our order went in before a table of similar size to ours. Most dishes good but avoid: veggie cauliflower, ribs and fish n chips. All soooo Dry! No apols for delay. Everything +12.5% so not over the moon.
Absolutely delicious, friendly staff and a great Bloody Mary - will be back next time I’m in London.
My only complaint was that it was a bit noisy - maybe turn the music down a little as everyone needs to speak loudly to be heard about the noise
Very good food
Tasty, nicely presented food, friendly service, characterful building, decent wine list, excellent beer.
Fantastic food, accommodating with drinks requests and speedy service. What more could you want from a stylish gastro-pub? Highly recommended!
Lovely meal for a large group of us, something for all of us on the menu despite challenging dietary requirements, tasty large portions and good service
Excellent Sunday roast, particularly the pork was first rate. The normal menu is very good as well. It’s a local for us, we keep coming back again and again.
Very lacking in atmosphere for a Friday evening. Only 2 other tables with couples and quite a large area. The bonus was the fire as we were seated in front of it on a very cold evening.
You enter through an old pub, which has all the atmosphere of an old pub, decent a dark old staircase and suddenly you are in a warm, inviting gem of a restaurant. Intimate service, an open fire, excellent food just a stone's throw from The Angel, Islington.
Food and service generally good, but they had run out of the veggie roast and beef roast which was unfortunate. We chose the pub because of all day roasts.
it was my third time there for Sunday Roast. Right by my house and i really enjoy it.
Love the Peasant but our roast beef this time wasn't up to the usual high standard.
Excellent food and service! Sunday roast dinner is my favorite!
Lovely room and ambience but service was rushed. There was a bit of pressure on us to get on with picking our choices. This is a bit uncomfortable when you're meeting friends you haven't seen for a while and naturally you want to briefly catch up first. We were given an amuse bouche but as soon as it was put down they brought out the starters and went to take the amuse bouche away. The same thing happended again - as soon as the starter was finished the main course was came out. I had planned to go to the loo but didnt have the time! Don't know why they rushed this, there wasn't anyone taking the table after us and the restaurant was only a third full all evening. Staff need to realise that people want to have a breather between courses.
Eaten here many times. I would recommend it.
Pre-booked and expected to be shown to the upstairs dining room but were told this was closed. Allocated a table in the bar but asked to be moved as we could smell the water off the flowers on the bar. Got a really nice table and ordered our food. The portions were very large and the fishcakes and duck leg were delicious. The staff were very hands-on and helpful and we had a great evening after a slow start. We've been coming here for several years and will definitely be back in the future.
Sunday roast was excellent for both of us, a veggie and a carnivore. Very friendly place and good service... we're coming back.
We loved it so much we are coming back Sunday to try the roast
Everything was good. The food was a bit too mixed and my team prefers classics
Superior food, but maybe rather too much of it. The wine was adorable - the waitress too. It would have been good to have not had to drape damp coats on the back of chairs so a little bit of restaurateur-ism wouldn’t have gone amiss. The tables were lovely, in white linen and with well polished glasses. Yes, some of the attention to detail was excellent indeed. As for the food: the apple in the crumble was a touch hard. Starters great, but when it came to mains, The large portions a bit daunting. Otherwise, very fine and enjoyed all round. Loved the ambience; not too busy, perfect for good conversation among five. Well done The Peasant.
We had a pre-theatre meal here one Sunday lunchtime prior to going to Sadler's Wells Theatre. It was an inspired choice. Food was delicious and service excellent. The portion sizes were very generous. Would definitely book to go there again.
It was rather a disappointing pre ballet meal - the chicken wings weren’t at all nice - terrine was good
A wonderful roast dinner and pudding. Staff were fantastic and the ambiance in the pub was lovely. Never felt rushed or bothered by anyone, a brilliant evening, thanks. Highly Recommended.
First visit here on Sunday at 5pm with my daughter before the ballet at Sadlers Wells. Warm greeting, cosy charming old London pub. Really friendly helpful manager. Absolutely delicious roast dinner, huge portion! So pleased we came across the Peasant from researching online. Thoroughly recommend this pub - we'll definitely look forward to coming back!
So relieved when we entered the restaurant as the pub downstairs was so loud we could hear each other speak. The restaurant is lovely and cosy and the staff very friendly and helpful. My date's meal of a traditional turkey roast was lovely but mine was a disappointment. I decided to have starters - the terrine (which was extremely gristly) and the risotto cakes which were rather tasteless. The Jerusalem Artichoke soup though was delicious.
So all in all, great location, atmosphere and staff but food was rather lacklustre.
Very good making arrangements with manager or bar/pub beforehand and great expectations. A little confusion over which menu available but got there and so dietary requirements still accommodated with reduced menu. Lovely food but staff seemed a little distracted. Overall good and would book again either for a party or as a couple/with friends.
Everything was great during our group Sunday lunch! Fantastic food, service and great atmosphere! The only fault of the pub is that there is no baby changing facility and I ended up changing my newborn next to the sink in a tiny and cold toilet! Apart from that, I would strongly recommend it!
Great Sunday lunch in a cute environment. Food was delivered very quickly.
Had a lovely roast dinner here to catch up with friends. Good portion sizes and very fresh meat and vegetables with other trimmings you'd normally pay for with a roast.
A fantastic Sunday roast with a huge portion. Friends had other meals and desserts and they were also massive. We had dietary requirements and they were more than happy to accommodate.
Eaten here before. Being a vegetarian, the option is nice. There was a problem with the booking, as it took a short while to seat us. But it didn’t spoil the occasion. I would recommend it.
Great food and very Islington! Downside is food was tepid to warm and we sent one dish back to heat up.
At last we finally visited The Peasant for Sunday lunch. Great service good wine selection and our food was perfectly cooked. Highly recommended.
