Fantastic venue, great atmosphere, and solid service. We never felt hurried to finish or move onto the next thing.
Great menu, lots of outdoor space and a welcoming ambiance.
Our server was very welcoming & they relocated tables for us to avoid the direct sunlight. Overall a great team works here.
We really liked the hygiene measures they have in place:
* All waiters wear masks and gloves
* Some tables have been removed to allow physical distancing
* They give you hand sanitizer at the entrance
* You scan a QR code (which is a sticker on the table) to get the menu on your phone
* They disinfect when someone leaves a table
Only problem is that they have no WIFI, that means you need to have Mobile data in order to view the menu. I didn’t have mobile data...
Great spot. Unfortunately we couldn't eat in the atrium, but our server was wonderful.
I loved having brunch here with friends and I will definitely be back
We had an AMAZING experience. I proposed to my girlfriend earlier in the evening and her sister and her sister's fiancee flew in to join the celebration. I made the reservation at Summer House and they made the day so special. They placed us at the table under the "Yes" on the wall. We took our photos and the server brought over champagne my parents had called ahead and ordered for us.
They made us feel special from the beginning, the server was amazing she was patient with us (as you can imagine the texts and facetime happening as the news spread), our glasses were never empty, and she surprised us with desserts she had set aside before they sold out.
The food was amazing, we had brussels sprouts and the burrata to start and pastas (sorry I can't remember which ones) for the rest of us. Lastly, the cookies and Rice Krispy treats for dessert. Overall a great experience, I can't express how happy I am with the service and how they made us feel as special as the day was to us.
We had great service and great food, but we were seated at the pizza section of the restaurant instead of the summer house part.
Me and my friend are from a minority background, we’re Latino. when we were greeted by the hostess it was the perhaps the most coldest and unfriendly greet I’ve ever got from any restaurant. “Yes? 😒”; not an “hi how can I help?!” Or even “how can I help?”.
When we went to he sat down the waiter took about 20 minutes before we even got his attention. The place didn’t look like it was busy either, maybe like 4 other tables besides us. When the waiter finally came, he gave us the question right away with “what can i get you today?!”. Not even telling us his name, or even greeting us the same kind of way 5 minutes before when another couple came after us; friendly, introduction, or even asking if we’re familiar with the place. Me and my friend came to the conclusion, that either because of maybe the staff was extremely busy, or because of our ethnicity. And the restaurant was not busy. It’s a place which we will remember as the place where judged by our skin.
Fun, super great waitstaff!
Food was delicious. Our waiter was fabulous and we want to adopt him.
Loved the fun music and beautiful decor. The staff is so nice and the ambiance is great
It was perfect!
Food was good quality and the price was justified but wasn’t to die for, Bakery was amazing tho
It was nice time, we made reservations and not wait
Great 3rd date. Had a lot of fun. Felt very safe w/ social distancing, masks, and such. Will be back (at a social distance)
Summer House offers an excellent guacamole dip appetizer that includes three sauces to go along with the homemade chips. The Cobb salad is fresh and light too.
Did a great job making us feel safe during these times
Food was decent. Serving sizes were a hair small. Wine was pricey tho. $23 for a 9 oz poor of the house rosè.
We only stopped for drinks in the terrace
Was a lovely night out
Such delicious food along with beautiful scenery and outstanding service! I'll most definitely be back for another spectacular experience!
Food was good, service was good. The open air seating was really nice.
our table was in the sun, no umbrella, so we were uncomfortable
Was great! Not sure why they think a 4% covid surcharge is a good idea though. We asked for it to be removed and gave it to our server instead.
Amazing. Hands down, great service, food and atmosphere.
Service was incredible. Order a variety of dishes because some hit the mark and some fall sort, but it all averages out in the end. Solid choice
This is such a good place to eat during Chicago's reopening. Very large and airy and lots of attention paid to social distancing. And the food and service are still great.
COVID has made for some peculiar circumstances. With the exception of our host, who was very welcoming, the staff at Summer House seemed to be on edge. One got the distinct impression that about half of the staff had no interest in being there. The drinks were fine. The pizza was very good. The skirt steak was a tough, with probably half of the steak ranging from very chewy to inedible. The thin fries were great. The Rigatoni Carbonara was very good but too al dente for my taste. The bakery steward at the front seemed somewhat surly and shut down operations before we were done, probably because business was slow or winding down - or she was bored. The spacing of tables was absolutely in accordance with city guidelines. Which meant that the amount of people able to be seated was easily half or less than normal. The menus are now only accessible via bar-code reader on your smart phone. So, if you don't have that app, download it before you visit. Our server seemed to have other things to do as he never delivered any food - that was done by other staff - and he disappeared for about 20 minutes at the end of our meal. We were done with everything and yet no server. To his credit, he was able to get us a couple of cookies even though the bakery station was shut down. That was our planned dessert and he very kindly comped those as he likely perceived that we had been waiting for his return. Those of us pioneers that choose to venture back out to support our favorite restaurants, are trying to work with you. We tip higher than usual and we're willing to accept the new 4% surcharge based on your lessened income. We also completely understand that there is no bar service, so no bartender in their right mind would go off of unemployment in order to accept a minimum wage salary with no actual tips generated from their service. Servers still rely on our generosity to make ends meet and yes, some people still don't get it. We're all trying to make this work.
Birthday Lunch. Lovely setting. Great food and service. My only complaint is that we waited 25 minutes to be seated despite having made a reservation. This was. Bit annoying but luckily we were not in a hurry.
Great food/drinks! Amazing place for brunch or lunch with the gals!
They are consistent and reliable. Always great for a birthday and very CDC compliant
Nice place! The food was okay.
Always a nice lunch or dinner spot
Pleasantly surprised by the guacamole
So glad to be back at this place! Food and ambiance are the best!
