Another fantastic experience. Food , service and atmosphere is everything you can look for in a rustic/refined dinning experience. Come here after work for some great drinks, savory dishes and awesome staff.
The Cookery is one of our favorite spots. It’s always excellent whether you’re at the bar or a table. The food is innovative, funky and delicious . The service is outstanding and very knowledgeable in regards to the menu.
You cannot judge a book by its cover. We all know that. Upon walking into The Cookery I was taken aback by how casual it seemed. I guess I was expecting something a little more formal. I was not deterred. I always judge restaurants on the quality of the food. I knew from reviews that I had read that I was in for something different. We were seated immediately and went to work perusing the menu. I honed in on what I wanted right away. I knew that I wanted the Pork Osso Buco and the Chicken Liver Parfait. Needless to say I was not disappointed. The food was sublime. This was a meal to be savored and enjoyed very slowly. I took small bites so that the flavors could be enjoyed longer. My date had the Fried Octopus and the Branzino. Both were declared to be excellent. I am looking forward to returning to try some other items. I would highly recommend the Cookery. You will be in for a rare treat.
Cookery in our experience is always delicious. Only drawbacks are they typically run out of specials very early in the night, and it is a really loud place. Service and food are great though!
The Cookery is a restaurant we like to frequent. Oftentimes, we order the same items - mozzarella and Osso Buco. However, this time, I went for the scallops ceviche and was not disappointed. Their cocktails are also really wonderful.
Sweet, savory, super interesting dishes and just the right amount! We can’t wait to come back and try other dishes. Great staff, great drinks. We loved it.
Three of us tried three different pastas. All were heavily salted. Starters were fine, drinks very good, service terrific and we really liked the atmosphere. But the salt....
We had to wait for our table for 30 minutes. While the manager did bring us an appetizer and an apologize once we sat down. It felt like that was a little late.
Loved everything about The Cookery. It was great
Loved it. Everything was delicious. Have already shared with friends and recommended they try !!
We had a summer Friday early bird dinner here at 5. So delicious. You would not assume it from the outside, but once you enter it’s a surreal food journey of the most tasteful kind!
What a fabulous experience tonight at The Cookery. The service was superb , the cuisine is authentic, unique and fresh; also very hearty. Make sure you go hungry! This place will not disappoint.
Amazing food with a fun atmosphere and staff. Definitely a place to frequent
This was one of the most dismal dining experiences I can recall having in a very long time, and we were very inclined to enjoy ourselves since it was our anniversary. I went in as my husband went to park, and although I was seated, I was not given a food menu, just one for drinks. The waitress put tepid water on the table, and no ice in the glasses. After my husband was seated, it took quite a while to give drink orders and longer to get our drinks. We finally asked the busboy for menus. We ordered the bread and ramp butter, which was much the best thing we ate there. We gave our food orders, and I ordered a glass of wine and my husband a beer. Our appetizers came along with my wine, and my husband finally had to ask for his beer. His octopus was mush and garnished with the end piece of a raw canned tomato. My meatballs were so mushy that I had to scoop them; they fell apart if you put a fork into them. The menu plays fast and loose with Italian culinary terms like mostarda and vincotto, which bear no resemblance to the real thing. My fusilli fra diavolo were overcooked, not spicy, and seemed to have been made with tomato paste, so thick and unpleasant was the sauce. My husband’s pork shank was tasteless, and the polenta underneath was cold. When we asked for our check with pretty much all the food on our plates, the waitress asked what was wrong, and the management removed the octopus and pork shank from the bill, which was the right thing to do. However, despite that reduction, this whole dismal experience still cost us $100. It was a complete waste of money, and not a pleasant way to spend an evening.
The food was, as always, remarkable. We had two special appetizers- the asparagus and the snap peas. Both were fabulous. For dinner, the black fish was superb. However, the noise level was literally intolerable. We could not hear eachother at our table. The wait staff were kind enough to move us from where we were initially seated next to a huge party table. We otherwise simply could not have stayed.
One of our very favorites! Consistently excellent food!
Everything was very good - the bread and ramp butter was fantastic!! We shared the lamb bolongnese which was my favorite. I felt my market Rib eye wasn’t worth the $38 price tag. A little on the thin side. Chicken was good.
My boys took me to The Cookery for Mother’s Day. The staff were all friendly and fantastic. The food was amazing as they love meat dishes and plenty of them. The music was fantastic and added to this enjoyable experience reliving my High School favorites of Pink Floyd, LED Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones❤️
This place is a hidden gem. Terrific atmosphere. Comfort food with a gourmet twist. Mom and pop service - with efficiency and a big smile. Gladly make the drive from Manhattan to have the experience again.
Food great but small portions. Very loud.
We had an early mother's day brunch and the food was delicious! We were too stuffed to eat most of our dessert by the end.
The Cookery never disappoints. The food is incredible and we had exceptional customer service from Dom!
The food is amazing, the service is not so great and not that friendly, which is odd for a local place like this.
Great food, great service. Definitely a great date spot
The food was outstanding there was no need for salt, pepper, or any additional seasonings. The wait staff was exceptional and well versed on all menu items.
Usually I like the food at the Cookery but this time MTA teak was so salty it was basically inedible. Maybe it was just an off night. Everything else was pretty good
The food always tastes good.
We ordered the meatballs (excellent) and the doughnut for appetizers and both were a hit. The unusual combination of flavors in the doughnut dish was quite an experience. We ordered 3 different cocktails that were not the greatest. Those need improvement.
My first choice of main course, the bone marrow cavatelli, had run out. I was very disappointed as this was one of the reasons for my visit. My second choice, the pork clam spaghetti was really bland pasta with few pieces of dark and dry sausage. The lemony flavor was nice but the overcooked pasta was really disappointing. The other choices at my table, cauliflower ravioli and lamb bolognese pasta were much better (or those amazing looking pork osobucco at next table would have been a much better choice)
For desserts we shared the chocolate polenta, served warm and presented in a small jar and topped with marshmellows. It was really delicious. If you order it don't share it as the portion is perfect for just one. The stickabutta cake was good but the lavender ice cream that came with it was even better.
I will definitely come back as I would like to try several courses on this attractive menu. You should be aware that he place is small and the noise level was tremendous, forcing us to shout to one another or repeat the conversations as we couldn't hear ourselves. The bar (that occupies one third of the place), opens to the main dinning area, adding even more noise.
We have always enjoyed the food at Cookery. Service has always been friendly. The noise level (music) is now very noticeably louder and more annoying as we have to scream at each other in conversation. We notice other people doing the same and we can hear their conversations. Onto the food. The signature lamb bolognese dish has changed. It has more sauce now. The entree sizes seem to have increased. The wait staff on the night we went to (not the bus boys) were all women dressed in flannel plaid shirts. We also notice that at the Parlor the music is very loud too. Maybe we are getting more sensitive to loud music while trying to enjoy a meal? Recommend the food, not the ambiance. Or bring earplugs?
Food was delicious, server was friendly and helpful!
Best food ever!
The food is consistently delicious!!
Yes, we would recommend, but for a time when few people are there. It was so noisy that we stopped talking. We had a hard time hearing the waitress -- who was very nice, but each time she walked away one of us had to say... "What did she say?" They need more sound absorbing materials or something. The noise level goes up as people start shouting at each other because they can't be heard. The food was outstanding. Well presented, interesting and delicious. But the place is just too loud.
Super friendly staff, relaxing table service with no pressure to flip our table quickly although we were there after brunch time (2:00).
Food was gourmet portion size but filling. Be careful when ordering your meals. Pair carefully because there were a lot of very sweet dishes, if you order several it's just too sugary from appetizer to dessert.
Loved the chef's play on classic dishes.
The food here was so delicious and we'll prepared! Everything was amazing and we had a nice brunch. Definitely will come back to try the rest of the menu!
food was adequate and the noise level was ridiculous- you needed to scream to be heard
did not feel a 3% and then an additional tip should be added unless you know before you come to the restaurant. you are better off including it in the price of the food and not have any tips
would not come back to this restaurant.
While the menu is limited, there were some good options, and the quality was high. However, the noise level was too high, so it felt almost like a nightclub... we did not appreciate the extra 3% service for the kitchen, nor the fact that bread was a la carte
Initially, the guy who seated us gave off the sense that he was above the job, he collected a stack of menus and put them in a pile at the table (did not place them around the table at each seat) then unceremoniously walked away. Took awhile for a server to come around to our table then took another 15-20 minutes to take our order.
As our time spent there went on, the service improved and the food was absolutely delicious. The pork is outstanding and the chocolate polenta was killer! We'll definitely be going back.
Excellent food great service and prices are very reasonable. Have been going to the cookery for a couple of years and their dishes never disappoint
