Terzo Piano, located on the 3rd floor of the Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago, open for lunch daily and Thursday dinner. It features the signature cuisine of Chef Tony Mantuano, who has been delighting Chicagoans for years at the four-star Italian restaurant, Spiaggia. The food is all fresh, local, organic and sustainably produced. In season, you may also dine al fresco on the covered sculpture terrace, while enjoying spectacular views of Millennium Park and the Chicago skyline.
Terzo Piano is open to the public, without requiring admission to the Art Institute.
Guests may access the restaurant either via the Nichols Bridge which extends from Millennium Park to the restaurants entrance or via the Modern Wing entrance of the Art Institute at 159 E. Monroe St. and take the elevator, on the right side, to the third floor.
Felt more like nice cafeteria ambiance. Food was good but not outstanding. Service was gracious
Terzo Piano is a beautiful restaurant perfectly situated on the 3rd floor of the Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago. Service is great, but the menu is very limited. We had the poached chicken salad with miniature summer vegetables. The salad consisted of a few discs of poached chicken and the tiniest of vegetables. The greens were the carrot, turnip, and radish fronds. There was very little to the salad, and we were happy we had ordered a plate of bread for $6. Bourbon vanilla ice cream with peaches was delicious, and the chef kindly split it for us. It was a lovely lunch, but I would not order the poached chicken salad again.
Yes, but...... The ambiance took away from the enjoyment of the delicious food. Unfortunately, the terrace was under construction which detracted from the experience, the table set up seemed empty and sloppy, the noise from organization which gathered in one end of the dining area were noisy. The food is delicious but I didn’t enjoy sharing your restaurant with guests.
Lovely atmosphere. The menu is somewhat limited, but there was something for everyone.
My only criticism is that the prices are too high we had sandwich and soft drink one desert and one espresso and it came to 80 dollars.
Other wise everything was delicious and fresh.
The food on this visit was not as good as in the past. The breaded pork and lamb burger were a bit dry. But maybe it was just those items.

We had brunch following our viewing of the Manet exhibit on display at The Art Institute. Great service and we sat outside. Only disappointment was that the menu was fairly limited. Otherwise we had a great time.
We sat on the terrace and it was lovely, quiet even when mostly full. this is my go to place if I'm going to the museum and want to stop for lunch.
We always eat there when we are in Chicago. It’s a joyous occasion we looking at the museum and do lunch or dinner.We’ve never been disappointed. The food is great as is the ambiance.
If you go to the Art Museum of Chicago and need a little rest, or are in the vicinity for lunch or dinner , this is a very relaxing place. Service is great and the choices for lunch are way above regular museum cafeterias.

Met a friend for lunch before Manet show at the Chicago Art Institute. Food is always eclectic and sitting outside was a treat on a beautiful day
Very good food in a wonderful location, with views overlooking Millennium Park.
Three of us went for lunch. The service was fast, but unfortunately, a little too fast. We ordered bread and hoped to enjoy that with some wine before they brought our main course, but the food came within minutes of the bread. We all ordered the shrimp crab salad. The watercress was fresh but the seafood was too blended into the salad and the sesame flavor of the dressing overwhelmed the seafood. We have dined there before and the food and service had been impeccable so we were somewhat disappointed this time.
So beautiful! And they went above and beyond to celebrate our wedding day!

most of the time, this place is fine. For whatever reason, the service was VERY SLOW on July 5th - not sure if people called in sick or were not coming in that day, but it took a long time to get our food. It's usually not this bad. They may want to have extra emergency staff on hand for those that don't show up especially on holiday weekends.

What an oasis! This is my go-to place to take out of town visitors -- it's quiet enough to talk, with lovely views of the city and delicious food.

Sunday brunch. Not busy. Error in flatbread order backed up service to remake correct item. Steak and eggs main started in kitchen then apparently sat there while flatbread redone. Steak very tough by then, potatoes became potato chips, the eggs (scrambled) was edible. Server was great by taking off the poorly made main.

I love the ambience: cool crisp, contemporary--and then you have a stunning view of buildings on S. Michigan with elaborate stonework. Service was swift, smart and friendly--and wait till you try the crispy eggplant. I've never had eggplant taste so good and so subtle. They'll tell you their secret if you ask. Presentation was lovely but un-fussy, wine choices were very good, and my friends and I have a terrific long lunch that made our weekend great.

What a lovely day to be outside at the Art Institute! Our waitperson (Amy) was so lovely, and made our visit even better! She went above and beyond for every request even though she was clearly busy. Nothing rushed, nice menu choices and a perfect sky blue day after seeing the Mandy exhibit. A perfect visit!

So , Trying my best to communicate a clear message about my experience. First off, Adam our waiter was excellent. The Menu , however needs to be rewritten. My husband ordered the Monkfish lunch for $22.00. The menu stated "monkfish: baby bok choy, peas, bacon dashi, crispy pork" Well...The person that delivered our food was not Adam, He stated tartly that this was our lunch even though we showed confusion because we had not ordered soup. It was a bowl of soup with 2 half dollar sized monkfish floating! Nothing crispy, no peas whatsoever and just not suitable for a meal. Adam, when he came on over suggested that the menu was not accurate and brought us 2 more half dollar sized monkfish pieces.

Very good place for lunch at the top of the Art Institute. There were some nice choices for lunch - mainly sandwiches and salads. I had the Waygu beef on a crustless brioche (would have preferred the crust or a baguette). They have a good wine list including a good rose which went well with lunch. Service is very good and the setting is very pleasant.

Our reservation was for 1:30. It was a long time before our server acknowledged us, took our order, and it was nearly 2 pm before I had my drink. So slow......And there are so many employees walking around, all totally ignoring the fact that we aren't being taken care of.
My biggest complaint with Terzo Piano, which I eat at once a year, is they auction off the food when they serve it. I have provided feedback in the past to management, and they say" No, not in our restaurant," but in fact it has happened every single year since they opened.
It was 2:30 before our lunch was served. So slow.......The food was delicious. I had a crab and shrimp salad with watercress and avocado - such delicate flavors. And paired beautifully with the glass of rose wine.

The view is great. I think many people may expect larger portions, but I thought they were right. The server was kind of aloof, except for when he was blatantly hitting on my wife.

They decided that we did not have a reservation and told us that they seated reservations first and walk-ins last. We had a reservation. The table who were seated after us and after our ordering received their appetizer first and when we were finally served our appetizer they brought the appetizer with the second. The wagu was “chewy” and the pasta lacked flavor. They have a nice wine selection. One of the museum employees warned us “it’s expensive.” Not expensive. $15 per dish. My recommendation. Have a glass of wine. Forgo the food. Please get a new hostess.

We arrived for a 1PM reservation; they were extremely busy and we were seated at 1:45PM. There seems to be a significant amount of room in the space and perhaps, if this business is occurs often, they need to expand staff and tables. We had an appetizer of goat cheese balls which were a little strange from a presentation and texture but tasty. Just 5 or 6 balls rolling around on a bowled plate. We each had a lovely soup. And then a nice dessert of chocolate mousse and another of a blue cheese ice cream. They delay in seating and serving shortened our overall tour of the Art Institute though.

Menu has good variety and food is very good. Ambiance pleasant overall, although we were seated on the side where the view is the railroad tracks and could not see the park or lake. Server was pleasant and deserved the good tip we gave her. Major disappointment on this particular visit is that our reservation was meaningless — we waited more than half an hour past our reserved time.

Seating is so close that it's hard to have a conversation over the voices on either side. Even with reservations, we waited 55 minutes for a table.
