Family of four for an evening meal- it’s a lovely restaurant , super staff and the food was delightful. Lovely flavours, tasty combinations of ingredients- we all loved our food and would have the same again. We had cauliflower and gorgonazola soup truly delicious, duck main, steak main, monkfish and sea trout- we all loved it. No room for desserts but will starve all day next time so have space to enjoy more.
We had a fabulous evening meal from the Scratch menu - we loved that the restaurant was committed to making use of their left over produce and at £25 for 3 courses it's amazing value. Wine was lovely but quite punchy at around £14 upwards for a small glass. Decor was beautiful and the staff we really accommodating, will definitely go back.
Somerset House is such a beautiful building & even better having the lovely restaurant Spring. A calm oasis to enjoy a fine early dinner. The 3 course Scratch menu is excellent value for tasty seasonal food that is beautifully presented. The service was attentive without being intrusive & the staff were knowledgeable & happy.
This was a really wonderful meal. Imaginative use of fresh ingredients. We had the scratch menu and loved the combination of flavours. Excellent service and a lovely spacious and light venue. Highly recommended.
Pre theatre dinner. Excellent food, great fun. Been twice in the last 3 weeks!
Very friendly, personable and attentive staff.
Sadly, food was massively underwhelming especially in relation to the steep price: zero wow factor combined with the fact that main course arrived tepid. I had to conetnt with a virtually cold serving of monkfish accompanied by unpleasantly dry, hard and altogther unpalatable savoy cabbage, the disappointment having been made worse by the fact that savoy happens to be one of my favourite vegetables.
Spring is a lovely space but it must do much better quality of food-wise. If an average two-course dinner costs ca £100 per person you cannot afford to be complacent.
We went at 5.30 before going to a concert and had the three course scratch menu for £25 per head. This was excellent and the portions just right for an early dinner. Glasses of wine were reasonably priced and the service was very good and friendly. The restaurant is beautifully laid out. All in all it was faultless. Would strongly recommend as somewhere to eat pre theatre.
delicious seasonal food! great decoration! fantastic staff
Have visited many times. Of course, the food is top notch. Good flavours, combinations and appearance. But it is 1 - THE QUIET and 2 - The TABLES are NOT on top of one another. Both these are RARE in a London restaurant. The put a lot of thought into the acoustics. Why more restaurants don't is beyond me. Surely you go out to talk/listen to your companions?
Finally, the service is both efficient and friendly.
What not to like?
An interesting menu with exciting variety. The food was incredible as were the cocktails. Front desk welcoming and friendly. Wait staff were good but a little absent at times. Loved the non-stuffy service and relaxed atmosphere.
Lovely delicious food. Well cooked and presented. Small portions, but that's what I imagined from a scratch menu so was to be expected. Would recommend.
We chose the set lunch which was terrific value for money.
Each course was really delicious with unusual combinations of flavours that worked really well together. It was my first time eating onglet and it was fabulous.
Service was friendly but professional and my group of friends and I had a really great lunch experience.
We had a fabulous long girls lunch and felt thoroughly well looked after. Started with a lovely selection of homemade breads and then all had the river trout with beetroot - absolutely delicious - washed down with the very reasonably priced Rose (first on the list) two of us had room for more - the ice cream selection and ginger cake were to die for. A beautifully decoratated airy space with fabulous lights. Excellent service all around.
Yes - nice, simple decor and the food was delicious. The waiters were very attentive but my only complaint is that they were not very discreet. They frequently interrupted our conversation to ask us what we wanted and leaned across people to fill up wine glasses, etc. Unfortunately the training of staff in this capacity was not equal to the level of the food.
We attended for pre theatre
We had our starters before any wine arrived and had to ask three times for the bill.
We were told ‘ oh I forgot to ask if you wanted bread..,’ half way through our mains...
That’s just for starters..,,
Great food - lovely setting- indifferent service - expensive for experience
I took a family member for a birthday meal and we had a lovely lunch and were very well looked after. The dining room is gorgeous. The set lunch was good value, service excellent and delicious and the front of house staff were very attentive and accommodating in looking after some of our possessions while we visited the Collect Fair next door. The simplicity and the superiority of the ingredients shone though in a thoughtful, tasty menu. The rhubarb ice cream and perfectly cooked onglet and the use of roast quince in the starter salad were particularly memorable.
Food was good because where is it in case I will texture and very well presented.
The house wine was excellent value.
The service was attentive Without being fussy. I look
Forward to my next visit.
As always a great place for dining. We have been coming here for many years now and enjoyed introducing our kids and grandchild to Spring, this year.
We enjoyed our experience at Spring.
The service is attentive and the restaurant is beautiful.
We went for the Scratch Menu. This is good value for money for central London however the food didn’t blow us away. We loved the concept but I have definitely had better tasting food. Whilst beautifully presented, it wasn’t the most interesting menu - a sort of bruchetta, a veggie curry and a lemon tart. All ok.
I would still recommend as the menu changes daily. Unfortunately on our day, is wasn’t that exciting but if we come again, we may get luckier.
Beautiful room. Lovely food
My wife and I visited Spring for lunch to celebrate Zoe's birthday. The service was warm and friendly and superbly attentive from the moment we were welcomed at the reception desk to the moment we were waved goodbye. Spring is classy yet relaxed, with a wonderful ambience. The clientele were a lovely mix of people. The food and wine was delicious. At each course it was hard to choose what to eat as all the dishes looked so enticing. The style and feel of Spring is light and airy. I loved the design of the restaurant and the staff's uniforms too. It all added to a wonderful experience. we will definitely return, and would recommend Spring to our friends. Thank you.
Great food. Great atmosphere. Fair price. Service, while attentive, was a bit scattered among lots of people.
Had the Scratch menu. Starter and main very good. Dessert a bit odd. Trish, the waitress was excellent.
Fabulous food! And managed to fix me up with vegetarian options. So good!
The scratch menu is fantastic value for money and all done in great time to go on to a theatre.
Dated food. Expensive. Front of house dressed as sailors
The restaurant is beautiful and chic, the food was just outstanding. Highly recommend the tortellini and beef fillet as well as the potatoes on the side.
Outstanding. Incredible food and impeccable service.
It was a fantastic dinner. Both me and my girlfriend were satisfied with the spring restaurant. The food was delicious and the waiter was gentle. We had a wonderful Valentines day there.
Valentine’s Day dinner - food was excellent and I live the room and ambience of this place. Service is generally very good here but they did forget to bring the wine we had ordered on this occasion.
Spring has a fresh friendly feel - it’s livery
but you can hear yourself talk. The menu
was limited in scope particularly if not a meat eater. Detail was missing in food experience and presentation which was disappointing.
Staff are polite and attentive, but overly so. Too much attention at times. Desert was a highlight.
Scratch menu was good value but not particularly exciting
We visited to enjoy the Scratchings menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. The service is particularly outstanding along with the ambience of the room. Highly recommended.
We had the pre theatre scratch menu and it was delicious. 4 of my party had not been before and they all said that they would go again
A really beautiful room in Somerset House. Attentive staff and great food. Will definately come again.
Recommended with reservations. The menu is different and interesting. The wine list is acceptable. It is not cheap. It is convenient, next to Somerset House and accessible to Waterloo. I invited three fellow judges because I had dined there twice before Christmas with good results. Their views were less favourable than mine.
BUT the dining experience was severely damaged by an increase on the tipping % from 12 1/2 % to 13 1/2 % being slipped in to the invoice. (I could not, or did not, see it on the menu.) When challenged the Manager informed us somewhat haughtily that this had been raised on 1 January 2020. It is of course only advisory but I suspect it slips past many people without them noticing or they are not willing 'to make a scene'. The consequence of an increase of 1% is not huge you might think but there is a principle involved. Tipping levels have been creeping up, and I think this is not the first step too far.
PLUS if a restaurant is going to try to benefit its waiters through customers, rather than by paying a proper wage, it should ensure that they are adequately trained. Avoiding having two different waiters reach across a diner and between two people speaking should be an early lesson.
And just in case you are thinking what a curmudgeonly bunch, we tipped what we thought appropriate in cash, in spite of the distinctly frosty response to our comments.
Spring Restaurant is in a god location and has clearly thought about the decor and overall presentation of the restaurant and staff. What this comes together very pleasingly the atmosphere was a little lacking - this may not be typical. The food though was fantastic, ask the of us enjoyed each of the courses that we chose with good quality ingredients, cooked and seasoned well. The food alone will make us go back.
