Delicious food, awesome cocktails, premium staff!
My spouse and I shared a very sizeable portion of the beet whipped ricotta appetizer which came with 5 slices of grilled bread - interesting and tasty. We were surprised that we also were given 4 warm fresh (scrumptious) rolls with honey butter which is served in advance of the entrees. The Chicken and biscuits entree was delicious but the meatloaf was too salty and/or spicy for my husband's taste. Martinis were generous pours and a reasonable price. I bring my own to-go container these days and took home a couple of the rolls and half of the chicken entree which we enjoyed the next day.
Went for Valentine's dinner, and unfortunately was seated in room adjacent to bar area, so got to hear everything going on in the bar which made having any quiet conversation a challenge. Food and service was great after a slow start. Would perhaps go back, but not on a fixed 3 course menu night which seemed like the overall price was high compared to sum of individual items on the normal menu.
Valentine’s dinner was absolutely amazing. The service was outstanding. The food was incredible, and the atmosphere was stunning. We are so excited we found this restaurant and definitely will return again.
Amazing food, great service.
Great as always and our friends are now fans, too!
Disappointed....we went in on Sunday expecting the brunch menu that is currently posted on both open table and their website, but we were told that they were not serving that menu currently. Others who were seated near us were also complaining about the menu. Menu had limited options. My husband ordered a chicken and biscuits dish that was described as similar to a pot pie... for $17. It lacked flavor, lacked chicken and was overloaded with pearl onions... we did not think it was worth the price charged. I had a bowl apple butternut squash soup that was good. Service was extremely slow; it appeared that there was only 1 server working and I counted at least 10 tables current. That did not include people seated at the bar; he was also the bartender. In the past, The North House has been consistently good, however, I’m not sure we will be returning anytime soon after this experience. Other restaurants in their area have returned to business as usual and original robust menus with happy customers and I encourage them to consider getting back into their previous routine and business and out of this “Covid vice” of limited menu choices and cutting back on staff. Just a thought
Perhaps the most uniquely Simsburyian (though it is located in Avon) dining experience you can get. Very classic, vintage, and professional through and through. A worthwhile testament to how traditional restaurants remain firmly superior to their modern counterparts.
The north house is such a fabulous restaurant . It’s warm and cozy . Great atmosphere with wonderful food . I can’t say enough good things about this fantastic spot . Staff are very friendly with outstanding service .
Nice ambiance and great food. The use of local farm ingredients definitely stand out. Try the cheesecake you won’t regret it.
New Year's Eve dinner? Delicious! Unexpected to find such a fine dining venue open under the conditions of COVID yet feel safe enough to enjoy an unhurried, elegant, scrumptious meal. Our server was cordial and paced our meal well. The Brussels sprout appetizer was the best I've ever had, the Ceasar salad was split between my guest and me with ease. I had a salmon entrée with a lightly seasoned cheese risotto and the freshest asparagus spears I’ve ever tasted. Kris, the house Pinot Grigio, was dry and not too sweet. Prosecco had to do for dessert although it would have been nice to have had it with a chocolate dessert but none was to be found on the menu. Only minor disappointment.
GREAT New Year's Eve dinner. Very appropriate spacing, amazing food and service.
This is a hidden gem! The food is top notch scratch prepared, extensive Wine List and great service. We've been there twice in 3 months.
This is our first time spend a major holiday at a restaurant, but with larger events being pandemically challenged we decided
to venture out. This classic restaurant always goes over the top to provide the best food and service and it was awesome.
Went for a friends birthday. Fireplace was on, waitress was friendly and food was delicious.
Just super as usual.
Such a beautiful setting and the food & service were outstanding !
It was excellent I’ve come to this restaurant many times and I will return again. The service was superb the food was as well.
Nice atmosphere, attentive staff and an ample selection of unique dishes.
Best place in town for dinner. Consistently great food and top notch service.
Our first time at The North House restaurant.
We arrived early for our reservation to cheerful hostesses and happy to seat us in the fireplace room. Very quaint, but not cozy as they are following the social distancing guidelines, otherwise very nice. I loved the stone walls and low lighting. Our server,Shelly I believe, was very sweet, kind and efficient. She brought us our water and so,e warm rolls that were wonderful. The food was delish. My husband had the butternut/apple squash soup, nice size bowl, he loved it, I tasted it and I liked it but a little too sweet for me. We both had the House Cesar Salad, very fresh, crispy, ribbons of Parmesan cheese and delish Cesar dressing, which was a large bowl, enough for two. We shared the angus steaks, garlic mash potatoes, roasted onions and mushroom. Everything was cooked to perfection. We left stuffed. We will return with our out of town company.
Always fantastic :)
Excellent service, good tasting food.
Meals were great. Nice to be able to eat outside. Waitress was super.
Dining outside on the lower outdoor patio was an unexpected delight on an unseasonably warm evening. Although the heated lanterns were at the ready, they were not required! The salmon dish was cooked perfectly as were the Brussels sprout and beet salad appetizers. The house Pino Grigio was a fine addition to the fish entrées. Only wished for a chocolate option as one of the six dessert selections. Service was superb and well paced.
We've dined at the North House numerous times. It's great for a crowd in non-pandemic times and small groups as well. Saturday night was Halloween and although we were there early, it was very quiet and we were seated in the forge with a roaring wood fire in CT's oldest wood burning fireplace. It was cozy and only one other table was occupied while we were there. The wait staff had even dressed up a bit for Halloween to liven things up.
We had looked online at the menu. They have not updated the offerings as items we were looking forward to possibly ordering, were not on the current printed pandemic menu. There was just the one menu --not dining room and tavern as separate on different sides of a page, but a bit merged. We understand supply chains have been limited for restaurants and the like. My suggestion would be that they try to update, including dessert. I was looking forward to chocolate layer cake and there was no chocolate of any kind. I understand the pastry chef was going for seasonal.
The food was good and sizeable portions. It was a nice evening for us.
My husband and I went to the North House for brunch on a Sunday. The menu was limited because of Covid, but the choices were good. We had our heart set on eggs (brunch) and were told the brunch will start in a couple of weeks. We were both hungry and ordered off the limited menu, and the food was fabulous! This restaurant never disappoints; the service is exceptional, and the food delicious. We will go back again, especially when the brunch starts!
Nice heated outdoor seating. Although to have cushions on a metal chairs would be nice!
Service was excellent. We ate outside, which was nice to have this option. We also appreciated the heating lamps.
Great night out with family. Food & service were good.
My wife and I love The North House. Never a bad meal. Highly recommended.
North House ALWAYS delivers a great meal with the service to match. Special care taken for social distancing and careful and thoughtful service by the staff. Perfect 10, thanks to North House kitchen and staff.
Everything was perfect in this social distancing distancing environment that we were dealing with
Danielle was a great server! I think I called her Darlene after two perfect perfect Manhattans!
We had another outstanding evening at The North House last week. The meal and the service were both impeccable. They even brought us two glasses of Prosecco (no charge) since they knew we were celebrating our anniversary. We have eaten in the dining room and in the bar during happy hour a number of times and have never been disappointed!
We had a great dinner at the North House. Food and service was excellent. Ambiance was peaceful. Will definitely go back there again. Highly recommended.
Ok but not outstanding.
We loved the food and our waitress.. only issue was the booth table to seat was a bit tight for a bigger guy.. defiantly need to make more room in the booths
It was a unique dining experience with innovative dishes. Loved the food!
WONDERFUL! we ate outdoors, it was a gorgeous night; and the outdoor dining area at North House is really fantastic. You feel like you're sitting in a garden patio, and the tables are spaced apart so it feels very safe and comfortable. Our server was lovely, and the food was delicious.
I wish I had known how great a job North House is doing with their outdoor dining, I would have been there more often this summer!
Hoping that with the heat lamps we can enjoy this gem through October
