Thai Square The Strand
Conveniently located on the Strand, a major thoroughfare in Central London, our restaurant offers the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
This Strand restaurant was entirely refurbished in May 2018, with new features including living botanical walls and a breathtaking floral tree. Enjoy our romantic interiors and an award-winning, pre-theatre dinner before heading to a show at Somerset House or the Vaudeville and Adelphi theatres.
The service was very poor. Took ages to get a drink and order.
The food was excellent but the service was poor. It was over 20 minutes before we were even offered a drink and as this is in the middle of theatre land and we we’re going to the theatre, this wasn’t great. The restaurant is very long and thin and the waitresses stayed up by the bar and wouldn’t look our way at all and all the diners were at the other end so you couldn’t even catch their eye. They also didn’t bring a glass for one of our drinks and no serving cutlery for our dishes. Quite frankly if we hadn’t called them over, I doubt we would have got served at all. They seemed totally disinterested in attending to us at all. Shame as it’s a nice restaurant and the food really was delicious.
Great little restaurant with fantastic staff. Love the food. Yum.
Food was excellent. The service was brusque and useless. It was slow. The main person who was looking after the restaurant was curt when we arrived, that carried on through the evening, the ordering, the delivery and exit
The venue was comfortable and clean (including the toilets). Our food was tasty and we would definitely eat there again. Very well placed for theatres on The Strand
Absolutely appalling service. We arrived just before 7 having booked on open table for 7 and they did not have our booking. Although there were many free tables, the waitress serving us made it seem like a huge inconvenience to get us seated. No one came to take our order until 7:25 and drinks did not arrive until 7:45. We were outrightly ignored and we had to ask (across the restaurant!) if we could order. By 8:15 we still didn't have our mains and we were told the food was on its way. We had to be somewhere at 9 and by 8:30, still no food!! We asked to take the food in a box and we were still charged the full price + service charge (which we refused to pay). Abysmal service.
Nice atmosphere, friendly & fast service, delicious food, not too busy at time we were there
We arrived on time and were seated, we waited 40 minutes before anyone came to ask if we would even like a drink, we left… terrible service
6pm booking and not busy but service was very slow and food not hot when it came but as always it was reliably delicious when it came.
We had a very pleasant time at this branch of the restaurant chain.
The staff were friendly and respectful, including in their covid-compliance.
The menu was good, including a wide range of options for vegans, vegetarians, lactose-intolerant people. Ingredients which might be a problem for some were clearly marked.
The selection of wines suited us well and complemented the food nicely - simple, crisp flavours.
The complimentary tap water was chilled and served with ice.
The food itself was ok - perfectly reasonable and a nice taste - standard Thai fare and unremarkable. Presentation was fine with a nice flourish on the starters.
We were able to be accommodated before our booked time and there was a nice ambience without feeling busy. A short walk from Covent Garden so an ideal alternative to the crowded bars and restaurants there.
Would happily come again for a decent, straightforward meal, particularly if visiting Somerset House which is next door.
Price for a quality was outstanding. Service was beyond kind and really polite. The vibe in the place is unique and pleasant. Definitely we will visit Thai Square again.
Really nice atmosphere and plate had really good portion. Perfect for a date 🥰
The lunch deal is a very good deal at £9.95 for two courses.

Nice Thai food, not expensive, good location, quick service
Good value for the money. Service fine but not as welcoming as I would have expected from the reviews.
Very close to the theatre so excellent if want to eat before a show. Food was delicious and decor beautiful staff very efficient and reasonably priced
Very nice food, staff were lovely & attentive - just a lack of ambiance, no music & very quiet. Overall would definitely go back! Thanks x
Always good food with efficient and friendly service.
I went out with my friend for her birthday dinner and she was very happy with our choice. Food and service was excellent. Beautiful and worth to spend pounds as is not even too expensive for a quality!
Love there prawn tempura and Phad Thai, salads good too.
Great food, was just a bit slow for a pre-theatre meal as we were almost late! Atmosphere was very good tho...
We had to wait a little while for our main dishes, some were on the minutes as we were going to the Theatre. The food was perfectly ok but the restaurant did not have much of an atmosphere.
Great food, amazing service and beautiful interiors!
We met up as a family to enjoy a nice meal. The pros... the food was excellent. The cons... everything else. The service was appalling, in particular from a member of staff called Toby. He was rude and after I asked him not to serve our table anymore because of his attitude towards us and him throwing down the main course on the table whilst we were eating our starters, he then looked over with terrible looks throughout the rest of the meal. It was also exceptionally noisy in there and very difficult to have a normal conversation. They could have easily made up for the poor service but there is a lack of control by the management. Overall a poor excuse for Thai Square. Far better ones in London. Give this a miss and try somewhere else.
Great food and service!
Excellent venue for top quality pre-theatre meal. Great service, food, ambience and great value for money. Not to be missed if your show is at this part of theatre-land!
Had a lovely meal after visiting an exhibition at Somerset House. Lovely food and decent service
This is a very understated restaurant and is both friendly and has excellent food served by efficient attentive staff and we will certainly return and can recommend it to anyone in the area.
Incredible food, ambience, decor and service. A great restaurant and will definitely visit again!
Restaurant and staff excellent vetoed very good and very good value
Had dinner at Thai Square with some friends who were visiting for the weekend. As always food was great and portions very generous. Will come again - a really good reliable Thai in central london.
Convenient, charming, lovely food and good service.
Pre theatre dining. Excellent quality and quantity.
We had a lovely meal before going to the theatre. The food was amazing
Great food, all the flavours are wonderful. The food is quick but generally the service for ordering and getting the bill etc is slow.
Went to Thai Square for a pre theatre dinner - table was booked for 5.30 but annoyingly the restaurant didn't open until then so we and some other diners had to wait outside! Once we were in and seated the surroundings were nice and the food was the star. Tasty and generous portions. Not especially hot in temperature it has to be said. But very good overall.
We were staying in London on the Strand and wanted to have a Thai meal one evening. We checked on the internet and found Thai Square was within walking distance of our hotel and had some very good reviews.
We booked a table, went along and were not disappointed.
The staff and food were excellent and the restaurant itself was very pleasant. The whole pace of proceedings was perfect and we left having had very good experience.
My wife and I will definitely be going back on our next visit to London.
First time dining here. Separate Vegetarian menu which was a bonus. The staff were very nice and the food was gorgeous. Great for a pre-theatre meal. Will definitely dine here again
We came here for a pre-theatre meal and enjoyed it. The food could have been hotter (temperature not spiciness!) but the staff were nice and we had a nice time.
