This has long been our go to place for special occasions and it has always been wonderful. Not this time. We were shown to our table and asked about drinks. One requested an ice tea. Nothing came. Our waiter then came and asked about drinks. We had three non-drinkers, one wanted wine. The iced tea was reordered. Nothing came. Finally, we were told the iced tea was being brewed. Nothing came. Appetizers came. No tea. Plates are cleared. Tea arrives. Waiter comes in to say, entrees will be up shortly several times; at least three. 90 minutes after the appetizers, entrees arrive. First and second bite of sea bass was a fork full of bones. $70 lobster dish barely cut with a knife it was so overcooked! Venison was delicious. The beef wellington was good. Plates are cleared. 20 minutes later dessert arrives. Each time food was delivered, we were told, no rush to eat! No rush? Are you kidding? We have been here now for almost three hours waiting on you for food that for the price, is adequate at best and some almost inedible. The sea bass entree was removed from the bill which still was $500.00 with almost no alchohol! We will be looking for a new place for special occasions.

Always love the Ashby Inn. Most recently visited for my wife's birthday. Service was polite and appropriately attentive. The food was great. I had the citrus cured salmon and venison rack, my wife the foie gras and duck confit. All delicious. Decent selection of wines by the glass to pair with each course and the bourbon pecan bar was nice for dessert, too.

We did the tasting menu and were so hopeful. The wine was good. The brioche starter bread was so chewey and tough it seemed like it had been microwaved. The beef carpaccio starter was amazing. The second course of ravioli was way over-salted. It included shaved Parmesan which already added salt and the cream sauce was so salty it was unpleasant. The third course of lobster and orzo - the lobster was so overcooked it was rubbery. The fourth course venison loin and the sea bass were both good, though not outstanding. The pistachio crème brûlée was very good. On the whole, the only things we would order again are the carpaccio and the crème brûlée. It was unfortunate for a tasting menu at $155 per person. Far better options at that price point in northern Virginia. I will say we enjoyed our room at the Inn and would stay there again but would make other arrangements for dinner.

Exceptional food and service. You can see why this place is so highly rated. The wild mushroom ravioli and the venison were stars.
