Inspired by the underground eateries around Bangkok’s night markets, Soi 38 features creative Thai street foods, hearty Thai favorites and a bar program featuring draft and bottled cocktails to DC’s West End neighborhood.
The name Soi 38 is based on the iconic street food district and night market of the same name in Bangkok. As evening falls in Thailand, the Soi 38 night market transforms into a high energy, open-air food market crowded with stalls and rickety furniture where vendors dish out authentic Thai food favorites until the early-morning hours.
Sunday - Thursday: 11:00am - 10:00pm

First timer and it won't be my last. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. My meal was hot, flavorful and excellent portions.
Great!! Food was amazing and place was beautiful.
Good: Menu goes beyond typical Thai restaurants; good service; reasonable price for downtown location; pretty good quality. Not so good: too much noise when place filled up (painted walls, hard floors, loud diners, etc. make it virtually impossible to talk); too much sugar in food even in curries and sauces thickened with so much sugar for American diners who grew up with chicken nugget dips; and still giving out straws unnecessarily.
Thoroughly deserves the psitive reviews that I had read beforehand. Great place to kick back, relax, and enjoy some delicious Thai food.
Incredibly delicious and flavorful dishes, friendly and helpful service, a long list of inventive cocktails, and the prices are fair to boot. Definitely recommend.
Great meal with excellent food. Papaya salad and sticky rice just hit the spot! I had crispy duck, and would recommend. The only part that wasn’t great was the drinks. The potted ones were a little gimmicky, and the mojito was too sweet.
Among the four of us, we had a table appetizer, two shrimp dishes and two other dishes. The appetizer was OK, but the shrimp in both the dishes were overcooked and the rice was dry. The service was very good and we appreciated the election of beverages, but the food could use some closer quality control before it left the kitchen.
The décor is very nice. The food is very good, and service was fast. Good spot for a lunch during a work day.
It was my husband’s birthday, and I took him there. We loved the food and ambiance. We are vegetarians, and they made the best vegetarian curries (red and green). I would highly recommend this place if you’re a thai lover like us :)
Enjoyed the duck and pork necks. Staff was accommodating in moving us indoors after the DC Summer mosquitoes chased us away. But for the most part the service here is slow and inattentive.
Excellent food. Loved the duck and my friend loved his pad thai.
Nice atmosphere. Not crowded. Good privacy at tables. Service was friendly but a bit slow and inattentive -- we had to go off in search of waiter to bring the check. Food inoffensive but unimaginative. Hard to get tasty food at a Thai restaurant if you don't want it also spicy.
Had a business lucheon - seated immediately, food was outstanding! Service is very attentive and professional. Soi 38 has become a favorite!
Really enjoyed the food. The amount of spice was spot on and generous portions.
The service the few times I've gone to Soi 38 has always been great and the food is awesome! There are so many things that look good I can't decide and my friend who is vegan was please with all the options available to her.
Excellent food in a stylish, yet casual environment. Friendly and helpful staff. We loved it.
Great food, good prices and drinks!
We've been to Soi several times, mostly for pre-theater (KC) dinners. We wanted a light meal at 5:00 PM, so we choose the Tum Yum Goong soup starters followed by the Thai style grilled catch of the day (Rock Fish)/ grilled and an Eggplant with Ginger side dish. The food was tasty, but really mild to our taste. Server was pleasant. Surprisingly, however, when the fish arrived (whole, as expected), he did not even offer to debone and serve it to the tow of us!!! Highly unusual in a high-end restaurant. I'd come back, but would not order the same dish again.
Out of draft Dogfish 60 IPA and Singha, unfortunately, but the draft Sapporo was fine. We had the minced basil chicken (really delicious) and the crispy duck (excellent). The satay was good but not great. Smallish drinks but the mojito was decent size and we loved it. Overall quite good. It's been a challenge finding good Thai in DC. Soi 38 fits the bill.
Out for a late bite w the kids... I The mood for Thai & found them through OT. Great food - some staples (done well) and several dishes that were new to us. Overall, good experience would definitely do again
The food was outstanding. We ordered the Thai style catch of the day as our main course. It was delicious. Cocktail drink selection is very creative. I ordered a Classic Singapore Sling and it was so so.
Authentic, tasty Thai street cuisine in an upscale setting.
Good food and drinks. A bit spicy for little ones so be sure to specify the spice level.
The place was very nice. Place was nice and easy to find. Server was very sweet. The food was very flavorable and came out fast and hot. Medium is HOT could not eat my meal because it was very spicy. Do not be fooled. Go with no spice!!! Even the one pepper was hot hot! Overall very good!
Old friend’s visit. We came early, hoping to avoid the noisier diners, but a large party came in a few minutes later. Still it was very nice. I especially appreciated them finding seats more comfortable for me (I’m disabled) and a place largely out of the way for my walker. Overall, we had a lovely dinner and visit.
The food was delicious and they were extremely nice about us having an extended reunion dinner. Thanks so much!
I love Soi 38. But on this particular occasion the portions seemed smaller and the food was lukewarm at best.
The food and cocktails were amazing! I highly recommend the bottles cocktails!
Good food. Excellent service. A notch up from the typical Thai Restaurant.
Nice place for thai food. Fast service. Nice ambiance.
Dined with 3 others and we all ordered different meals. The presentation of each was great and each diner said their food was delicious. Pricing was reasonable and the service was great. Will definitely dine their again (or do take out) soon.
Had a great time. Hidden gem. Good happy hour menu and priced-well. Will definitely be back for another lunch and happy hour.
Great service and even better food. Had the Kua Kling, and it was one of the best Thai dishes I have had in the US, coast-to-coast. Great spice, but also depth of flavors.
Restaurant had large noisy party, approximately 60 people. Host reluctantly seated us outdoors. Eventually, server took our order. Disappointed that this Thai restaurant had run out of Thai beer! Would not return.
Unusual, and delicious Thai food... not the Americanized old standards. Fun craft cocktails, too!
A shrimp appetizer was good as was a duck appetizer, but main courses were terrible, probably because they were fried ( duck and chicken)z
The went there for a late lunch / early dinner. The service was great and timely. Server suggestions were all good and food was absolutely great and fresh. Certainly will go back and would recommend to friends.
I’ve eaten at Soi 38 for lunch a few times but I had never taken the family before yesterday. I took the family here for Mother’s Day to try something different from the standard brunch fare. When I asked how everyone’s food was my 13 year old son replied, “this is some quality shrimp fried rice.” A ringing endorsement indeed.
Waitstaff was helpful and friendly and the food wonderful!
