Nice food, nice staff and lovely garden. Bit of a shame limited beer and short staffed but to be fair I think the glorious weather caught them out as it seemed everyone had the same idea! Well done for coping.

Lovely pub in beautiful location; the garden is very pretty. Unfortunately, didn't feel welcomed by the staff, they didn't seem interested in serving us - not sure if that was because we weren't regulars as other tables seemed to receive attention in abundance. Seated at the table without menus or drinks for some time, we were going to look online for the menu to order as no staff seemed keen to approach us. Eventually managed to order drinks, starters and main course; 55 minutes later the manager came over as it appeared our order has not gone through to the kitchen. He was apologetic, and rushed our order through. Food was OK, but quite expensive for what it was but our drinks cost was removed from the bill so the price without this was reasonable. Wouldn't return I'm afraid due to the unwelcoming atmosphere, didn't make for a pleasant experience.

Food, as always, was excellent. The apple and rhubarb crumble finished the meal off beautifully.

The Fighting Cocks accommodated my request for a quiet table. Food was good, beer was good. Selection of Real Ales, one from a local brewery (Iron Pier) which is good to see. Curry was spicier than normal.
Service was attentive and unobtrusive. Will definitely be going again.

We met friends for lunch, they had visited the Fighting Cocks before, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The service was excellent, and the conservatory, where we sat was lovely and light.

We had a leisurely meal and finished with coffee in the bar.

Altogether a lovely afternoon.

Had a problem getting into the restaurant through the bar areas people had arranged the tables in a manner where there was little room to get passed them.On leaving same things had to move 2 chairs to get my disabled wife through the bar.

The portion size of the pies ate a lot smaller than they used to be. Also not as tasty as the old Mrs Manning pies.

A lovely Sunday lunch.. we were worried we couldn’t get a booking until 4 as thought all roasts would be over but not the case. Topside of beef, gammon and lamb all good quality as were the veg. Friendly staff too, nothing too much trouble. Great grounds for families too

Food was very good also the service considering how busy it was.
However the food was not hot and the roast potatoes were not the usual quality

Lovely Sunday roast as always, they'd run out of cauliflower cheese which was disappointing as its so delicious. Took a while to get drinks at the table but it was busy as always so to be expected.

Despite these minor things, we had a lovely afternoon and can't wait to return.

Very pleasant staff. Perfect table in the Conservatory with 180 deg view of the gardens for people watching. Food and drinks good value for money. Slightly awkward access down a narrow corridor in to the disabled toilets. Limited disabled parking.

Currently having work done but had some very noisy people shouting across their table. Saw a couple ask to be moved. Food was quite greasy too. Hopefully a one off as I've eaten here loads and it's normally great.

Stayed nearby in a b&b so walk to the local pub , I booked a table online and it came across as I much larger restaurant by the Riverside but you actually just sit at a table in the bar , that was fine didn't see any river but the bar was cosy home cooked food was good and had a lovely evening . Nice gardens as well to sit outside and have a drink , would definitely go back if in the area

It was a very lovely place to eat, my only complaint was that we ordered champagne and it wasn't cold, (it was served in a wine bucket so it improved the longer we left it there), and if I want to be technically correct it wasn't opened at the table!!..... based on that they're probably not used to having champagne requests, but at £52 a bottle, I think they should at least put one in the fridge just encase!

Visited for Sunday Lunch...was perfect. Lovely beef, fresh vegetables, crispy but fluffy potatoes and a giant Yorkshire! Couldn’t have been better. Beer is reasonable priced too. Great beer garden and dogs welcome. Even though you have to use plastic glasses outside they are proper ones and not single use. Great afternoon!

Having a bit of a face lift in the bar area I think, nice and bright, lovely staff. The food is really lovely. The roast is excellent and great value, the roast lamb was the best I’ve had in a while. We sat the garden after our meal as it was a lovely day, the bbq was on and that looked great also. Would highly recommend a visit.

The food was fantastic & very good value. It was a shame the service was unusually slow. I arrived about 10 minutes later than the rest of of our table due to an accident on the A20. They had all ordered drinks & we’re looking at the menu. Nobody came & asked me what I’d like to drink despite being shown to the table. I waited for about 10 to 15 minutes & eventually caught the waitress’ eye & ordered a drink. The same happened with our meal & our dessert. We had to call the waitress over to order. Also we weren’t offered another drink. I appreciate it was fairly busy but felt that we were just being left. Having said that we had a lovely meal & will definitely return as I’ve been many times before & the service was good. Hopefully the waitress was just having an ‘off day’

Clean, Comfortable and friendly environment. Slightly noisy as their was a large birthday party in the main dining room. Menu was different from previous visits but interesting. The quality of the food was very acceptable, but not generally outstanding, except for the beef bourguinon pie, which was rated as scrumptious!!!

Friendly service but waited nearly an hour for our food. Main restaurant was very noisy with big groups but we were seated in the entrance section, which although not having the same ambience, meant we could hear what each other were saying. The menu had been changed that day and differs from the one online slightly.
I’m afraid for me the pies are no longer extraordinary - packed with meat but the pastry was very average.
Overall a good restaurant to which I will return because of the ambience and friendly service.

Beautiful pub with a large beer garden. The restaurant is not that big but you can also eat in the bar itself. I was there on a Sunday and the roast is superb and good value. Afterwards a couple of drinks in the beer garden watching kids playing it even taking a walk by the river. They were also serving burgers etc from a BBQ in the garden. Wonderful family place.

Booked a table for my wife and I on Saturday (13/7) lunchtime and was surprised to find the restaurant almost empty, although it must me said that it was quite a nice day and there were a fair number of people who must have arrived after we did and were sitting at tables outside. Both our meals were average. Most disappointing was the prawns in our prawn (and avocado) cocktails (served in half-pint jugs??). The prawns were small & chewy leading me to suspect that they had been frozen and de-frosted too quickly. Beginners' mistake!
It was only our second visit to the pub and whilst we like the venue a great deal we won't be hurrying back because of the standard of the food.

The food here was absolutely delicious. For that reason I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

When I made reservations for this restaurant I did so based on the online mention of having a vegan menu. This restaurant does not have a vegan menu. There was one vegan option for the starter course. This was asparagus made with the vegan option which means it's actually a non-vegan dish with option to be modified for vegans. It was very good. I would recommend the asparagus.

For the main course I believe there was one vegan option which was a curry dish. This is what I ordered and it was very good. We were also told they could make a couple of the other dishes vegan. One was a mushroom burger minus the cheese and one other that I don't remember. And of course there was also a salad.

The woman who was tending bar when we first arrived was very nice and was quick to serve us our cider. It was more difficult getting two glasses of water after we were seated at our table. When mentioning 15 minutes later that we were still waiting for our water, our waitress appeared annoyed.

Our food was prepared and served within a reasonable amount of time, and again it was very tasty.

The restaurant atmosphere was welcoming and there were a number of families dining the evening that we ate here.

The Seniors Lunch menu is really good value and offers a good choice. The a la carte also offers a really good selection at sensible prices. Good service even on a very busy day.
