Great food. Had a selection of foods as there was 6 of us and all of enjoyed what we had ordered. Service was good and friendly staff.
Lovely staff, great food for a good price, very happy!
The Strand Tandoori is an old school Indian restaurant which is, in no way, a bad thing.
The food itself is excellent but some of the portions are rather small - oddly, the more expensive items.
Overall good though, as it's really central and a nice place to eat.
Best Indian food we’ve had in London.. tight seating but the food is phenomenal
Service is very personal
I think the one server was the owner and he picked a few items for us to try never steered us wrong
From the outside you might be skeptical since it’s kinda plain but go for it!
I've been visiting this classic curry house for decade's. It's a bit tired and doesn't advertise itself very well but once in and seated it's an outstanding 'no frills' curry house. Always ready to table a group after a night out.
There was quite a bit of a wait time considering the number of people in the restaurant, but the food was good once it arrived. Though the service was slow, the server was kind and friendly. The food was a little costly for what we got, but tasty nonetheless.
Great reviews on line. But I would say it was average - not good enough to go back.
My friends, visiting from France, and I had a wonderful dinner at Strand Tandoori - the service was excellent and the delicious meals arrived very promptly. I would thoroughly recommend as a quick go-to for a flavoursome curry in the West End!
If it's good enough for Gary Lineker, it's good enough for me.
Decent food, but we showed up at a bit after 10 after the theatre, booked for 10:30.
They didn't seem to be aware of our booking, seated us anyway, and tried their hardest to get us in and out as fast as possible so they could go home. We were there for a bit under 45 minutes in the end. We wanted a relatively fast meal, but the constant overbearing pressure overshadowed it all.
I've never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant.
As per usual food very good, friendly waiters and reasonably priced. Excellent !!
Traditional curry house in the West End, has been around since the 70s, it’s pretty old-school but it’s got it where it counts. The place is rickety and noisy (good atmosphere though) but most importantly the food and service were good and the bill wasn’t too steep.
Food was acceptable, service was shocking, place was scruffy and grubby. Only survives because of its great location and its non reliance on repeat custom.
I have been to the Strand Tandoori a few times now and the food is excellent, reasonably priced and the waiters are on hand to deal with your every needs. A great place to dine in and good location.
As expected it is a grimly decorated restaurant and service not that friendly but the food was good. An expensive area so expected the prices. The house wine I had was rough and didn’t agree with me. Close to the theatres so might go back if we can’t find an alternative.
It was very chaotic when we arrived and we were told they were short staffed, never a good thing to hear when you have booked a restaurant for a pre theatre meal. We were shown to a table upstairs which was quieter than downstairs. However, they had a walk ie talkie on so it was like having a meal in a Police control room. I ( and other customers) asked at least 5 times if it could be switched off. White wine was not in the least bit chilled. The Aloo Chaat starter was very strange , a sort of watery potato curry. Waited ages for main course. It was ok. Vegetable Balti was ok if you like potato and onion, the main ingredients. As we were finishing our meal we heard the waiter tell the guy on the next table that their card machine was not working and that he would have to go down the road to get cash out. We did not have time so may friend, who I had invited to the restaurant ended up paying as he had cash. Avoid at all cost.
Chaotic service, cold food. Would not go back. They included a service charge that was not deserved.
Great food prepared with care. Wonderful rich flavors. Restaurant is small it and filled up quickly. Good value and convenient for pre theatre
Totally lacking in atmosphere and food just okay .
The best Indian food I have had so far. The flavours were amazing,Compliments to the chef.
The staff were welcoming and friendly and the waiter remember one of the party from a previous visit . The food came out at the right pace and was cooked just right. However, the portion size this time around was smaller than my last visit. Apart from that we had an enjoyable experience.
The food and service were very good.
A business lunch. Unrushed service, quality food at a reasonable price for the location.
Ate here while traveling and before a show. We shared two chicken dishes (madras and tikka masala) and a vegetable side of aloo gobi with rice and nan. The food was great! Spiced and seasoned beautifully, you could taste the nuances in each dish. Believe them about the spice levels. This was my husband’s second experience with Indian food and he is now asking where we can get food like this in that States. We were accidentally marked no show for the the reservation, but otherwise perfect.
Had a pre-theatre meal here and the food was very good. I find the British Indian restaurants better than the US Indian restaurants generally. This restaurant is not one of those "Indian Palace" places; just good, honest Indian food. Staff was excellent and it is good value for the price.
They didn’t seem to know about our OpenTable reservation, but seated us right away. They were doing a very hectic pre-theatre business, but they managed to get our food to us on time. They were working at top speed! Food was good and freshly prepared.
Great authentic Indian cooking, love the prawn dhansak. Cosy indian restaurant with great central location.
Lovely classic Indian meal, located centrally and easy to get to. Staff very friendly and chatty, felt like being in a local neighbourhood restaurant rather than just off Covent Garden.
Good if not innovative food, great service, very nice staff and waiters and a real find for 20 people!
Very mediocre all round ! Plus upset tummys. Tired old place , nothing special
First impressions were " ohh" well were here now , and sadly it didn't get any better. To be fair the wine we had was good but apart from that advise would be give this place a miss !
Really good food as always. Not much to look at from the outside but the best King Prawn Tandoori in London.
Very friendly helpful staff, booked as a pre-theatre meal. Upon arrival it was empty, however, filled up very quickly. Dinning area is small and cramped when restaurant is full. Ladies toilet you have to go outside and up the staircase to the first floor. When we finished our meal, coffee was included however they said they did not have time to make the coffee so offered us tea. When we had finished our meal we also felt rushed to pay and leave as they wanted the table. Generally the food was good, and we enjoyed the meal.
Excellent food and decent service. Good value for money
Goog food from a large menu, but noe other guests and bright lightning.
Hmmm was okay food but service was slightly rushed as we had quite a late booking (22.00) Decor could do with an update. Not what I expected for a restaurant in this area.
I booked the restaurant as we were visiting London. I found the details on-line & previous reviews were good. Mr Miah was friendly & helpful. After a busy day it was just what we needed. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
Food was AMAZING. We were a bit early for our reservation. Thank goodness because we beat the crowd.
The food was fine, standard curry that is hard to get wrong but it was well prepared. However, the staff were firstly quite rude and then it took over and hour and a half for our meals to arrive. Frankly, there isn't much excuse for that with a table of eight people when only one other table in the restaurant was occupied. I'm willing to acknowledge it may have just been an off day, but when there are so many other offerings nearby, the very mediocre decor and the apparent ambivalence of the staff to our presence does not make it likely that I will return there any time soon. As a very minor aside, the restaurant staff informed OpenTable that we had missed our booking, which I had to clarify. All signs point to a poorly run restaurant with a moderately talented chef whose abilities somehow don't succeed in compensating for its myriad other failings.
Taken to a dirty upstairs room we should have walked out then! The atmosphere was manic from staff running around and customers trying to get their attention. Comprehensive menu and food was ok but when we're were taking our final bites the bill was flung on the table and we were pressurised into paying (despite it being pretty empty!). 3 dining, one wanted to use a card and the other two cash but the waiter asked if we could put it all in card and take the cash???? No... He then grumpily walked off and took ages finding the card machine. Service was awful! Would never return!
Solid Indian restaurant in London's west end with good value for money.
