Terzo Piano, located on the 3rd floor of the Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago, open for lunch daily. It features the signature cuisine of Chef Tony Mantuano, who has been delighting Chicagoans for years at the four-star Italian restaurant, Spiaggia. The food is all fresh, local, organic and sustainably produced. In season, you may also dine al fresco on the covered sculpture terrace, while enjoying spectacular views of Millennium Park and the Chicago skyline.
Terzo Piano is open to the public, without requiring admission to the Art Institute.
Guests may access the restaurant either via the Nichols Bridge which extends from Millennium Park to the restaurants entrance or via the Modern Wing entrance of the Art Institute at 159 E. Monroe St. and take the elevator, on the right
The only thing worth it about the restaurant is the view. The menu is limited and not very special.
Food was excellent as was the service. Great choice when at or near the Art Institute.
I love the elegant but relaxed atmosphere and I've never had a bad meal. The acoustics make conversation easy and it's conveniently located in the modern wing of the Art Institute. If you're going to catch the current Andy Warhol exhibition, you'll be delighted to find that each entrée, drink and dessert is inspired by one of Warhol's works. The menu features his paintings and you can, as it says in the menu, "try your hand at matching meals to masterpieces." Everything about Terzo Piano is 5 stars.
This is a real gem in the heart of Chicago! You can enjoy world class art and outstanding cuisine all in one visit.
It is the place to eat at AIC. A fantastic place. Food is good but portion are small so expensive.
Overall it is worth the experience.
Loved the connection to the Warhol Exhibit- spectacular!
We made telephone reservations for their Sunday Brunch but upon our arrival and after being seated we were told “sorry during the Andy Warhol exhibit we are not offering the brunch”. Our waitress apologized and said that they will make sure that all the staff knows so they don’t mislead people.
Hello, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at Terzo Piano. We sincerely apologize if our staff did not communicate the correct information to you upon making a reservation and rest assured we will review your input on our next daily meeting. Thanks again for your valuable input.
No recommendations to anyone until you change or devise a much better menu, and offer better value for the price
Hi CarolG, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at Terzo Piano. We really value your opinion and will consider your input when producing our Spring menu. Hope to impress you on your next visit!
Good for public venue
A little pricey but delicious. It's the perfect lunch while exploring the amazing Art Institute of Chicago.
Creativity with the use of seasonal ingredients is the star. Mafaldine with kale and pancetta was bathed in a steamy fragrant broth. Salmon was nested on root vegetables and a lightly spiced squash purée. Both were delicious. Only misstep was the Marilyn, a Warhol inspired cocktail—the banana cotton candy garnish dripped down the side of the coupe, making my hand, the glass stem, and the table a sticky mess. Fortunately our waiter was ready with an extra clean-it-up napkin.
Andy Warhol themed menu was a fun finish after viewing the exhibit.
Excellent food - limited menu but interesting and varied dishes. Limited choices for my allergies but worked to make an adaptation which was much appreciated.
I have been there in the past for valentines day and had a great meal and experience. This time it felt like they were more focused on the wedding they had coming up that evening than the restaurant. Massively understaffed. We had to wait 25 minutes for our table and their credit card machine was down. Food was good, Desert was amazing. Our server was great even with the massive amount of tables they sat for him all at once. The view from this place is always amazing.
Love the windows, nice view. Expensive though.
Always enjoy lunch there while visiting the Art Institute and using my member discount.
We ordered from the "Andy Warhol" themed menu. Marilyn cocktail was a hit!
See you again soon.
Friends here from out of town - we all loved it not rushed good food but slow service. I think the computer was down so that might have been why
Even with reservation we were seated at a table with a lot of traffic even though window tables were open. Out server never greeted us or asked how food was. Food was brought out in wrong order and given to wrong people. We told manager nicely who dismissed all of our very quietly worded concerns about this not being how we are usually treated there. He did not care at all. Very very disappointing

An excellent place for a meal when visiting the Art Institute of Chicago. The food is good, and you get an excellent view of the Chicago skyline.
Hello, Thank you so much for your positive review. We hope you will join us again on your future Art Institute visit!
The restaurant is beautiful and it has great views.
The food is good but the menu is VERY small and a bit difficult.
Not a lot of options especially or picky eaters.
The portions are small and the price is a bit high for what you get.
Hello RonytS, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at Terzo Piano. We appreciate your time and are disappointed our Warhol inspired items along with our Fall/Winter menu did not meet your expectations. May we offer to visit us at Museum Cafe for a cafeteria style menu? The food is just as outstanding in a different setting. We hope to serve you soon!
Terrible service our waiter was the bartender.
We went for a special dinning experience instead of the other restaurant options at the Art Institute.
Waited forever just for water.Very unpleasant experience!
Sad because as a member of the museum a fine dinning
Destination would have been nice.
No I am sorry how can we do better.

The food was excellent. The lamburger was cooked to perfection.
Beautiful restaurant with excellent, creative food and professional service.
Good food in a modern, light filled environment. Service was a bit slow but otherwise all was good.
We had a wonderful Sunday brunch. Everything was excellent!
Some of the portions are extremely small for the price.
Hi DianefromChicago, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at Terzo Piano! We really value our guest feedback and regret your experience with our menu was a negative one. Your review will be shared with our team on our daily meetings. We look forward to sharing our new seasonal menu with you in the next coming weeks.
Great ambiance. Food is delicious. I recommend this to anyone!
The first time we had lunch at Terzo Piano, many years ago, was wonderful, the setting, the view, the food. The second time three years ago on the occasion of the Fashion and Impressionists exhibit, the food was very disappointing. As was true on this our third visit. The special menu of Mexican inspired dishes was set for the Modernists in Mexico exhibition. The lobster in the lobster salad was over-cooked; the lobster fritters were gooey and inedible. The view is increasingly spectacular as the Chicago skyline continues to grow. Hardly anyone was having lunch there on Wednesday. I think that might be the consequence of the poor cooking.
That said, the desserts were amazingly creative and delicious.

Rachel was our server. She was an absolute doll, so personable and professional. Food was really excellent.
Great brunch with work colleague. Delicious salads and unbelievably gorgeous views of the city.
This is a lovely restaurant with beautiful food in a very inviting space in the Modern Wing of the Art Institute. Food and service are very good. However, I would be careful in recommending this restaurant because they have a tendency to treat everyone like a tourist and that's not something I love, especially in my home city. I called ahead to asked for recommendations and communicated that I was dining with a party of 10 people all of whom where food and culinary professionals. The wines recommended were the most pedestrian of choices based on "they were well received for their catered events." They have a limited but very nice wine list, why would they make a cookie cutter recommendation? We made our own choices and looked upon everything with a bit more skeptical perspective and could see that they try hard not to offend or challenge customers, which might be ok for their mass audience, but not ideal for a special dining experience.
Food was great, company I was with was even better. It was quiet, which is good because as an old person with a deaf wife, loud spaces mean we can't communicate except with American Sign.
Love Terzo Piano.
Wow. What a stunning space. It was mild and bucketing rain but we were comfortable outside under the pretty glass roof enjoying the gorgeous city view regardless of the weather. Tried the cactus salad from the exhibit themed menu. Delicious. Sorority sister enjoyed the tuna tartine where the chef helpfully seared the tuna. Will definitely return.

The cactus appetizer and the fettuccine were divine. Beautiful view sitting out on the terrace, the staff was exceptional. This place is a must if you are visiting the museum.

A lovely setting with great views and food to match. Our waiter was very good and we were lucky to sit on the terrace on a very nice day. Don’t skip dessert!

Wonderful waitstaff, great food, price and atmosphere. Spend as much time as you want no pressure to turn over tables
It’s a beautiful outdoor space. Our friend’s dish looked great: a fried green tomato Benedict. Unfortunately the 63 degree poached egg dish—with the exception of the delicious over-sized crouton—was a weird, soupy consistency, and the eggs were under cooked.
