Truffle was used in the Greek’s kitchen. According to philosopher Plutarch of Chaeronea, the precious and rare fungus was born from a combination of natural elements such as heat, water and lightning. With so many different popular beliefs regarding about truffle, a common tale was told that truffle was a food of the devil and witches; and a corrupt outgrowth of the soil.

During the Renaissance period, truffles were served on many prestigious banquets all over Europe. Truffle was called “garlic of the riches”, for its smell and slightly similar to the plant. In France, the trans- Alpine state found black truffles and Piedmont region found the white ones. Which led to a century later, the white truffle of Piedmont was considered “one of the most valuable truffles” by all the courts of Europe.
