Have eaten there several times, lunch and dinner. Going for Sunday brunch next. Have recommended to friends who also loved it. Interesting and offbeat with fresh deliciously prepared food.
Unfortunately I cannot give this place a a positive review. It is a very strange vibe/place. The man who greeted us on arrival was very friendly but it got worse from there on out.
Two couples walked in and walked out AFTER sitting.
The music was very off putting/not conducive to a restaurant vibe. The layout of the entire place feels very strange.
I appreciate open concept kitchen this just did not feel right.
Obviously people like this bc of the 5 star reviews here but man, it is not 5 star. And if you think it is you need to try the other incredible restaurants in Fairfield County, for realz.
Great place. Wonderful people. Healthy and organic food. Vegan options. A hidden gem.
We had a party of five and we were all disappointed. Two of us had been three years ago and loved it. Very disappointed this time. Me I had very limited options, prices were way to high for quality and type of food. And the service was lacking. Super disappointing as there are so many wonderful restaurants in Westport that we could have gone to instead.
Loved this place. Decor and vibe is excellent. Creative and cool. This area needed this place. Thank you!! And the food goes without saying was all fantastic, very high quality and prepared with love. Best brunch I’ve had in a while and I’m a brunch snob.
What a spectacular experience! How often do you go out to eat and feel like you went to a friend’s home for dinner? With a menu specific to the night, craft cocktails, an open kitchen where we could see that our food was literally made “for us” not plated from prepped food and the chef/owner present and involved the entire evening was an unexpected adventure. We were traveling and found this gem on open table - intrigued by menu that was posted which featured interesting vegetarian choices for my vegetarian partner we were so pleased with our “find”. We will absolutely go back whenever we are in the area - the attention to detail was evident and the food was wonderful! Easy parking too!
Always one of my favorite places to eat, no matter what the meal. Had a birthday brunch with a friend and we both wanted to try everything on the menu. The skillet pancake with rhubarb compote is my favorite. They always use such fresh local ingredients. Did not have any cocktails as it was a bit early, but there drinks are really good!
Great spot for brunch or "supper" as they call it. I love how they change up the menu frequently with interesting flavor combinations. Service is slow and sometimes you have to remind them of things you ordered that never arrived at the table, but the staff is friendly and welcoming and the quality of the dishes is consistently good.
Simple, creative, masterful and REAL food. Short but broad menu suits a variety of dining preferences. Chef, owner and bartender deftly handle the entire operation in a welcoming, friendly and efficient manner.
Great food in a casual dining atmosphere. Brunch was excellent and we look forward to returning for dinner soon.
Menu for dinner is ultra limited, not just in number of options, but there wasn't a single entree traditional enough for an average eater to know they will like something. I enjoyed my lamb burger, though the slaw that they substituted for potatoes that they didn't have available wasn't very good. My mom thoroughly enjoyed her ratatouille, but my wife's fish was small, doused in butter, and then covered in a tomato sauce that was soupy with no sides for $36. It's a weird place that seems to me to be extremely hit or miss, with such limitations that a miss seems all to likely.
Not for brunch. Food didn’t arrive at the same time. Menu was limited. Kale and eggs were tasteless
What a total treat! from the sparkling water to the amazing coffee and the inventive eggs and delicious kale salad....we loved every bite and cannot wait to return!
There is such a calm, friendly vibe here. The staff is personable and genuinely care that you have a great dining experience. It’s laid back, like you’re at home. Every dish is unique and delicious.
We enjoyed a wonderful Mothers Day Brunch. The food was excellent. The service was a tad slow, but did not take away from our enjoyable experience.
The food here is always delicious. Jen works with local in-season produce and creates interesting and flavorful dishes m. It is always hard to choose what to pick! Best to go with friends and try everything!
We liked the farm to table dining experience and were checking out for a potential wedding party.
Food was great , awesome parking , nice people ! recommend to anyone
Interesting selection of unusual, "clean" food. Quiet, not rushed. Wines that were recommended were right on the money. Overall a really nice night out! Would definitely go again.
loved the quality of the food - exceptional; beverage prices were a bit high; ambiance was funky but we both liked that it wasn't flashy. We will be back!
12:30 on a Sunday morning. NO burger, NO pancakes, No donut puffs. And only 2 other tables with guest so it is not as if the crowds cleaned them out. And found out about the 86'd items only after over hearing the chef in the kitchen. Settled on other items and thought the food was really good. It seems a bit pricey but the quality is excellent, portions are good so worth the $. There were service issues but we might try it again to see if that was just an off day.
I have long wanted to try this restaurant. I’m sorry to say that I won’t return. The open kitchen concept was problematic. I felt like we were surrounded by kitchen clutter. My husband sat facing a plastic tub overflowing with dirty napkins, a garbage can, and a lineup of used coffee presses. I sat directly facing the register and a waste bin overflowing with paper. We dined a little after noon for brunch and were informed that many items from the relatively small menu were sold out. We placed our order only to find that we had been misinformed and yet another main dish was sold out “hours ago” according to the chef, so I had to choose again. When my husband’s entree arrived, he was told yet another side dish was sold out. At this point it was comical. We were only charged for two entrees instead of the three we ordered, which I appreciated. Overall, the food was at best ok.
We made reservations via OpenTable for Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Sugar and Olives. Address: 21 1/2 Lois St, Norwalk, CT 06851 for a party of 4 (3 adults and my 3 year old son) at 11:00 AM EST.
We arrived on time and were seated. Right away you could tell our server was frazzled and unorganized. We were seated at a table in front of the open kitchen so my Mother could see the chef and sous chef cooking. We ordered French pressed coffee & cinnamon donut holes (we requested those be served with our coffee) and then placed our main entrée orders. We waited and waited until 11:40 AM (in the meantime no one came by to explain why our coffee and donut holes were taking so long or to check on us.) We had to ask our server the status of our coffee and donut holes. He then proceeded to bring us what seemed to be someone else’s French pressed coffee order since it was the wrong size and poured us a cup. We had to wait another few minutes for sugar, spoons, and milk. At that point when my Mom asked where the donut holes were (since we requested they be brought out with our coffee and I have a 3 year old son who was patient, yet hungry, asking me when his pancake would be ready), the server told my Mom they had to powder the donuts and then quickly disappeared without an apology or explanation. In addition, the chef looked angry and overwhelmed. At that point, we had enough and got up and left. They didn't care that we left. This is beyond unprofessional and unacceptable and of course we will never dine there again. Of course, Sugar & Olives had time to cancel our reservation on OpenTable so we couldn’t write a review, which I found very interesting. So I contacted OpenTable customer support yesterday afternoon and today received a response and am able to write this review now. Shame on Sugar & Olives...
We love this place. Food is very good! And we love the service as well. We typically go for brunch on Sundays.
What a fabulous spot - terrific food and intimate, warm service with the owners front and center. Food was outstanding and wine and cocktails top notch. There is a big function room at the entrance which makes the restaurant feel a bit empty but when you get to the main part it’s beautifully designed - you are basically in their kitchen. I felt like I was in Europe. First class.
Wonderful farm to table. You can see everything being cooked. Trusted ingredients, delicious flavors. Great casual brunch spot.
Seven of us for brunch. Food was very good. Tasted homemade with some atypical flavors, so it was nice to try something different. Room was a little odd, but relaxed and inviting. Would definitely go back.
Always a wonderful meal, only minor quibbles: menu is very limited, but that’s largely due to the seasonal ingredients/availability. Can be drafty on cold nights. Still - an under appreciated gem.
One of the best spots in Fairfield county, very glad we found it.
We had a great meal at Sugar and Olives. The owners were so nice and welcoming! We look forward to returning soon!
Extremely inconsistent. Lamb burger was terrific. On another visit, swordfish puttanesca was very good but our pre-food cocktails didn't arrive until just after our appetizers came which threw off our wine game plan. Last visit, Cod puttanesca was flavorless and not puttanesca. Braised short ribs were a little dry and had no braising liquid (also arrived without the carrots which were part of a 3 ingredient dish; polenta, carrots and short rib chunks). Service is uneven but very friendly. The cocktails were terrific. The wine list is limited but diverse enough for most people to find something they like.
Creative options. Food was very good. I rarely have more than 1 cup of coffee in a day and I had 2 huge cups. I will come back.
Food is great and locally sourced. Looking forward to trying brunch.
Slightly eclectic, totally locally sourced creative cuisine. Menu varies by what the chef is able to procure. Toffee pudding is a must for dessert.
AWESOME EXPERIENCE - WE WERE THERE ON A DATE NIGHT, FOOD & DRINK WAS AMAZING
Wouldn't recommend this restaurant. The menu is quirky and WAY overly-prices for what they're offering. It's farm to table. Wanted something different from the usual bacon, eggs and French toast, but unfortunately, this wasn't it. Went for Sunday brunch and the "pancake" I ordered was about 2 inches thick, dry and completely tasteless. My companion got the English breakfast, very nondescript. I enjoy new experiences and don't mind paying for it but here I felt ripped-off in every way.
The cocktails we had, a bloody Mary and a mimosa were very good.
Will never return.
Our meals were excellent. A small menu with a lot of variety. We ordered most of the dishes from the menu for the table and enjoyed all of them!
The food wasn’t as good as our past experiences. The omelettes came with nothing—no toast or potatoes—but were still quite pricy.
GREAT FARM TO TABLE.. FOOD WAS YUMMY SALAD PORTION ON THE SMALLER SIDE..
