What Insiders Are Saying
A Midtown West/Times Square location of this classic New York sushi restaurant. Sushi of Gari is a solid option for the area.
Poor. Server kept pushing us to finish and leave even though it was under 1 hour total and we ordered more than $150. Would put unfinished items onto our plates for us to clear the table. Sushi was mediocre - seaweed lacked any texture and the shrimp tempura made my lips swell upon eating. The ac had also broken this night and the fish was lukewarm, which I hope was because of the rice and not because of fridge issues. Overall negative experience - I was shocked to hear this had any sort of Michelin recommendation/affiliation.
Just made it in before they closed. Tuna Gari was amazing
The staff is targeting Bridge horrible experience for the price, had over $500 check...
Sushi was phenomenal. Waitstaff was very attentive. Excellent service. Highly recommend.
Food was incredible and delicious. I ordered tuna of Gari and it was outstanding
Had a great sushi dinner after a show. Service was very good and the fish was fresh and delicious. Thank you - it's about time a restaurant in the theatre district served up an excellent meal!
Our favorite place to go for sushi as a family
Way too expensive for the quality and quantity of food served.
The food was good - almost very good. But not great. I'll admit I'm a bit spoiled - I live in the Bay Area and only eat sushi at a handful of places that make truly exceptional sushi. I had the Omakase and it was close to what I get on the west coast. But for the cost and the hype I'd read online, I expected it to match or even exceed what I'd experienced.
Gari’s Choice (Omakase) is the way to go! Delicious!
Service was awesome.
Excellent sushi and a unique set of flavors which created just an wonderful experience.
The waitress was able to provide for all our needs, dinner arrived in short order and was delicious. My husband got the "chef's choice" which was the best (and the most creative) sushi he had ever eaten.
Excellent service by Charlie! Made the lunch that much more memorable!!
I have eaten at Sushi by Gari in other neighborhoods many times and have loved it. Sushi of Gari 46 was horrible: the sushi was chewy and nearly inedible. The other food was not even mediocre. I will never go back.
Great sushi, as good as any I've had in Japan. Chef Yoji was terrific.
not worth it
Excellent as alway!
There are better restaurants available for less; to receive the invoice not having asked for gives the impression that you want to Kick out guests; also your cash sYstem which indicates how long a guest is sitting at the table confirms this impression;
A second time: NO
Best sushi we ever had. The concept of Sushi of Gari really works!
Combined with friendly and helpful staff and quick service makes this a unique dining experience.
Great atmosphere and excellent service. Server was attentive and knowledgeable about the sushi.
Really bad experience ! Super expensive for a not even acceptable food! And also they want as to leave soon so they bring quickly the food ... not time to enjoy even the wine! 300 dollars! There is so so many other better options and cheaper in NY.
Awful, just awful, for a place that sushi as well as they do to rush you out in 30 minutes after a show is just to JV
Sushi was very fresh and delicious! Service was fast and attentive.
Fantastic sushi, a cut above most anything else. You pay for it but its worth it.
Exactly what you’d expect out of a high end omakase spot in nyc. Very pricey so be ready.
I would never go back to this place. Very disappointed in the food and overall price
The restaurant was good. Our experience however was not outstanding. The best things were the chef's signature dishes. They were everything they claimed to be. Unfortunately the menu was somewhat limited and other items we ordered did not quite measure up. For the price we expected excellence from all.
Two other quibbles, When we arrived, the restaurant was empty except for 1 table occupied by a young couple. We were seated directly next to these people, basically invading their space. We apologized to the couple and they were gracious and acknowledged the same.
Last quibble, our waitress while polite and attentive did not manage to adequately inform us about the food we were eating. She pointed to the items and named them but when we asked for clarity, she quickly repeated what she had already said, which we hadn't understood the first time. So we did not really know or appreciate what we were eating.
My favorite Japanese restaurant in the world. Love it. Always incredible
Sushi of Gari is absolutely the best sushi in NYC!
service was very good. this restaurant is crowded (you will make new friends on either side of you whether you want to or not). ambiance is nothing special if you want romance go elsewhere. food convinced me that overspending for sushi has to be a commodity that i would sell short. 200+ for two people with small bottle of saki may be your thing .... if so, go.
Omakase was amazing!!! Waiter was very helpful and attentive!!
Went to Sushi of Gari for lunch. It was incredible. The chef made us a plate of 8 pieces of sushi and one roll. Some of the best tasting sushi you will find.
Excellent as always.
Dynamic place, a little noisy, good food, service is basic, bottle of water $12. Service, food, cleanness, atmosphere do not remotely match the pricing.
Food was very good, but first, it was not possible to understand the waitress with her Asian accent at all. Then, after we finally understood that the omakase menu is 105 USD each, she said we can order from the menu, but they only gave us one menu, when it turns out there is another menu with the list of roll options. and then it turned out that you can order single pieces from the omakase options, but this we only found out when we saw our neighbours order...
Always. Always, excellent sushi and very nice waitstaff. Pricy but worth it.
