Stony Hill Inn - NJ
Overall the food was good. The service was substandard this night. If the waiter had no intention of paying attention to empty wine glasses then he should have put the wine bucket closer to the table so we could pour as needed. He seemed overwhelmed and we had to ask for bread, refills and the desert was supposed to come with berries and it didn't so once again had to ask for them to be brougth out. When I pay this much for dinner I expect the service to be top notch.
Came here to celebrate our anniversary. Asked to be seated by the fire place and we did! Very good portions for the quality and price. We will definitely come again soon!
Food was very good. Service was very shaky. I am having a hard time understanding why the tablecloth was paper. Hand cut or torn and hung over the edge. Very uncomfortable. This used to be a top notch gourmet restaurant. Things change I guess.
The food was excellent!!! The wait staff was very attentive and addressed any issue. The music was very loud, they couldn’t lower it so they shut it off.
Definitely will be going back soon!!!
Love Stony Hill and have been there a number of times. This was brunch. Mimosas were good. Salad bar was uninteresting. Hot food ok but nothing spectacular. The egg white omelet that I had was undercooked and really not tasty. Fruits for chocolate fountain were almost gone and deserts were mediocre. No more brunch there for me.
The service was absolutely wonderful I wish I can recall our servers name she was a delight. Food was mediocre at best.
Another great time, love this place. Joe’s Meatballs are a must!
The waiter was not really friendly, especially when i told him i was allergic to garlic!
My husband had meat with roasted potatoes. In fact they were not roasted by sautéed by still raw. I was supposed to get a sea bass for $38.00. It appeared to be a piece of cod!
We frequent the place quite a lot. Never disappointed.
Plesant atmosphere. Bartender was attentive without being overbearing. He made sure my drink order was correct
Food excellent but the halibut was very rich but overall good food. Ambience super as was service. Good value
Birthday celebration. Great brunch.
Excellent food and service in beautiful place
We went for our 1st Anniversary for brunch. Stony Hill Inn is special to us because that is where we had our wedding reception. The service is excellent and friendly and the food is delicious
Excellent food, attentive service, and terrific atmosphere made for a wonderful anniversary dinner.
Ive been to the Stoney Hill Inn at least a dozen times. My last two visits were less than expected. However, this last visit changed my mind. I will revisit soon!
A classic continental dining experience. Food is consistent.
Seems to be more of an event venue - 2 parties in the banquet area, 1 of the dining rooms blocked with a screen for a family celebration.
Bar is comfortable... excellent service and attention. Dining is great.Would like to see the return of “jackets required” on Sat nite although I understand the need for customers. Something special about that. Oh well ....see you in a “couple”.Al Margino.
We were celebrating our anniversary which was at the Stony Hill Inn 20 years ago. The menu selections were disappointing. The Caesar Salad seemed to have boxed croutons and could have used some fresh Parmesan shavings. The beef carpaccio was dry. I order surf and turf and the lobster tail was over broiled because it was brown all over. We expected the food in the restaurant to be more gourmet but it was just typical catering food. For such a special establishment, we wished the meal would have been just as special.
We got married there 20 years ago and mentioned that when we made the reservation on Open Table. Not even a glass of wine or free dessert. It Would have been nice for them to have acknowledged that in some way. We also mentioned it to our server and the manager, all they offered was as tour of the premises. A bit disappointing in that regard.
Our Server, Gus, was excellent!!
Always a good place to go for great food and ambiance.
Professional attentive service. Great wine suggestion to go with our tasty and abundantly stacked meals.
The Stony Hill Inn has a good reputation and has been around for a long time. It's been a while since I last visited so I decided to reserve a table for a business dinner. The house and the newer additions are pretty but there is a distinct "old" smell as soon as you get inside. Luckily after a few minutes, it wasn't noticeable anymore. We were seated at a nice table by the window and the waiter came over and handed us menus. We started off with appetizers. The fried calamari was delicious but the stuffed Italian long hot peppers (listed under sides) were disappointing. As an ameture cook, I could make them taste much better. The main courses were much better. The portions were large and everyone enjoyed their meal. We had to ask the waiter to refill our drinks and water several times throughout the evening (when we were able to find him). A very large party came in and they were very loud which made conversation within our small group of 3 more challenging. The dinner plates had not been cleared when the waiter handed out dessert menus. It felt as if he was rushing us. I rated the Stony Hill Inn as a 3. It was OK. With so many other dining options in the area, I won't be recommending it and won't be back for a while.
Stony Hill Inn is a very pretty venue. We sat at a table in the bar area, the room is warm and inviting with it's fieldstone walls. The seating where the buffet tables are set up is lovely as well. Wish that some of the buffet items were labeled. Foods such as bacon and french toast are easily discernible, but not all the items were. Loved the chocolate fountain and the pancakes. We were under impressed with the service. Had to flag someone down to ask for coffee. We were never asked if we wanted refills on our mimosas or coffees. There were plenty of servers watching the tennis match on tv and perhaps that was the issue. We expected much better service, especially when automatic 20% service charge is added to a $30 per person brunch.
Used to be a great “fine dining” place years ago. Went for our anniversary and it was average at best. Too many others in Bergen County have passed them by. Sad as I was born and raised a couple of miles away.
You can’t go back.
Quaint family environment great food and service. Reminiscent of the yesteryears.
The place is just lovely but took a while for food to arrive....a bit noisy in the room we were in and the waiter had a hard time hearing us...but food was delish....a bit pricey....but still delish.....great for a party as well.
The service was slow the place wasnt crowded.
The actual drink order was taken 20 to 30min after we were seated.
The appetizer order was brought out incorrect and some of the entrees were over cooked dry and lousy.
The music was great, the ambiance wonderful.
If I had not ordered food it would have been a better ecperience.
25th wedding anniversary
We sat in the bar area, as per our request and we enjoyed a delicious dinner while listening to live music.
We had a very nice lunch with friends and the afternoon was fine. The food and service were very good and we continue to return to Stony Hill Inn because of the consistent level of quality.
It was very loud , the food took very long to come to the table from start to finish. The main course arrived sort of dry. The ambience was disappointing to see people dressed in T-shirts and shorts.... unfortunately we would not be coming back.
Lovely ambiance . Enjoy pipe room which is near dancing but not as loud. Good food. Always enjoyable.
Great place for music and food!
Overall great experience. Food was excellent. Band was GREAT but volume could have been a tad lower. A few odd things happened like I asked for wine list, it was given to someone else. There was a situation with the ladies bathroom door and our guest was made to feel like it was her fault. Just a few more little things that if didn't happen would have made the expressive excellent. Will definately return.
Michael, the waiter, was probably the best and most gracious host we've had...and I've been to many places throughout the world in my lifetime, worthy praise and appreciation.
Food was decent. Service was very friendly. We were forced to sit in the bar area due to a wedding and a private event. On a Saturday night they have live entertainment which is not "quiet background music". It was quite difficult to have a dinner conversation sitting in the middle of Studio 54
Food was very good and our waiter (Gus) was excellent. Our table was located in the room adjacent to the bar--not as nice ambiance as the separate dining dining room.
I’ve been here often and usually take Friends here for a special occasion - this time was for Secretary’s Day! The Girls loved it and couldn’t believe the quantity of food for a lunch! But the quality and taste outbeats the size ! Another great meal and good service !!
