Wonderful food and great service. Our family had been going to the Tam O'Shanter for years and it never disappoints. We love it especially the C.C. Brown's Hot fudge sundae.
Not only is this an historic tavern in Los Angeles, being the oldest continuing operating on the West Coast, but it is also an authentic Scottish pub, as well as an active and well developed Scotch Whisky curated bar. I was there for a Scotch Malt Whisky Society event, and had dinner afterward with my family. We all enjoyed the meal, and tried the filet mignon, the prime rib, and the Toad in the Hole, which is a Yorkshire pudding baked with a medley of vegetables, onions, and mushrooms with filet mignon cubes. All of these dishes were very good, as were the sides of the roasted baby carrots, the bacon wrapped dates and the onion rings. The wait staff were excellent and we were well taken care of. The ambiance inside is outstandingly old school pub, with lots of wood features and artifacts from by gone times. And by the way, this was one of Walt Disney's favorite spots for lunch and you can find his table under the Imagineers at the Tam poster!
excellent restaurant. suggestion to answer the mails sent.
The table 31 is my favorite drink and it was especially tasty this time around!
Disappointing, both food and service. Very inflexible on side orders with prime rub, prime rib portion seemed really small, burrata portion was also quite small. Waitress forgot our order, didn't pay attention to drinks or flatware. Just a disappointing meal all the way around.
Sarah, our server, was friendly and wonderful with our children.
I’ve been dining at this restaurant my whole life and have witnessed its trajectory from fancy to casual over the last 40 years. For the last 5 years or so the quality of the dining experience has declined markedly. Our diner on Friday was bad. I have had to reduce my beef intake for medical reasons and it was the first time I noticed how few choices one is given if you can’t eat their signature prime rib. The fish and chips were disgusting. The fries were literally soggy. My friend’s rarebit— once a house specialty was almost inedible— greasy and unappealing. I am so very disappointed. We had just arrived from the SoCal Food conference and I was embarrassed to have suggested this old favorite of mine to a group of foodies. The history and beauty of the restaurant remain. But the food is in bad need of an update!
Jennifer provided excellent service. I loved the beer and Scotch tastings. Dinner was excellent. The Scotch Rarebit appetizer was outstanding.
Perfect as usual. Miss not living in the neighborhood anymore, I used to be able to come more often. I miss the lawry's salt in the mail on my b- day too.
Again, Thank You,
you are perfect
As always the food was terrific... done perfectly as requested. The sides were great too. The entire meal was a pleasure.
What more can I say? There is a reason that we return time after time, year after year. Oh that prime rib is good!!!!
The food quality here is always good, and the service usually is, but this time the service could have been a bit better. Both the person at the front that evening and the server either were both having a bad day or were tired because they seemed a little cold like they would have rather been elsewhere. Also, I put down on the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and my VIP# as directed by the app, but I might as well have not put anything down because there was no mention of either one and had to give the server my VIP number again. The people who bused the tables and poured water were pretty great and more personable. The only other downside was whomever boxed my husbands leftovers and only put in the meat and left out his leftover sides. Didn't discover that until he opened the box the next day. We like coming here, so hopefully next time it'll be better.
Excellent food, competent & friendly service. A great place to celebrate & experience a wonderful meal.
Food was amazing, the whiskey sampler was excellent, and the service is wonderful.
Never had been to Tam for lunch before and there is definitely a different vibe and service level than at dinner. Love the Tam but I will be going move for dinner than lunch in the future.
You will never leave here hungry ! To start we had reservations for 7:45pm and we were seated at 7:45pm on a Saturday by a smiling hostess. Menus were on the table, busboy arrived with bread and water. Our server arrived a few minutes later to greet us and get our drink order which was delivered promptly.
From there on we had excellent service and enjoyed expertly prepared and tasty food, Prime Rib, mashed potatoes with delicious gravy, creamed corn and yorkshire pudding . Oh, and of course a great bottle of Pinot Noir from Duckhorn Winery. For dessert we passed on the chocolate souffle and instead asked for the more simple chocolate sundae with 2 spoons. Needless to say we had 2 big boxes of leftovers to take home for Monday night's dinner. Recommendation Five Stars. And no I did not wear my kilts.
It was so good, this was our 2nd trip there in just a few days! Great charm, great food, excellent staff, reasonable prices!
This place is about three decades past the need for a renovation. I get nostalgia, and the decor is charming, but this place needs to be cleaned to the studs.
Awesome service and great food. Will definitely be back.
Wonderful as always. The scotch rarebit is not to be missed.
They advertise Lawrys Prime Rib but the cuts and taste are nothing like Lawrys.
Family owned for 97 years! So much history! Great food, excellent service and so beautiful of a place.
Food was great! Service was great and atmosphere was amazing!
Had a great evening dinner with my husband. This was our second visit and we were not disappointed.. Food taste delicious. Will come again to visit in the near future!
We had the surf and turf special and the Prince Charlie cut roast beef. GREAT!
We have been coming to the Tam for over 40 years. I like my prime rib well done, no pink color at all and moist. It is always cooked perfectly. The cream corn and spinach are the best sides, the chocolate soufflé is the best dessert, so order it at the same time you order dinner as it takes about 45 minutes to bake. It’s worth the wait.
The servers are so accommodating and were always making sure we were happy with the food, drinks, etc. etc.
I also recommend coming for lunch as their sandwich station is fantastic. The server is very generous with the portions.
We went to the Tam O’Shanter to celebrate my husband’s birthday and it was a lovely experience. We actually changed our reservation time at the last minute and they were so nice about it and accommodating. The food was super tasty and the service was very nice.
My very favorite restaurant in the LA area. This is my go to place to eat before the theater, movies or sporting event. The prime rib and cream corn are the best! Love "Devil on Horseback" as a starter. Great atmosphere and bar area too!
The service was great, very little wait time between meals and the staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I’m definitely coming back here again very soon.
I dined with four friends. The overall experience was excellent. There was a minor problem with a few fruit flies around the table with one finding it’s way into my friend’s water. We informed management and they quickly apologized and thanked us for informing them. These things happen sometime and I feel assured the management is taking steps to address the issue. The staff was nice and service was great. Our server was on spot with refreshing our waters and clearing our table. Everyone should make an effort to visit this restaurant.
Wonderful old place. Beautifully appointed wonderful history and long time employees that I know all about it and are willing to share. Lovely meal in beautiful surroundings!
The Scottish Salmon and quinoa was delicious. My son had prime rib medium rare and loved it!
This place is fun! Great food and ambiance with a great history. I look forward to visiting when I'm in town.
Went there for my wife’s birthday. We had a wonderful time!
Always exceptional food and service. Xavier handled our party of 13 with accuracy, humor and finesse.
We had dinner Saturday evening at this classic LA restaurant. I had requested a quiet corner and that’s what we got. Our server was lovely and most attentive. Food was exactly as ordered and arrived promptly. We lingered over drinks, dinner and dessert, never feeling rushed. No surprises, cozy, warm and delicious!
The evening was similar to other times...good service, delicious dining BUT the negative part of the evening was the party of 15 with 7 screaming kids. In the future I, as a Lawry's Prime member, will ask to be seated in a QUIET area of the restaurant.
Went there for dinner..
Used to go there for the sandwich and. But they no longer served the prime rib. So we had the dinner. Both ordered prime rib. Wife sent hers back foaoth piece with the au juice. The gravy was too salty.
Good not great, overprice. Place was almost empty.
Unfortunately, service was terrible.
We had reservations so we were seated right away. It was very noisy. I could hear conversations around me, some customers spoke very loud, which I really did not care for. The great thing about the dinner was Elise, our server, was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and courteous. The food is very good and very much similar to Lawry's on La Cienega, Beverly Hills. I miss the table side carving which I understand since the place does not have enough space for the carving cart to go around.
