What Insiders Are Saying
If you like fine dining done Soho-style, you’ll like Social Eating House. The low-lit room is a great place to relax with a drink and some food.
A brilliant meal from start to finish! Everything was delicious from the pre-theatre set menu, service was very warm and friendly, and efficient too. A very good value meal with no faults.
To be served fish as a vegetarian is not ideal.
I went for the set lunch menu and it’s an excellent value for money! It was £28 for 3 courses and i was so full i couldn’t finish my meal. Food and cocktails were both amazing!
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, presentation & taste were amazing. Attentive service and fantastic selection of wines available.
This was a great and relaxed environment for occasions or just to have dinner. The service was excellent and food great for those that don't like their plates piled high!
Great lunch menu with good choices. Amazing wine list of you pay for it. Great staff. Highly recommend.
Starter and main course were fantastic, service was excellent and attentive. The dessert was interesting! I had the fixed course lunch, and didn’t appreciate getting ripped off with the bill.
Social eating house still has one of the best set lunches anywhere in London - 3 courses and a (very good) cocktail for £36 is hard to beat. The food is always excellent, with a nice rotating menu and the drinks are a blast. That said I find their sweet desserts can be a bit average, so better to opt for the cheese course in lieu.
This restaurant just didn’t have their act together. Poor service, food lacked creativity and flavor. We waited over 1 hour to get just our apps.
Pleasant experience. Good food , excellent service. Some items pretty pricey
Food was fair but was expecting better based on Michellin star. Starter was ok (Gazpacho with fish, sounded amazing but seemed to lack a punch, was slightly bland), Main was very good (Rump steak was very tasty good quality meat cooked well, Duck fat chips were amazing, pepper corn sauce also tasty....not sure about the bowl of lettuce/leaves accompanying it. More chips or something else hot and savoury). Dessert was poor (Strawberry cheesecake/sorbet, again read and sounded like a good idea - think it was meant to be a contrast of sharp/sour and sweet but mainly just overly sharp/bitter - think the dusting on it caused this as there was a lot). Nice wine. In fairness, based on a very quick review of other potential venues, the pre-theater seemed reasonably-priced in terms of other London offerings. The wine option definitely makes it so. But having said all that, I do not think the meal I got was Michellin-standard, which even allowing for London prices, I would have expected. Cocktail bar upstairs was a pleasant area, drinks were fine, the menu seems slightly limited in terms options and also limiting itself to sweet and less-complex cocktails (Rola Cola/Blu Wicked replicated/ even the tequila option was non-risqué). My fault as I did not research the drinks menu in advance but I would have preferred more variety and some of the more original cocktail options (whiskey sours/old fashioned/margaritas/Vesper etc)
Really enjoyed social eating house. The wait for our food was long but we felt the staff cared and took the best care of us even with our wait. And in the end it was worth the wait
Service far too slow, I had to cancel my next meeting and still didn’t have time for dessert
I had a voucher for my birthday and chose Social Eating House. The food was delicious and the staff were really attentive.
Really lovely meal in a great setting, staff extremely attentive and polite.
Service slow and inattentive. Our table was 8.30pm we finally had our main course @ 10.20pm. The food was indifferent, the foie gras overcooked and hard. The steak a cold solid slab. The hype on where the ingredients are sourced meaningless as the end result is poor.
My family dined here to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. We are from NYC, so have been to our fair share of good restaurants. This place is fantastic and would match well with any of NYC’s best. We had an early reservation but were treated well from the start. The staff was friendly and attentive. The ambience was just right; a combination of dark wood and modern lighting and active crowd that felt lively but still allowed easy conversation. The five course tasting menu was one of the best dining experiences we have had. The scallop ceviche was excellent; smoky and tender but with crunch. The toasted sunflower seeds a perfect taste accompaniment. Next was turbot with barley, baby squid rings and mushroom jus that was also excellent. Barley in the jus was perfect. Turbot cooked just right, seared on surface, tender inside. Lamb with lentil falafel, spiced yogurt sauce and tomatoes was fantastic. Lamb was tender and delicate, perfectly done. Spiced eggplant compost was a great accompaniment. The additional Cheese course - the Devon Blue was exceptional. Then on to the apple sorbet with tart yogurt foam which was a lovely transition to dessert. We finished with a chocolate tort with tarragon ice cream that combined for a truly unique taste and a big finish. I highly recommend the wine pairing as well. The sommelier is very personable and the wines well paired. You will pay well for this level of food and service but it’s totally worth it.
Social Eating House was really good value for money. Staff are friendly and the restaurant has a very laid back vibe. Food was really good.
We went for the pre fixe menu. Was very pleased with the meal and the value for it. Starter and main were lovely. Dessert of lemonade parfait was a bit too sour for my liking. Needed to be a bit toned down. Noise level is quite high in the restaurant, however that’s the overall vibe of the place. Good meal overall.
The lunch appetizer was great (cod), but the the oil for the main lunch (duck fat fries) came out too strongly. Overall a good experience at a Michellin, with attentive staff.
For the place it is and the reputation Atherton has this trip was average. You pay a good amount for a meal. Service were fine but nothing to say they were welcoming.... Food you expect to be wow'd... It was bang average.
I wouldn't say I wouldn't go back but I won't be rushing there again
Starter and desserts was great ! The main ( steak ) was a disappointment .
What a joy. When confirming the booking was asked if we wanted a table in the bar pre-meal which obv we did. Greeted by really helpful staff, escorted up to private bar which was really well done out. Was with an American business friend who ordered two gin martini's with quite specific instructions and the waiter totally understood - more than I did - perfectly mixed then after a while taken downstairs to the restaurant. Great atmosphere, brilliant service - especially the sommelier who really took his time to make sure we got perfect match to our food, insanely great starters - crab and the egg then we shared the cote de boeuf with the truffle supplement which was pure death row last meal level perfection. I've been to sister restaurants Pollen St and Social Tapas but as an overall experience this topped both. A genuine top class treat.
Nice place to go but quite noisy and definitely not your ordinary Michelin star restaurant.
Very noisy, could barely have a conversation in the dining area. Food wasn't great (vegetarian menu)
We had the tasting menu which was beautiful married to amazing wines but our waiter Emilione was amazing. Highly recommend this place. The food was just divine.
When we arrived (15 minutes before my booking) our table wasn't ready. So we decided to wait. However, our table was still not ready at the actual time of the booking and they kept us waiting and additional 25 minutes. As we booked quite late already, this was a bit annoying. Considering we were about to have a very expensive dinner too, it would have been nice to be offered a free drink to make the time waiting a bit more pleasant.
However, the food and service foe the rest of the evening was very good.
The food was really good however the service was really bad. It felt like they were understaffed.
We got recommendations for a wine to pair with the food, the only problem was that we got the wine about 5-10 minutes after the food.
Getting water refills or drink was very though as well. So the waiting time for meals/drinks was very long.
Beside that the food was really good and tasty.
I was expecting the food to be really good as it has a Michelin star. The food was nice but nothing to get excited about. I thought it was expensive for what I was. I wouldn’t go here again.
We came early and so the restaurant was quiet to begin with. Nice table in the corner. First time.
Food was really excellent - the flavour combinations exceptional. Servive is good in the sense that there are plenty of staff . But to be top notch it needs to have more people who look as if they care about the diners. We found it just a little cold and impersonal
The treck from the kitchen to the tables may make it difficult to have the food as hot as it should be.
Wine list didn't match the quality of the food.
But all in all would not hesitate to eat here again because the food is outstanding.
Great meal and good friendly service.
Really lovely experience with very tasty food & wonderful service
We visited Social Eating House to celebrate our honeymoon - we were visiting London from Canada - and absolutely loved the meal we enjoyed there. We ordered the sampling menu plus the classic wine pairings and found both the food and the service to be excellent. Our favourite part was learning about the wines selected for our meal from the restaurant’s sommelier.
Great food and service as always at the Social Eating House. It's most definitely social! If you're looking for a quiet or intimate meal for 2 then this probably isn't the place but for everything else it's just brilliant.
Had the pre-theatre menu - excellent value for money and delicious. Service was exquisite and highly recommended!
Lovely restaurant with an incredible choice of delicious food. Service was top notch.
Great attentive service and the food was so good! Would highly recommend it and go back again.
Overall a great experience to celebrate our anniversary, they even left us a handwritten card and a cake to take home. We went for the lunch set menu so great value for money. They food was lovely and tasty though the steak was not tender enough. Great vegeterian options for me, yummy twist on mac & cheese.
The atmosphere and service are great, only problem is it gets quite noisy and loud when full, acoustics is not so great...
Will go back!
This was my second trip to the Social Eating House and was just as good as I remembered. We chose the five course tasting menu and my husband had the paired wines. Every course was beautifully displayed and tasted fantastic. The service was attentive but never intrusive. A lovely evening.
Great experience but you do pay for that . I guess a place that is expensive but delivers if you can afford it.
