The only criticism was a couple on the table next to us smoked continuously throughout our meal and when you are a nine smoker it is not pleasant

My food was cold, it was replaced but the replacement dish was burnt and inedible so I didn’t eat as my husband had finished his meal before my second arrived. The staff were lovely but it was not a great experience.

Outside dining due to restrictions but heaters not fully functional. So very cold in the evening.
Food average. Building work inside venue! A lot of dust everywhere.

Disappointed in choices of main courses so had to starters/small plates which were much more enticing. Staff were very helpful. Wouldn't rush back though.

Found this little gem while out on a walk around the city walls. Has a great secluded garden with plenty of umbrellas to keep the sun or the rain off you. Friendly staff and good food. Will visit again when next in York.

Very very loud building work. Did not stay to eat, was extremely off putting and not at all relaxing... which is what you’d expect.

Firstly why change the name "the lamb and lion" is a far better name than "the fat badger" which sounds more like a Weatherspoons pub.
We arrived in the ouside garden to circular saws and angle grinders, we were asked by a member of staff what we would like to drink, I asked for a pint of draught IPA which after 5 mins turned out to be unavailable as they had no bar due to the refurbishment (surely this should have been known by the staff).
All in all it wasn't the best time I've had here. Dissapointed.

Very pleasant beer garden. Excellent service. Efficient well placed heaters. Full-cover fixed umbrella at each table, fortunately not required. Very tasty chunky chips. Sensible prices. Almost faultless for a gathering with friends,

Great outdoor garden area with the best view of the Minster. Large parasols and heaters to assist the 'Great' British weather out.
Staff were lovely and helpful even when being drenched one minute and tanned the next.

Delicious food, much appreciated beef for my dog and friendly service. Only downside was the tables were quite close together but understand that it’s important to get enough covers as possible in the current circumstances.

Lovely place to sit and eat and drink. Service was good but the food was at best average. I had fish and chips - all quite greasy. Tiny amount of mushy peas. Tartar sauce was clearly not homemade, it was runny, not chunky as it should be. It would not stop me returning but I would think twice about eating there again.

Good food, quick service on drinks but had the table until 9pm and got rushed to pay the bill at 8:40 even though we wanted to order another drink so felt we had to leave and put a damper to the end of a celebratory evening....

We booked a table for drinks and food during covid restrictions- lovely outdoor space, mostly covered with table umbrellas, some patio heaters. Service very attentive and efficient. Ordered burgers which were rather underwhelming but ok. Drinks priced reasonably, we will return as outside space was lovely, we will probably eat elsewhere next time but certainly recommend for drinks and fabulous service in lovely surroundings

After this service I question why we go out to support local bars and restaurants.

When seated at our table the waitress tried to put the heater on but was out of gas and said she would get her manager to change the canister. Cut a long story short after asking another 3 different waitress nothing was done. If someone had just come and said it was broken then that would have been ok but no.

We had 50minutes left on our table and to be fair we would have stayed for another 2rounds if the heater would have been sorted.

Shocking

Terrible food, “rare beef in warm ciabatta” beef was cold and well done in a dry cold ciabatta that was not toasted.

The main positive was the lovely staff, very apologetic (even though it wasn’t their fault) and offered us free drinks whilst walking about wet through in the horrid weather. The staff credit to the place.

Went for a lunch to celebrate a friend's 60th and despite having to eat outdoors (Covid rules) in appalling weather we had a big table umbrella and a nearby heater, and the staff did an amazing job of keeping cheerful and friendly despite being obviously chilly and damp!!

Looking forward to going back in warmer, dryer weather as this pub has a lovely beer garden situated alongside the City walls of York and is a favourite destination.
