Tar & Roses
With our heart beating in Southern California, we want to create a welcoming ambiance for all to come and celebrate food. Jonathan Gold of the Los Angeles Times, claimed that Tar & Roses "...may also mark the first time in our nation's history when cauliflower became more delicious than prime steak," and we love to push the limits when it comes to traditional ideas of food. With our rotating selection of local craft beer and our ever-changing menu, there is always something new and exciting to try.
When you step into Tar & Roses, you'll feel like you are coming home. We invite you to come share a meal with us.
What Insiders Are Saying
Tar and Roses exudes a classy calmness not often seen in this part of town.
Never disappoints! My moat favorite place in the world
Creative small and large plates, attentive service in an upscale environment. Good wine list by both the bottle and glass.
Reservations a must. Valet parking available.
My wife and I have found our NEW FAVORITE restaurant! Tar & Roses FAR exceeded our expectations! The ambiance was perfect, the lighting, the music BUT most of ALL our server was AMAZING and she guided us through their menu PERFECTLY! We had the Morel Mushroom Toast which was phenomenal!! We then had the Cauliflower with lavender spiced honey and the corn and mascarpone gnocchi which was THE BEST I've EVER had!! We then shared the Branzino which was incredible just as amazing was the Meyer Lemon Risotto!! My wife and I are BOTH huge foodies and have been in the restaurant business, Tar & Roses hit it out of the park and we already discussed with two other couples going there SOON!!! Bravo!
Everything we had at Tar & Roses was great. The chicken mousse with toast was amazing. The squid and pasta was very flavorful. And the whole red snapper was my favorite. Very nice wine selection too.
Great food. One of my top meals in LA. No liquor though.
inspired cooking, attention to detail, great set up with long banquette seating
Visiting from CT and we wanted to do one really nice dinner, regardless of price. This was the best meal I’ve ever had and I’m still dreaming about the strawberry danish dessert. The service was amazing and the owner (or possibly manager) was also very involved which was refreshing. If I’m ever in Santa Monica again I will absolutely be making a reservation.
First time visit. Food absolutely outstanding with excellent service. Ordered the morel mushroom toast, charred gem lettuce salad and the pork loin entree.....all amazing! Save room for their signature dessert!
Absolutely EXCELLENT food! We can't say enough about the crispy pig tails, the balsamic ribs, fried artichokes, the fried catfish and the ribeye. OMG so delicious!! Service with Jeff was impeccable too. I loved it so much that I'm bringing another visiting family member there in a couple days!
Food was amazing!!! A true gem!!!
Service, food, and ambience were all excellent. Highly recommend!!!
We were recommended Tar & Roses by the bar tender at Heroic down the road(also worth a visit). He recommended the whole red snapper which my wife and i shared. Food, in particular the snapper was amazing as was the service from our waitress who was knowledgeable and not too pushy and good fun too. Slightly expensive but overall v good value. Would recommend everyone give it a try at least once!
Great food, good ambiance. Our server was nice.
Everything was perfect! The food was perfect (we had the dumplings, the crab cake, the snapper, the fried cauliflower, and the chocolate dessert) the service was way over my expectation, the wine selection was incredible. I do not have one single negative comment. Make sure to try the dumpling!
Great service, food was good, but not overwhelmingly amazing like some of the reviews.
Tar and Roses is one of our favorite restaurants. The service and food are always top notch. I highly recommend this establishment,
The food was delicious and very creative. So delicious.
We felt it was a real dining experience.
This is my fifth time at tar and roses. A week ago I would have said this is the best restaurant in west la but I don’t know if it’s wrong ordering or just an off night for these guys
Duck breast - overly salted. We had to send it back
Squid ink fettuccine- nothing special and the portion was small for the price
We had a bday gathering and considering we ordered three desserts in total, only thing comped was the candle
I might start experimenting and discovering new restaurants in La now
John was our wonderful server and recommended delicious items. The cauliflower side and the roasted chicken were 2 highlights. Everything we had was amazing!
Food and service was outstanding. Looking forward to going back.
So good. Food was amazing and inventive. We had a great time and can’t wait to go back.
My friend and I went on a food trip for several days and this restaurant was our last stop. And we both concluded that Tar & Roses is the best.
Food was great. We had a great server. Our steak was still a bit red however we medium well. The manager apologized and we got a free dessert.
We would certainly return here.
Service was outstanding
Wonderful service and amazing food. Every single thing we chose was excellent except for ribs which were just a little bit dry. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Especially with wine choices. Sitting on the patio was absolutely perfect. You must get the dumplings, Squash, cauliflower and gnocchi. And the strawberry Ricotta dessert is out of this world
Superb menu items
All served family style
Very fairly priced for the quantity and quality
Attentive, helpful, and pleasant service
Will definitely go back again - frequently
This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time. We arrived early for our reservation and we were willing to sit at the bar to wait for our table, but they seated us right away. Chris came over and made excellent recommendations and our server, Carly, was as professional and present as you could possibly ask for. She was helpful, but not overbearing. I am from out of town, but it will definitely be a stop on my next visit!
The food and service were both wonderful. Our only issue was that it was too loud. It was very difficult to hear without shouting.
Have been here a few times now and this place never disappoints. The food is amazing, and the service is warm and friendly and the perfect amount of interaction. Johnnie the manager is the man. Thank you, again. See you next time.
We love Tar & Roses - it’s our go-to for special events, or if we have out of town guests. The stand-out dishes at this dinner were the peach/tomato burrata salad and the tuna sashimi. So wonderful. Our only complaint is the dessert selection - only one item is nut-free, and honestly, just not that great. If T&R upped their dessert game, they’d have a solid 5 from us.
Hands down, the best spot in Santa Monica and one of the best in LA. The staff, the owners, the vibe, the food, the wine pairing, the desert, you name it.
They ALL care about the experience you have in their restaurant. I don’t know how else to say it better.
Service was exceptional, food was awesome, had the duck , gnocchis, veggies. Siperb
Excellent staff! From the wine to the food, everyone provides excellent service. The chef is creative and one heck of a nice guy.
Fantastic food and service
We love Tar & Roses so much, it’s one of our favorite restaurants in LA. We have so many food restrictions and they always try to accommodate and help with anything they can. The food is always so delicious and we just love to dine here.
Food and waitstaff was excellent, would recommend the snapper, chicken also looked good.
Food was excellent, great ambience
Great location. Most recommend
Great food with great service. The pigs tail and the ribeye are a must. Great place for any occasions
Great place - great food, great service, reasonable prices given the quality. Our high expectations were exceeded in every regard. We ordered a lot of dishes - probably 8 or 9 - and everything was at least very good, with a couple of really outstanding items - oxtail dumplings, bone marrow and baby artichokes were particularly noteworthy as both original and delicious.
The waiter paced and ordered the courses thoughtfully, and really the entire staff was very friendly and welcoming - no snobbery whatsoever.
The bill with drinks for the 2 of us was around $260, which is about what it should be for one of the top restaurants in LA. We got a gift card for friends, and we will go back ourselves.
Awesome service, amazing food, excellent wine. One of our favorites in LA.
