The Grill on the Alley - Chicago
Since opening in June 2000, this high-end steak and seafood house has made its mark on Chicago with locals, and tourists alike. The Grill has become one of the most popular places to gather for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all types of special occasions. Located on the floor level of the Westin Hotel, The Grill on the Alley is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Chicago with easy access to the McCormick Place Convention Center, shops, museums and theaters.
What a major disappointment. The entrees are very expensive, yet, there was nothing extraordinary about the meal. My wife ordered salmon and it was very dry and over cooked.
Normally, when you order a bottle of white wine, the waiter asks if it needs to be chilled and will periodically check to see if the glasses need to be refilled. Not here. Another example of substandard service was when my wife and I ordered a shared dessert. We were expecting the server to bring smaller plates so we could each take a portion without reaching to the center of the table. Again, there was no attention to detail.
An excellent choice for Saturday night, or any night. The bar is causal with the usual array of televisions, and the large seating area offers some intimate booths. The food is very good. We’d come back again to sample more of the choices.
A hidden gem. The perfect place when you want to talk to your guests. The service is attentive and respectful. A gluten-free request was managed with great care, actually sharing the ingredients list with the guest.
Brussel Sprouts were undercooked and frankly unchewable. Mashed potatoes felt burnt. Filets were really good, though.
Had two of my grandchildren with us and they don’t like anything, but both really enjoyed their dinner
It was great. There were some delays but It was very refreshing for them to acknowledge and take off from the bill. I will definitely come back more often.
we love this place. always wonderful food and service. great menu. it is a neighborhood gem.
Food wasn’t that good. Steaks came out and went back and came out again not as requested. Food didn’t taste freshly made. More like premade and heated up. Service was excellent though. Made up for the kitchens lack of quality. Overpriced for the quality. Eat out often and know quality. This wasn’t there. The management made up for it with discounting the bill. Just being honest with the quality and great service.
Great atmosphere and family friendly. That's always a plus because son is a pretty active kid!
Our meal was delicious and the server was very kind and knowledgeable - overall great experience!
We love this place because they do all they can to accommodate our every need. The food and service are consistently great. The atmosphere is quiet and great for conversations. It is a fabulous place with fabulous food.
The chicken pot pie is fantastic, but it's huge..much better to share with a friend and get a salad to share as well. So rich and decadent!
Great service. Delicious food. Great place. Can't complain...
Great place, great service, very clean, polite servers, great location.
Love the breakfast the best. Fresh food.
The appetizers were really great we had the spinach dip and crabcakes. But our entrees feel short. The chicken dishes and the creamed spinach were a little salty and then the bread that they have with your appetizer was super hard and the butter wasn't soft and was garnished with salt.
Easter Brunch had a great selection
Wide selection of food and wine and specialty drinks, great ambiance, great service.
terrific service! quality food and appropriately priced.
Our experience was great, food delicious large portions. Service was terrific!
WE had a party of 9 including an infant. the whole staff was very accommodating and the food was excellent
Old world charm roomie linen
Table cloths a great time
I have always loved dining at The Grill on the Alley. I ate there on consecutive nights this week as it was in the lobby of the hotel I was staying at. The service was and always has been terrific. The quality of the food is superb. Everything I had and what my friends ordered was great: Wedge Salad, Filet, Whitefish, Chicken Piccata, Cheeseburger and of course Key Lime Pie!
Great spot for lunch on Michigan ave
As always, the service was impeccable, the dinner was great.
Tomahawk porkchop was prepared perfectly!
CeCe was an awesome waiter! He and the team made the experience for us. We will be back and we will recommend you to our friends. Thank you
Very disappointed that you have decided to discontinue the prime rib on Friday nights. We used to plan our visits with guests specifically on Friday nights.
Thank you for making our lunch so very pleasant. A corner booth along with the server's respect for our conversation while also doing an outstanding job timing our food made this possible. The trout is a favorite. And, although I have been there before I had never taken time to enjoy the beautiful artwork - don't miss this along with the great food.
Our server was Bridgette, and she was fantastic, funny, engaging, and made great suggestions. The supporting staff were also attentive and helpful. It was a little warm in the restaurant, but the smbiance was otherwise casual and elegant. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food. The calamari appetizer was a touch under seasoned, but tender and crispy. The steak tartare was awesome! I would go back just for that. The lamb and pork chops were both delicious and well-cooked. Pasta and fish dishes were both delicious and cooked correctly. The ribeye was medium instead of rare, but too delicious to send back. As many other reviews stated, the ruby red lemon drop martini is a must try. We would definitely go back, especially for appetizers and cocktails.
Better place for lunch than dinner. Quite pricey for the overall experience.
I celebrated my birthday at The Grill on the Alley. Amazing staff and food. Would highly recommend.
The chicken pot pie was amazing!!!! We sat in a corner booth and it was quiet so we could hear our conversation.
Ginger pear martinis are great! Food is fantastic.
Ourv server was very helpful and attentive to our desires. Very tasty and generous portions.
Great New Years Eve dinner!
Had a great Christmas dinner there. The prefix menu was filling! . Our server was awesome with tons of personality.
Food and service were good. Pricy, but good location . Fish was fresh.
We have been coming to this restaurant for years -- particularly during the Christmas Season. The Grill on the Alley is a very nice restaurant located in the Westin Michigan Ave. The service is good and the staff very friendly. Unfortunately, the food has become average and the prices are very high. So, the value is not good.
The Grill might pass as a good restaurant for convention groups, but if you live in Chicago as we do, there are so many wonderful restaurants where the food is excellent, that there is really no reason to go to an average restaurant like The Grill on the Alley. We will not return.
We came to the Westin and reserved three rooms to come and celebrate a birthday and go to the theater. Given the prime Michigan Ave. location and prices, the food was average at best. There was a shell/tail in the lobster mac and cheese, and the majority if our meal was just warm. Our server was great, we wouldn’t recommend The Grill to any of our friends.
Service was extremely slow. The Sparkling water was luke warm, Not room temp ,WARM. Waitress says "yeah were going thru it like crazy". Never offered smaller bottles which were cold or offered to chill 9it on ice. Room temp, Very very warm. Asked for more bread, never got it. Left my soup because it was too salty, waitress picked it up and asked if I was thru with it. Never asked how it was nor why I hardly ate any.
The cocktail ordered was wrong, she stated she didn't hear what was asked for. I got up and went to the bar myself to rectify because she was no where to be found. All and all it was terrible.
