The Cricketers Inn
Very busy on a Sunday so may be a bit slow for some people. Roast dinners quite expensive. Drinks on the dear side for out side the city.
We eat here regularly. Xmas birthdays and just pop in if passing randomly and you are always made welcome
The waiting staff were very good however the service was very slow
We ordered two sirloin steak and a quarter of each was gristle, it was supposed to be quality meat, we were both very disappointed.
The cheesecake desert was dry and bland
I don’t mind paying good money for good food, sadly this was not.
Lovely pub, very welcoming and inviting, good atmosphere. Menu varied, suitable for quite a few dietary requirements. The service and staff are great.
Definitely will return and recommend.
I came a few years ago and had the best experience and have been telling everyone about it, I finally got to come back on Valentine’s Day after talking to my partner about it for ages. I was so disappointed, the food ‘award winning’ fish and chips was bland and the batter was soggy. The service was shocking, we waited 40 minutes for desserts and had to ask twice for them, I had to ask for the bill and then she left it with us for a further 20 mins I finally walked up to get with the money and asked for change and she proceeded to serve another customer whilst we waited again for our change.
The waiter was fantastic, he was a large man with a big black beard. Really nice.
We enjoyed our Valentine’s Day meal here but I thought they could have more a little more effort to decorate the tables etc. Even a small red rose on each table and maybe some red napkins.
The waiter was very polite and tended quickly and efficiently to our orders. Other waiting staff were efficient also. Didn’t wait too long for food and was nice when arrived 7/10.
The room was too dark while dining. Other than that would eat here again but not for a special occasion.
Excellent! Just the job for entertaining friends who you don't get to see enough of!!!!
Really good as ever. Service was a touch slow but we were in no hurry
Hair found on poached egg but immediately sorted with new meal and sincere apology. 2 yapping dogs under the next table were irritating though. Excellent service and the food (hair aside!) was lovely.
Despite it being very busy and noisy we had very good and friendly service.
The menu was dreadful, with no respect for the diner, only “using up leftovers “ or burgers. Only one good dish on the menu. This is a chain of restaurants that should be producing outstanding food
Have been here a number of times and it's been much better. The service was really slow, the food was good - not great as it's been before. Two of us ordered the sirloin beef and two ordered roast beef. No difference in the meat - just the price. Very disappointed.
The waiter went over and above to be nice - so he deserves a pat on the back. He didnt get a tip though because there was already a 12.5% service charge added. Without that he might have got more!
A bit disappointed to be honest and wont be going back for a while.
Shame as it is a sentimental place for us.
We had a lovely time, lovely food and staff very attentive, would definitely go back again.
Usual welcoming, knowledgeable staff who are friendly & accommodating.
Chairs are rickety & uncomfortable.
Superb selection of drinks.
Great choice of food. Good to see daily menu.
We had roast beef. It was ok. Potatoes were luke warm & meat was hard to chew.
Dessert was absolutely lovely. Decent portions too.
Overall I would recommend but maybe not a roast in latter part of day.
Enjoyable lunch with family. Good good, tasty and well presented. Very busy but waiting staff were very efficient.
A wonderful setting. The food was tasty and presented to a high quality
Really friendly staff, good food and the very best choice of gins.
Felt it was good food ,good choices
Good service. Every thing was good
But is now not as good value . So many are offering a very competitive fixed price menu. Pricing seems so much than your others in chain. We ate a Chaser which was less money
Great food, staff were attentive timely, and friendly.
Great welcoming atmosphere with a candle lit dinner, bonus points for free on site parking with plenty room and same day booking availability!
Had a lovely visit. The first of the new year. Food was great and service efficient, friendly and quick.
Great food and atmosphere. Fantastic time had by all!
Very nice all round, couldn’t have asked for more
We've always found the food a little bit and miss at The Cricketers and this time's experience was just the same. All of the starters were good, unfortunately for the mains it was somewhat different - the Beef stew was excellent however my husband's peri-peri chicken burger was very very dry as was my friend's partners steakburger! We didn't have any deserts, just coffees. The service was fine, although the waitress did remove the wine glasses from the table without asking and then had to bring some more glasses back when ordered out wine!
Another nice dinner, squeezed in between Christmas and New Year.
Great food and service
Lovely food great service nice atmosphere highly recommended
Wonderful meal, once again. Three of us visited on Christmas Eve and had a table at the centre of the room which we thought would feel a little odd, but actually it was fine. As our other visits here, the staff were friendly and the right amount of attentive (even though they were very busy), and the food was gorgeous (peri peri burger, turkey burger, farmhouse pie, 2 x banoffee pies, treacle sponge) and we just had a lovely meal.
The pub was very crowed and table were too close together. Waiter having to ask my daughter to put her chair in to get past. With more consideration to client rather than seeing how many tables they can ram together would go along way. Food good but lighting was poor. Very noisy.
Such a lovely place to spend time whether it be dining or just having a drink. The service is fantastic and the food is very delicious.
Very Christmassy. Staff behind bar friendly. Daily special menu had added choices. Our party had the fish and chips, shin of beef and the catch of the day. All of which were delicious ( maybe the chips were not the best- tasted re-heated) but we would return to sample other dishes in the future.
A very nice seasonal atmosphere. We really enjoyed the food and the service was very good.
The only thing that stopped this being 5 stars was where we were seated, we reserved a table even thought it was a very quiet lunchtime and were seated by the kitchen and cellar doors. this turned out to be a bit noisy. If we hadn't booked we could have chosen a window seat which would have been better.
A very enjoyable Sunday lunch. Good food and good value. Recommended
Food was lovely.... Services was brilliant...will definitely visit again.
Lovely Sunday dinner, been here a number of times and never been dissatisfied. Highly recommend.
We have been here twice now for Sunday roast. It doesn't disappoint, great food cooked nicely good choice of meats too. I had a gin fizz which was delicious.
Service was poor, waited ages for menus for dessert! Two of the girls waiting we’re not very attentive, Shame as one seemed to know this was a problem! It’s a joke really as service charge was added! Food was over priced and the sharing Camembert was tiny, like the smallest cheese size! Not enough for two people! The £25 lamb was also disappointing as the red cabbage was burnt from reheating! Such a shame as this used to a favourite local!
Excellent food better than expected would recommend
Always a lovely place to have a nice bite to eat or drink in a beautiful setting and ambiance. Food is a little over priced by a few pounds in my honest opinion on a few dishes, it’s a shame as I would visit a lot more regularly. But food is always great and very well cooked but expected at that price. We had the special onion soup which looked like it was missing half the liquid and onions needed sweating/cooking down a bit more, again due to the price my expectations are higher. My wife had the fish special which was cook perfectly and I had the burger which had amazing flavours and a perfect char to the meat
Top notch food really good staff, very busy but still was cosey
Booked through open table and on arrival my name was on the table. Service was good and food was very good. Enjoyed our meal with friends
I’ve been here a few times and always felt pretty much the same. Foods decent enough but overpriced. Not by much but enough, what you’d be happy paying £15 for you’ll pay £18.
From this visit specifically the service wasn’t great for a table of 8, just seemed too much for them.
Also avoid the treacle and syrup sponge, nasty pre packed awfulness. And as fir the vegan custard thats hideous. How hard can it be to have dairy and non dairy custard for gods sake.
Save your money there are plenty better in the area.
