The Black Swan Ockham
A delightfully eclectic eatery the pub & restaurant presents a stunning international wine list, a great selection of real ales and a cosmopolitan décor with open fires and plenty of comfy seating. During the summer months enjoy one of Surrey"s finest Al fresco dining experiences in our beautiful gardens.
Good choice of food, lovely outside dining area and good service.
We had a great family Sunday lunch at the Black Swan. The service was excellent, they were extremely busy but we had no delays and the food was delicious, which can be quite hit and miss with Sunday roasts but this although a bit pricy was worth it. They even helped present a birthday cake.
Everything was good except the time the food took to arrive.
Sienna was fab at serving the table and nothing was too much trouble for her.
We have enjoyed many meals in the past but Friday was very disappointing. Service was far far too slow. We also had to chase up our wine order.
The duck breast consisted of 2 small slices which was disappointing. The steak to share was unavailable and there was only one rib eye left.
The food and service was superb.
Vicky was our waitress and she was on the ball and gave us a great service.
I would recommend this place.
We were celebrating a 70th birthday lunch and had a great time with good food and excellent service from our waitress Jo
Great food and we had a lovely waitress. Lots of parking and nice decor.
As a first time visit to entertain family and celebrate a birthday and a homecoming, we found plenty of car parking space, the menu suited everyone and was really tasty, and the staff could not have been more helpful. We would certainly make our way to the Black Swan to repeat the experience.
An excellent experience for a Sunday lunch, made special by our waitress Jo. We will definitely be back again.
Very nice food, service could have been better as it was very busy.
Had a Saturday lunch here to meet up with old friends we hadn't seen for a while, three of had the fish of the day which was sea bass and cooked to perfection, the other was linguine, again superb. Spent four hours catching up and we were not rushed once. Would thoroughly recommend.
Eat there regularly and always enjoy it, the food was good but not quite up to usual
Had a very enjoyable lunch with a friend. The location of the Black Swan is rural and quiet, and the parking is excellent.
We both had the fish pie which was excellent, and the vanilla cheesecake to follow was superb.
The restaurant was Peaceful and relaxing, and the tables far enough apart for conversations not to be overheard.
I would heartily recommend this restaurant.
Lovely ambiance in quiet setting. Pleasant to eat outside with excellent food
We have been here before always excellent food and brilliant service if anything the portions are too much not that I'm complaining of course . We had Sunday lunch this visit very nice too , but as I said maybe too much on the plate , overall a lovley place to visit for a drink or a meal
The staff are amazing - you feel so welcome. The food is very good as well.
I thought the place tired.
The food looked very different to my last visit. I suspect now from the freezer and not cooked on site.
The lavatory was filthy and doors sticky.
The dining room was very noisy.
I will not be back.
Shame as I rather enjoyed going there.
Since stumbling across the Black Swan and having the tastiest ploughmans lunch ever we have now been back a few times both on our own and with family and friends; it has become one of our favorite gastro pubs with loads of parking and so family friendly with space for the kids to keep occupied. I have been to The Black Swan many times but recently the food has not been very good the beef was below par on more than one occasion which is such a shame as I have enjoyed eating here for many years but will not been returning in the near future.
Location is great be it in the summer or winter.
Excellent evening thank you for looking after me and my parents so well they enjoyed it tremendously. The staff were incredible - charming, friendly and professional. Delicious food. The small issue with dads meal was dealt with swiftly and kindly. Beautiful setting too. We enjoyed a drink in the garden before dinner. All in all a truly delightful night.
Great place for a family dinner with very welcoming staff and a relaxing atmosphere. Food was great with some interesting choices on the menu that makes it feel like a unique dining experience.
Helpful informed staff offering good service
Lovely in every way. Great location, good seating and super helpful, friendly staff. Great options for vegans. I had the vegan fish n chips, fantastic. Whether a vegan or not for the quality alone it was exceptional.
Gorgeous food, lovely service. When I told the waitress I can’t eat dairy they amended a dish for me. Only complaint was the amount of wasps as we were eating outside but it was the hottest day of the year so I doubt this is usually a problem! Would definitely recommend.
Disappointed from the moment I walked into the bar area and was ignored by the stressed bar staff who dealt with the loudest person first rather that those who had been waiting a while. All of them were stressed and not really coping all that well. I had reserved a table, called (NB: they do not answer the phone, so leave a message if you want to talk to someone) to ask for an outside table, only to be told (when there) that one had not been reserved and just pick a table, luckily I had arrived early. Joined by friends who waited patiently are the bar for 10mins to be served only to be told that they he would need to go back to the table and wait for table service! Eventually they go some drinks. Although a good menu dishes served were not as the menu and a few things were over cooked and wrong dirnks being delivered. Oh and then they add 12.5% service charge which I do not recall being very clearly stipulated and it's not optional!!! Such a lovely location but it's just badly run! If you have low expectations then you might be ok but I doubt I'll go back. You've been warned!
Noisy, lots of flies, but worst of all is the food, main course Sunday Roast Beef was inedible, my partner and I could not even cut the meat with the special serated knife provided, let alone chew it. Returned for a new serving, equally bad. The waiter was polite and apologetic, but that didn't help the food get any better. They did offer an alternative, but since they had sold out of Duck (our first choice anyway) and our guest was struggling to eat the Lamb due to that being tough, decided to just eat some of the vegetables and leave, never to return.
A local pub in a country setting with nice food and pleasant staff.
Staff were friendly and looked after us well. Menu and pre-dinner drinks arrived promptly. We enjoyed the food, but have marked it down because our main course fish (Sole) was too salty. The staff handled the problem well and we were given freshly cooked replacement fish which was well cooked and delicious. Overall, an enjoyable evening.
Food was nice, but waiting between courses was too long. We actually had to ask for our dessert order to be taken ,even though we had been given the menus well in advance and the waiter had passed our table several times.
I have had coeliac disease for 34 years. Never has this led to the situation on Friday. On viewing the menu I was told to find out what I could eat by using my mobile phone. This showed one starter (good) and I could have the sole. The web said chips (several choices) were fine. The chef said that was not the case. The manager came and explained there were two fat fryers. One was used for the breaded fish, the other gluten free, but was next to the first, so could be contaminated (99.9% sure it was alright but I had to choose to have it used she said). I had it - food very good. So I now had a legal contract that I was responsible and the manager delivered the food herself. This palava dominated and spoiled the whole evening which was to be a birthday celebration.
I am used to restaurants which indicate what I can have, either from a marked menu including such things as vegetarian or gluten free items, or a separate menu. The chef will usually alter a dish in a minor way for me e.g. leaving croutons off soup, or providing gluten free bread with pate - no problem on either side. The Black Swan is one of our family's favourite restaurants though we have not been there since the change in March, and they have hitherto been most helpful
I asked to see the manager at the end but she was temporarily unavailable, but spoke to one of the senior waiters, in a cordial spirit of helping. I explained the system was so dominant in its effect on the evening it would prevent me bringing guests there in future, and he admitted it was a system all of them disliked and found difficult. Please rationalise this and let me know if and when I can return. Or is it an essential part of using OpenTable which will effectively ban me from your restaurants.
Tasty food, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Perfect outdoor dining on a warm summer evening.
Went there on a quiet night , after a weekend , asked for champagne on table and wasn’t , the champagne was out of stock , lady to welcome was smart and helpful , items on menu not all available , food good , waitress seem to disappear , then served by scruffy lady . Gave desert menus , then no one back to table for 15 mins then gave up , paid bill again scruffy lady , so a bit dissapointed considering the pub was quiet . If customers buy champagne at £65 a bottle then the service should be outstanding through out and wasn’t
Great place to eat food and service fantastic .Would definitely go again.
I bring my family here most Sundays,
The chicken roast wAs amazing! Highly recommend,
The service is professional yet friendly
I'm coeliac so need gluten free food and they had no allergens menu but an app! but we didn't have the correct phones!!The waiter did help me but there was only about 2/3 dishes from the menu that I could definitely order. He told me the chips were gluten free, but my stomach the next day would disagree. My friends and I were too hot and felt crammed into the booth. We wont be coming back soon.☹
Special trip to the Black Swan today for my daughter’s birthday - same good food, really friendly staff and one happy birthday girl
Wonderful food. Great venue. Servers lovely. Will be back soon.
All good except the motorbikes driving past making a very loud noise!
Friendly service with great care taken to ensure that a suitable dish was available for one of the party who is gluten intolerant. Good food and a pleasant atmosphere.
Pleasant, unhurried lunch on a Friday, though not as busy at first as had been expected. Food exactly as described, staff pleasant and not over-attentive. Value fine. Good ambiance. What else would you need!
