Our intention was brunch, which ends at 2:45. We checked-in at 2:49 and asked if they could allow the brunch menu. Pancakes or the crab Benedict. The hostess said “no”. I asked if I could speak to a manager for an exception, and I was told he was in a meeting— which he was not, as I saw him walking around the outdoor dining area. I asked again if there was any way to grant an exception— was told “no” again, and then was told to ask my server to ask the chef. We asked the server who also made us feel like we were asking for the moon— he said he would talk to the chef. He came back and barked “ you have to order right now”. His tone was admonishing like we were being scolded. It felt like groveling for pancakes/Benedict. We decided to leave at which time the General manager came back to the check-in stand as we were talking to an assistant manager. Within 3 feet of me and in my direct line of sight, the GM asked the hostesses what was going on, and they proceeded to nod our way with eye-rolls, smirks and other condescending facial expressions. Right in my line of sight, 3 feet away. It was like schoolyard bullying and ridicule. Ridiculous and beyond unprofessional. This isn’t my first bad experience at Tavern on Rush— good food if they get it right, but they only get it right about 50% of the time, literally. Obviously it’s a great location and nice restaurant, but unless you pull up in a Maserati or you are on their VIP list, expect to be treated poorly/dismissively. It’s always been that way, but the location lures you in. Gibson’s across the street treats you like an actual customer, regardless. The GM mockingly chuckled on our way out.
Great food great service the noise Level was because we sat in the bar
Birthday dinner for my daughter
Great experience and food. Bring your wallet, credit card or CASH.
It was great
Great restaurant! Friendly staff and delicious food! It was a little louder than expected but overall great!
Went here for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend on Monday! It was beautiful. They were having ladies night downstairs so they sat us upstairs and we got to eat on an amazing terrace overlooking the fountain. So romantic!
Awesome brunch! Great service! Get the breakfast burrito, it’s incredible.
Whenever I come back to visit Chicago, I know this is the place to be! Joe has taken care of me for years and It is always an amazing experience to dine on the streets of my favorite city!
We had a fantastic anniversary dinner. The steaks over a charcoal grill are amazing! Best au gratin potatoes I've ever had as well.
Food and ambiance as stated were excellent, but service not as good as we are used to. Also, we always get the seafood tower, but were not as happy with the portions this time for how very much it costs, especially with the extra $48 for the lobster tier.
It was by far the best meal we have had during our visit to Chicago!
Good place to have a fun time.Employees were all nice and professional.Service was good and the food came quickly.
My client and I both ordered filets. I ordered the bone in filet and my client ordered the boneless filet. We ordered several sides to share to include the mushrooms, twice baked potato, and risotto. The mushrooms were the star of evening. The steaks were extremely bland and lacked flavor, not to mention overcooked. Medium rare turned out to be medium to medium well around the edges. Most of the sides, with exception to the mushrooms, shared the same flavorless characteristics of the steaks. I would highly recommend going to Chicago Cut, Gibson's, Gene and Georgetti's, or even Morton's over Tavern on Rush. This reminded me of an upsale Outback without the flavor and I will not go back or recommend this establishment for those looking for a good meal.
I make it a point to go here every time I’m in Chicago. It is a wonderful restaurant and the executive chef has it right with the menu and his chefs making the food. Get your steak Oscar style and it will include the best hollandaise you ever had. Truly wonderful experience.
Best meal in Chicago! Unbelievable steak!! Love this place. It was our first time dining there. Love the location also.
I’ve been telling my kids about this restaurant since I was there 10 years ago and I finally brought them back. I wish you guys were in LA because I would probably dine with you every week! The food is always amazing and the service exemplary!
Amazing food fantastic environment
Loved it!! Recommended!!
Great food good service
Great for brunch or a special occasion! Nice menu choices. Delicious desserts. Friendly, attentive service. Large outdoor seating area.
Very disappointed the food was not good at all ... the steak was tough the Mac & Cheese was lack seasoning. Really wanted my money back
We had 2 ripped leather chairs at our table. For the price you pay you should not have ripped leather chairs.
Also, was not a fan of the steak. The pasta dishes were good that I tried but my husband cooks better steaks at home.
Immer wieder gern.
My favorite restaurant in Chicago. Great Food
YIKES is the only way to describe the evening. It was pretty average across the board until at the end of the meal our card was used to pay for the giant party at a different table. Our bill was $50 whereas the large party had a $1400 bill. The card was refunded but that type of error is really inexcusable. It was not so busy that mistakes like that make sense. The server, Michael, laughed off charging us $1350 extra and was very condescending when we alerted him to the error. Coming from the service industry we still tipped over 20% but I will never return to this restaurant and will advise anyone considering it for a nice, after work dinner with a small party to avoid it. Never again.
Food is delicious
I've had brunch at Tavern on Rush several times. This last visit was disappointing. We ordered the crab cakes benedict and the crab cakes were cold - for all three of us... Our table was too close to other tables and other guests were bumping into us and other guests when trying to reach their tables. I like Tavern on Rush and will return there and hope that our meals will be warmer next time.
Waiter was poor at best! Waste of time.
All around great !!!
Always a consistent experience with a moderate price and many good menu choices.
Excellent experience. Perfect second floor table, excellent service by Jason, food was very good, except ribs - not meaty/fall off the bone. Overall, very pleased and will go back next time in Chicago.
We enjoyed the service and the food. We will definitely be back for dinner soon.
ALL IN VERY GOOD AND I LIKE THE PLACE...WAITERS ARE GOOD!
We had a pre-theater dinner at Tavern on Rush. The food was very good. Soft shell crab and steaks were delicious. We had a table by the window that had a great view. Overall, we enjoyed the restaurant.
As we were sat outside, the rain started to come down fast. We asked our waiter prior for downpour that if that happened, if we could go inside. He said no and we had to then remove ourselves to one outside table to another table that was presumably less dry. Our food got ruined and he did not ask us if we would like a fresh plate. Highly disappointed in the overall service and presentation.
We had a greta dinner over the long weekend.
Fun & lively bar on the first floor, nice dinner room upstairs with a view of the action outside.
Lamb & soft-shell crab were excellent, finished with banana cream pie (amazing).
Service was spot on, and the wine list had a nice list of Cabs.
