Positives - Food was tasty and nice selection of teas. Dining area full of old world charm.
Negatives - poor service, had to request cream and jam for scones as it had not been delivered. Waiters not very attentive and two of them were actually having a loud conversation in a different language (argument ?) beside our table (we had to request them to be quiet !) One of the tea cups was cracked and we had to request a replacement.
Also - Toilet facilities are very far away from the dining area, so would not suit people with limited mobility.
I booked Afternoon Tea at The Plaza as a surprise for my 11yr old daughter during a weekend together in NYC. I assumed it would feel extremely special and luxurious and we both dressed up for the occasion. Unfortunately the setting wasn’t as expected, guests were allowed to wear shorts, t-shirts & sneakers - no dress code it seemed, the Palm Court was 3/4 empty and the furniture looked tired and a little scruffy. Young children were allowed to run around shouting and playing on the steps. Despite prebooking with dietary requirements they had no record of our reservation. We had one pescatarian and one gluten free New Yorker afternoon tea - the meat free Tea looked delicious and was apparently very good, however the gluten free sandwiches were virtually inedible- hard, dry & cold despite the bread looking as if it had once been toasted as it was burnt in patches. I was told this was how gf bread is - it is not!! The gf scones were very pleasant but were in fact banana muffins. The patisserie selection however was good. Without doubt the highlight of the experience was our waiter who was utterly charming, efficient and very sweet with my daughter- even bringing her a birthday plate and singing to her when we’d told him her birthday was in January!!?! Overall, at a cost of $200 I was disappointed in what I thought would be an iconic experience and would suspect there are many higher quality alternatives in this City.
Although the service and food were impeccable, I cannot recommend this place because it was too loud and the seating was odd. We went for afternoon tea and we were seated at an oddly long table for the three of us, and we were seated right behind the bar area! Odd. I couldn’t talk to the third person because she was so far away from me and it was so loud in there. It wasn’t the right atmosphere for a high tea. There are so many other places for tea in the city that have it all. This place is terrible. Don’t go.
Two of the glasses for water were cracked, one gust did not have a plate and there was no sugar in the sweetner bowl. It took forever to get served even though others came after we were seated. But the ambiance was delightful and the food was great.
Just do it
Beautiful for tea or any special occasion.
Our friends get together was wonderful! The Palm Court was elegant and old world. The tables settings, flowers and Tiffany ceiling were beautiful. Our server explained the tea choices and was helpful. The tea sandwiches were a bit disappointing. Egg salad? The scones and petite fours were delicious. We enjoyed our experience.
Beautiful venue with fantastic food and service. Will definitely be going again.
On a whim, we got reservations for the Palm Court at the Plaza in NYC. We've been there before for Champagne and Tea Lunch.
Today, we were seated and taken care of by Fariz. He brought our Tea and 2 flutes of Veuve Clicquot and 2 pots of Rooibos Des Vahinés.
Soon afterwards, we received our Sandwiches & Savories. Everything was perfect. And we sat and enjoyed the lunch and our bubbly and tea. As we were winding down our meal, Fariz walks up from behind me and starts singing Happy Birthday to me and presented a plate with 4 macarons and a candle and Happy Birthday written in Icing on the plate.
My birthday was a few days ago, however, we did not alert them to that when we made the reservation. I was totally blown away by this - at some point, I'd filled out something that had my birthday on it and they made our afternoon.
If you are looking to splurge and like tea, champagne, and finger sandwiches - go to the Palm Court and ask for Fariz - you'll have a great time!
High tea at The Palm Cerourt with my daughter and best friend from high school and her daughter was the highlight of our trip to NYC. The food was spectacular and ambiance so lovely. Servers too were terrific. It was a great experience. I do wish it was 10-15% less expensive though-- understand it is 'The Plaza' and all that goes with it but it is exorbitant given the meal.
I wanted so badly to love this, but it just wasn’t very good. Perhaps Monday is not the best day to go, but the sandwiches and cakes were stale and tasted like they had been sitting around for hours. To be fair, the tea was great, but I was more excited about the treats than the tea.
The service was okay, but it seemed like everyone was tired. The tea service was nice, but the sofas were covered in crumbs.
Just overall disappointing to spend $100+/person on afternoon tea for a subpar experience like that.
Service was brilliant - $12 for OJ was a little pricey
Fabulous experience and a fabulous iconic place. The staff did a phenomenal job helping our family celebrate our parents 50th wedding anniversary at the place it all started 50 years before on their wedding day. Thank you to the amazing staff at the Plaza Palm Court for making our day so memorable.
Overrated and overpriced... food was not fresh and bread very dry
Taking our niece for tea in New York from Texas. It was a wonderful experience.
Great venue, excellent service. Nice tea experience!
Really lovely experience, they made it extra special for our special occasion and the staff were lovely.
It was a neat experience. I was disappointed that I was not told that we could share the food and tea. It was only my daughter and myself and we were under the impression we each had to order our own. There was so much food wasted and had to pay an extra $49 too.
Fabulous - such a perfect place to have a lovely dinner. Best meal I’ve had in a very long time - absolutely amazing chicken!
It was very difficult to hear the waitstaff over the music playing plus the waiter had a thick accent that was hard to understand especially because he would not speak louder even when asked. The high tea food was great but the teas available were not explained & felt rushed when ordering. This was my second time to have high tea at the Plaza & the first time was very enjoyable. This time was disappointing.
Lovely surroundings with great staff. Impeccable service. Food lovely bot one sandwich was in slightly stale bread.
Enjoyed an afternoon tea with our young grand daughter where Eloise lived. Great atmosphere and attentive service, had very nice table in the Palm Court and delicious choices from the tea selected to sandwiches, sweets and scones on the tea towers.
Great experience overall particularly for our grand daughter and we enjoyed this very special occasion as well. A lifetime memory.
My daughter and I had the best time here! The service was amazing. The presentation was beautiful. She felt as though she was having an extra special day!!
The most incredible service and experience. Made our celebration one to remember!
Dream come true for me. Would go back again without a doubt. Thank you for making my birthday so memorable.
Fabulous experience - accommodated gluten allergy very well
Most lovely experience of our trip to NYC. Truly delightful.
Afternoon Tea was delicious and a lovely experience. Pricey for sure, but worth it.
I have always wanted to have tea at the Plaza and I was not disappointed. The service and presentation of our meal was outstanding--I am very glad I had this opportunity to take part in this iconic experience.
The Eloise tea was adorable and they went above and beyond to make my daughter feel special!
I know it's The Plaza...but even so, the price of lunch is slightly ridiculous.
I go to the Plaza for Tea every year on my birthday, and have been for the last 8 or so years, even if I'm by myself. This year, I was alone and they had a note it was my birthday and my goodness did the staff take care of me and make me feel special! Shout out to the lovely gentleman manager I can't remember the name of (6/25 at 2pm) who personally brought me a glass of champagne as well as my server Syed, manager Rina, and I the other manager Gianni (Giancarlo?). Thank you for helping make my day so special! It's why I keep coming back and have made the Plaza part of my birthday tradition :)
We had the most disappointing experience. We wanted to celebrate our daughters 5th birthday here, her name is Eloise and loves the books. I knew it would be expensive, but the food was terrible. Our poached eggs came out cold and undercooked. They forgot to put in the order for my sons pancakes and those didn’t come out until the rest of us were done eating. No apology or acknowledgement from the staff. They overcharges us on a few things, as well. It was a huge waste of time and money, I expected so much more. It seems that they only want to cater to their guests so if you’re just stopping in, save yourself the disappointment.
We especially loved our server, Fariz. He was very kind and attentive, and gave great recommendations
It was wonderful experience to dine at The Plaza... the waitress was nice and very kind, the food was delicious and also the not noisy enviroment full of beautiful sceneries.. I definitely recommend
My daughter and I went for afternoon tea. It was everything that I had hoped. My daughter is gluten free and their gf tea was delicious. The gf pasteries were beautiful. She did not feel like her experience was an afterthought as it can sometimes be. She loved it and so did I. I’d go back again.
