The Black Swan Ockham
A delightfully eclectic eatery the pub & restaurant presents a stunning international wine list, a great selection of real ales and a cosmopolitan décor with open fires and plenty of comfy seating. During the summer months enjoy one of Surrey"s finest Al fresco dining experiences in our beautiful gardens.
Reasonable food and ambiance but not cheap and they add 12.5% to all bills irrespective of how the service is.
Great service, lovely atmosphere and wonderful hearty food, with the added bonus of a great outdoor area including a table tennis table, other games and a big barbecue area. Plus there is loads of parking. All in all, the perfect place for large groups with or without kids.
Excellent all round as usual Thank you - we will be back
Very good food, attentive service and interesting wine list. We were a party of adults and children. Something for everyone.
Been several times to the black swan. Would highly recommend it to anyone. This is one of my favourite restaurants and will be going back again very soon.
Our waitress was outstanding and a credit to your establishment
All the staff were absolutely lovely - so refreshing to be greeted by such smiley and warm people with great knowledge of the menu and happy to let us try wine before we chose. Market fish delicious. And wonderful garden to sit outside on a sunny day.
Long term customer and we received your usual good service and food.
This was up until the moment a waitress served our desserts.
My friend politely reminded her he was waiting for his ice cream and she rudely and abruptly told him that was r it obvious that she couldn’t carry it all at once.
She was unnecessarily aggressive and this incident spoilt a happy occasion as it upset our friend and cast a shadow over our reunion lunch.
He didn’t want to complain but I feel compelled to make you aware of this poor response.
Having been a stewardess for 7 years I know how to respond to a customer, whatever you are feeling!
Staff training required here I think as we have not experienced such bad service, anywhere.
Will think twice about returning.
A lovely country pub with an outdoor kitchen & menu as well - it had a really lovely atmosphere and staff were super friendly.
Being vegan I had the vegan fish & chips which was yum (fish made from Tofu) and a fried cauliflower in sweet & sour sauce - I was one happy customer & so were the meat eaters in my party!
excellent food and service. Good value. Good ambience.
We ate outside and the ambiance is superb. Tables well spaced apart both inside and out. The food was particularly good even though we had a wait for the ‘special’. King prawn linguine also very good. Will definitely eat there again
Great food & lovely relaxing beer garden. We came for my husband’s birthday- & staff made an effort with a candle- thank you.
Only thing I would comment is that the play area is quite minimal- no swings or merry go round..
Great food and venue. Slightly over priced. Reasonable service but ‘ok’ (for example oysters and starters came at the same time). I would go back.
Great visit. Lovely staff, lovely roast, lovely pub! Looking forward to our next visit. X
Great service, the lady that met us and found our table was excellent. Pub was busy but really well staffed.
Food was good quality and reasonably priced. Restaurant was spacious and the perfect temperature.
We really enjoyed our visit and look forwards to rebooking.
Food was ok but not great, service was a little rude and shoddy, guests brought dogs to the table. It was allowed on the dining bench, eat at table height and the waitress served food after touching guest’s dogs... We are dog friendly, but to run a hygienic restaurant dogs should be kept on a lead outside a restaurant and staff certainly should not handle animals whilst serving food. We visited the Black Swan numerous times before but feel that the overall experience is becoming more and more unappealing. What a shame – this place used to be fantastic… We will give it some time until we return.
Put in a back room which I would describe like a school dining hall
Smell of drains wafting through
Disappointed with the food as far as I could describe as bland lacking any flavour and worse of all COLD........
Asked for condiments which arrived at the end of our meal.....
Dirty plates left on the table, totally unacceptable for a bill in excess of £310.00...
I reluctantly paid the service charge... as my wife didn’t want me to cause a scene
We have been on other numerous occasions but this was as if it was under a different ownership, WHATS HAPPENED??
I would not go again because this experience ruined a birthday celebration
Check other pubs before going to the Black Swan
Having been to the Black Swan a number of times over the last few years, I have to admit to being slightly disappointed on this occasion. The serving staff were friendly, polite and hard-working but they appeared to be let down by the kitchen team. Two specific examples are that my Mother ordered Duck to be cooked medium rather than with any blood, but if anything it was the rare side of medium rare. Secondly I ordered a whitebait and squid appetizer which was stone cold and did not taste as if it had been recently cooked but was almost raw. While a pleasant experience in terms of ambience and service it was not a great example of culinary brilliance.
Great food and fabulous service as always from the staff - makes coming back all the easier and satisfying
Good food , friendly staff. Just felt a bit impersonal where we where sat.
The food service was very, very slow. Every time I have eaten here it has been slow and I keep hoping it will improve. But it never has. The food was a pretty standard Sunday roast fare; nothing to write home about. The menu did not make it clear that this was served with vegetables and potatoes, so we unnecessarily ordered a number of sides which we didn't need. Given the ordinary nature of the food, it was pretty expensive.
Wonderful staff, knowledgable waitress
Nice place , good food, lovely staff and good service. What's not to love 😊
Fantastic food and service and catering for the children very well, best Vegan burger we’ve ever had!
Nice menu & friendly service (for 2 and 4 legged guests!) Been before and I'll go again.
Always made to feel welcome with very good service, food and value.
Lovely friendly place to meet friends. Relaxed atmosphere and very good with our dog.
Fab olives. Nice venue.
Duck was bland.
I went with a friend for lunch on Easter Monday at 12.15. We got to sit outside separate to smokers so that was a super double plus. We could also sit outside in the shade, another bonus. There were quite a lot of diners including many families with children and I noticed that it was still peaceful. The food came as quickly as reasonable for cooking fresh and we had drinks beforehand. There was a decent choice for non alcoholic drinks. I am a vegetarian and had a really good risotto with big chunks of mushroom in rather than little slivers. The rice was cooked to perfection. My friend had the flat iron chicken and said it was very good. Veg rather than fries might have been nice but may have been on offer if we had thought to ask. Food was fresh and hot. I had a sorbet for dessert and that was very good and my friend had the coffee with sweet treats which she enjoyed very much as just a small amount of sweetness to round off the meal. A really lovely venue with lots of parking and great service. There was also no road noise even though the road is close. I highly recommend it.
A popular establishment with good parking and reasonable food
Our favorite local restaurant - amazing service and food, great atmosphere and Barbara (management team) does an amazing job. Our kids love this place which is a huge win. Highly recommended restaurant.
Black Swan at Ockham is a lovely, well run gastro pub near Wisley. Beautifully decorated another tables are nicely spaced and comfortable.
Food was excellent, and waitress Abby also excellent but overstretched (so were the bar staff) as it was Good Friday and they were very very busy. Glad we booked as they were turning people away. We had to wait 20 minutes for drinks and 45 mins for food once we had ordered. When it did come though it was very nice, obviously individually cooked. My Father had the lamb with beans, said he'd never had lamb like this before, was most impressed (he is not easily pleased in restaurants and never patient) and said he was going to buy borlotti beans to try at home!
The pork was beautifully prepared, not at all dry, and I had the chilli linguini which was fantastic, quite warm though!
Price is very competitive. Definitely recommend.
Nice pub in a lovely quiet location, but hamburger had bone material in it which did impact this review. The staff replaced the meal, which was OK, but then added a Service Charge to the bill, which quite frankly was the wrong thing to do. No effort was made to compensate for the fact that we ate separately either. So an unfortunate experience made worse by the way the staff failed to handle the situation.
This was our first visit, but judging by this experience we would certainly go there again. Although it was a very busy Saturday evening we were greeted warmly and served without any undue delay. I must say that the fish and chips were some of the best I have ever had. A generous portion of beautifully cooked cod with very crispy beered batter and equally crispy chips, with side dishes of minted mashed peas and sauce tartare. Heavenly! We’ll be back to try the rest of the interesting looking menu when we can.
Becky was superb..I had mentioned it was my ffiend’s 70th Birthday. She went out of her way to make it special ...when my friend did not want a deaert, Becky brought out a platter of sweet nibbles with a candle in. My friend was blown away. Thank you!
This is the 3rd time I have eaten here in recent months experience has always been good. No hesitation in recommending.
Pleasant. Really nice, helpful service. The pie was not too good - rather gristly, hence the relatively low rating. Nice fish of the day, mediocre steak, great prawn linguine. Cheesecake was fabulous.
Lovely place to meet & eat with friends for a birthday lunch. Would be good to have some more salad/vegan/healthy options added. x
The service was excellent however very annoyingly mislead into a £10.75 glass of Rosè wine when I had asked for just the regular house!
Service very attentive and friendly. It was Mother’s Day and they handled the number of guests very well. Food was fabulous, I had a roast and my daughter a burger. We also had a side of mac n cheese and cauliflower cheese. Including a glass of Prosecco we thought the price very reasonable. Our new favourite place!
