Great food. Great ambiance. But the veggie menu was a bit repetitive (you’d better like broccoli) and, while GF seemed to be something they could initially accommodate, it all seemed to get hard (GF bread turned up with apologies 5 mins after the starter was cleared away).
Perhaps to do with GF, who knows, main course took forever to arrive - I love a chat between meals but this was a little too long when proper hungry.
Food was great - I loved the fish courses and my wife does love broccoli!
Turned up late and they were very accommodating. Salmon, pork, and tiramisu were particularly delicious
Service, food and cocktails are amazing. Definitely coming back and recommending. So good! Thank you
Great range of food, very well-prepared - the menu changes, so it may not always be to your tastes. Service excellent and great wine list.
Fantastic value for a pre theatre dinner. Food was delicious and service was great.
This is one of the most expensive restaurants, given its value proposition, that I have experienced to date. And I am not an inexperienced restaurant-goer. Food, service, ambiance was all good to great, but far too expensive. Clearly I am in the minority, as the restaurant was fully booked.
Had a lovely stay to my evening at this restaurant . I will definitely revisit .
The staff could not have been more welcoming and the unexpected touches we received in recognition of the event being my mothers birthday were outstanding. Would HIGHLY recommend.
The food, service and ambience were all lovely. A great place to catch up with friends.
It's a lovely restaurant with character and the service was attentive. We had high hopes but we found the food was a little underwhelming though, some dishes were too salty and the chocolate fondant didn't have the expected melt in the middle chocolate oozing out of it. Didn't try the wine, but can recommend the G&T cocktails! And the cheeseboard selection was great 👍
Took them twenty minutes to seat us and then another ten to fifteen before anyone came for our order. Food was good but not worth the prices.
Food is outstanding in a wonderful venue. Staff are delightful and the sommelier telling you which wine to have with each course is a brilliant touch. Highly recommend, but will need to save up for it.
Fantastic food and very good service. Fine dining in a relaxed casual environment. The ribeye was perfect. Superb cocktails. Possibly the best sommelier I have ever had, in terms of speaking plainly and concisely about the reds on the list, with a great recommendation.
Lovely ambiance, food perfectly presented and prepared. Staff very professional and friendly whilst we were eating. However, once we’d finished dessert and didn’t want coffee I got the feeling it was time to leave - our napkins were whipped away and no more water was offered. I’d have liked to stayed a bit longer as I had met my best friend from childhood, whom I hadn’t seen for a few years. We still had lots of catching up to do but I got the impression it wasn’t the kind of place you lingered around talking after you’ve finished. It was a disappointing end to a lovely lunch.
The quality of the food really sets this place apart and the service was attentive without being obtrusive. Would have preferred a side table but overall a great dining experience - would definitely recommend
Great venue !
Amazing food and drinks !
Great service too !
Very nice and we will be back for a fuller experience. We came for a pre theatre meal, so wasn't as relaxing as it could have been if we had all evening but staff worked well and quickly and the food came out in good time and was excellent. Only minor niggle, but understandable, was that as we ordered from the set menu and the venison is cooked only as the chef wants to serve it, my wife asked if it could be done medium rare and was told no. I thought it was fair enough but may annoy some people.
Wonderful evening! We had pretheatre menu which was great value, excellent food! Specilal thanks to sommelier for recommendation!
I booked Social Eating House for the birthday of my boyfriend. We visited London and I was eager to find an upper yet not stiff restaurant. As we are real foodies and like to eat in a variety of ways from street food to fine dining, we go with adjusted expectations wherever we eat out.
Food: first of all the food was excellent especially the vegan menu
Service. I had a broken glass of wind standing in front of me, it had a huge whole that no one could ever not notice when placing it. However I got a new one when the wine came which we had to remind the waiter (were served by 3 different ones-not used to such practice in a Michelin star restaurant). Also they did forget which wine we ordered. After the starter we had to wait for ages on the main course which we had to remind the server again. All in all the service did not pay attention at all, did not look at us the whole evening, didn‘t react to signs of attention seeking and was totally swamped.
Last but not least I mentioned that it‘s my partner‘s birthday and they did not mention it at all nor did they organize a nice table.
Atmosphere: the restaurant itself looks nice, well furnished and cool interior. However the people next to us (a group of 6-8 men) was behaving as if they were sitting in a pub having the 15th round of beer. They were super loud and rude. No one of the waiter did anything about it although the whole other guest were annoyed.
All in all I wouldn‘t go again but just for the service not for the food
We sat in our tables and we ordered the drinks and 2 stakes and a ceviche . After about 15 minutes the waiter came and told us that the stakes have finished . We didn’t like anything else and we left after paying the drinks .
Not the best experience moreover for. Restaurant like this.
whilst the food was good, service was terrible. We spent ages waiting to order, ages waiting our drinks.
In addition there was an extremely loud and drunk table who looked like they finished eating at lunchtime and were still drinking at dinner. The table was right next to ours and the staff continued to give them shots and alcohol. It got so bad most of the remaining tables around us either left or moved table.
Not what I would expect in such a high end restaurant . A good Manager would of either asked the offending table to move to the bar or explained that they were disturbing other guests and needed to leave
It was interesting to experience British Fine Dining and to find good quality bread and a drinkable espresso in London. The rest of the evening wasn't revealing any notable sensation or experience, sadly. The Scallops in starters were killed by the face-slapping acidity, main courses were good in taste but didn't offer any brilliant side and the cheesecake in the desert was straight up disappointing. We liked the more classy compositions in the chocolate cake and the milktarte, but I didn't understand the idea of the cheesecake, neither refreshing with a balanced lactic component nor cheesy with slight fruit. Just tasted sour to me, which was tried by adding a lot of sugar in sauce, filling and crust to the plate.
Service was a little bit to cautious in my opinion, as we had to ask for new bread and haven't been explained about the wine.
The 2014 Skylark Orsi Vineyard Pinot Blanc was far over the point and isn't a wine that should be cellared so long. The nose was very minimal, on the palate there was only acidity left, fruit nearly completely gone and through its fermentation and aging in stainless steel it doesn't offer any walnut notes. Really don't understand why the sommelier offers such an overaged young-to-drink wine and when ordered doesn't even say that it might be too old to still be enjoyed. Taking 80£ for that experience is incomprehensible to me.
Maybe I am too pampered from French, Italian and German Haute Cuisine and Fine Dining, but overall Social Eating House is not an experience I would recommend after what I was undergoing through the evening.
We had the January pre theatre menu. Loads to choose from beautifully presented. And weren’t left hungry after two courses!
The table was 50 minutes late, and we waited forever to be served. Food was good. You’d better take more care of you customers.
Absolutely stunning menu, fantastic food and great service!
I would recommend the restaurant, however the service wasn’t up to standards. I felt like we were forgotten about and wasn’t attentive in the slightest. We ordered a bottle of wine when we sat down and our starters came out first before we even had a drink.
We had to pour our own wine, which isn’t something I’m overly bothered about but if you’re classing yourself as a Michelin star restaurant then this isn’t something we should be doing.
We did bring this to the managers attention at the end and he did kindly knock the service charge off the bill but of course this is all feed back and hopefully my comments are taken on board as the food was amazing.
Great menu - spoiled with choices! Amazing food and great service. Nice decor and not too fancy for a Michelin starred restaurant!
The pre fixe menu was outstanding value and we couldn’t fault the service. My only critique would be that the vegetarian option of macaroni cheese was over seasoned. Everything else was outstanding especially the beetroot starter. We will be returning to try the a la carte menu.
Great evening in a great restaurant with great food - what more could one ask for. Only quibble would be slow service of first course, had to ask if they would arrive soon !
I was recommended Social Eating House and I was not disappointed. My husband received an award so I wanted to take him out for lunch that was an experience without breaking the bank. On arrival we were greeted with a smile and shown to our table. The restaurant was semi full which was lovely as it had enough atmosphere without the excessive noise! The waiting staff were amazing, cannot fault the service at all. The food was second to none, it was beautifully presented and tasted sublime. We sampled some cocktails from The Blind Pig, all were incredible and reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. Thank you all for a fabulous experience, you made our day!
The staff seemed rather disinterested. The flashing light under the bar was just distracting and looked as though it needed correcting. The food was good but the main was incredibly salty and overpowering with garlic (and no mention of this on the menu); dessert was 'treacle and almond tart' but not quite as we all expected. We ventured upstairs for an after-dinner cocktail and we felt there was a off-putting drain smell...really quite obvious and I asked a colleague who had been there the weekend before and he had agreed! Most odd. Seems as though the restaurant has lost it's appeal somewhat. A shame.
A lovely bar and restaurant with great food and cocktails. Service was impeccable and a number of really thoughtful touches during a birthday celebration. Will definitely be back soon!
