Great dinner and ambiance. Server/waitress was not. Surprisingly rude and unfriendly.
Really poor and inattentive service. Not helped that our table wasn't ready when we arrived and we had to wait 15 minutes. Sloppy service, no attention to detail, had to fight to get attention (even though it wasn't full in the restaurant by the time we sat down). Wine arrived after food etc. Food was very good and ambience and appearance of restaurant lovely but service really disappointing and not good enough overall to make us want to go back.
Delicious, generous portions for a pre theatre deal, making this extremely good value for a top tier restaurant
For a Michelin 1 star restaurant, we were disappointed. The service was long, the waitresses did not explain the dishes served, as they were beginners.
The artichoke was ok but too salty. The fish was good. The ragu and pasta were too salty. The person ate only one third of his dish. It did not surprise the waitress.
The cocktails were good. but it is not a bar it is a Michelin 1 star restaurant!
We paid the charges of 12% but you did not deserve it.
I have already lunched and dined at different Michelin 1 star restaurants. The experience is not comparable to your establishment. It was almost perfect from A to Z with the cuisine and the service.
A wonderful meal, lived up to expectations and more. Food was sublime and the service excellent and the little touches made a special evening even better.
This has to be the most generous Michelin star award in London. Very underwhelming. Average food. No wow factor and fantastically expensive for what it was. Better food and value available from many other restaurants in the area.
Only issue was my chair being knocked as the diners behind me took their seats but overall a great experience with outstanding food and fabulous service on my wife’s birthday. One of our best meals this year.
Good atmosphere, great cocktails. We had the lunch set menu & given that it's a lunch deal at a Michelin star I wasn't expecting massive portions, but I did expect super tasty food. Taste was ok but not great, and i did expect more than a couple of sliced plums for the dessert!
Staff were great.
I'd recommend to a friend for drinks but not food.
Noisy, happy ambiance with great service and food.
Inspiring food creations. Good wine list. Good location. Recommended!
Great food, staff and atmosphere (slightly noisey).
This restaurant behaves like the cliche of a star-rated without being one.
The only positive point, the food: it was delicious and the presentation really beautiful, we feasted.
And for the rest :
- The waitress was apathetic and made the experience disappointing.
- The wait was endless (2 hours for just a dish and a dessert).
- The atmosphere was extremely noisy (unfortunately I do not exaggerate we barely heard each other).
- Suit up and put your classiest clothes if you dont't want to feel that you don't belong here.
Great atmosphere. Delicious food
Loved the pre-theatre menu!!
Gorgeously low lit ambiance with enough chatter to make it a relaxed experience.
The gazpacho on the Devon crab starter was a revelation and the rabbit Bolognese was rich and flavourful. The turbot was a particular favourite of ours.
Your staff were so attentive and it made our anniversary dinner so special.
Thankyou so much
Amazing food and tasting menu was outstanding. A memorable lunch - perfect for special occasions.
Belated birthday lunch for my husband post a private guided tour of the City of London. Perfect end to the day in town. Every course was cooked and presented to perfection. Great atmosphere and service - a wonderful early start to the weekend!
Fantastic place. Great service and food incredibly tasty and beautifully presented. Buzzy atmosphere. Would go back in a heartbeat.
We had an incredible dining experience here! The ambiance is great, they had excellent service throughout the meal, and the food was delicious and imaginative with great cocktails. Will definitely revisit next time we are in London.
The location is great, very relaxed atmosphere and the staff were so helpful. I was amazed that there was a birthday card for my partner when we got to our table.- how lovely. The food and wine was just out of this world. Never tasted food as good. I could only describe the flavours - like a symphony when different instruments kick in at different times- that’s how it was with the food. Each mouthful discovering new hints of flavours. We took our 13 year old daughter and she tried everything and said it was the best steak she had ever had. We would recommend and we will be back. The cocktail bar upstairs is a must before or after your meal or both. It is like a restaurant of drinks. Our waiter George was amazing. Great advice on the drinks and very attentive making sure we were welcomed and comfortable. Don’t let him go - he is a gem. Thank you to everyone though for an experience we will never forget. We came to celebrate a birthday and were really looking forward to our visit to Social Eating House having visited The Blind Pig before. The staff were attentive and friendly and service was great; the drinks were lovely however the quality of our food was extremely disappointing. Two of us ordered the Cote de Beouf to share - unfortunately as we ate we realised that the cut of meat was extremely fatty (about 75% fat) and should never have been allowed to be cooked let alone be served. The bits of meat that were edible were delicious but it was a real disappointment especially for restaurant which has held a Michelin Star for a number of years but the fat was a real issue. The manager did reflect this disappointment in the final bill however, sadly, it did add a sour note to a birthday celebration.
I booked this as an inexpensive michelin set lunch for my wife. She was a bit down, we'd been let down by a friend.
I found on line the chefs counter experience. I requested it and fortunately it was available.
We arrived early n had drinks in the bar upstairs. The boys there were great n very welcoming. Its a shame it was early, 1pm, because we were the only punters. It was too quiet.
We were escorted to our seats right adjacent to the kitchen serving counter. Deano, our waiter, looked after us totally. We chose the chefs tasting menu (so much for the cheaper set menu). 7 courses of fantastic food that we watched being prepared. The sommelier sorted us with accompanying wines.
We had a chat with the head chef, Paul Hood, afterwards. Top bloke!
Would I recommend the Social Eating House???? Absobloodylutely!!!
Food great service great sat at the chef's counter
My sister and I really enjoyed the food. We couldn’t fault anything that was served!
First I want to say that we had a great experience in the upstairs bar before being seated. The drinks and service were great. Once we got seated no one stopped by the table for 25 minutes. At that time we flagged someone down to at least get drinks. Talking to the tables around us we were not the only ones. The service during the dinner was fine. The food was good but not good enough to make up for the poor service before and after the meal. Have a drink upstairs and eat somewhere else.
It was an unfortumate night as firstly we were out right near the door so continually had people walking in and standing around our table. The waitress asked if we’d like dessert after our first course and then our main course took about 3/4 hour to appear after we finally chased it up. Not what we were expecting of such a renowned restaurant.
Our starters were amazing, the trout with horseradish and beetroot was fantastic, upon the serving of the main course, my wife's steak was extremely tough and chewy, with a large amount of gristle, when mentioning this to the waiter, his reply was, that's how it is sometimes with rump steak, this unfortunately spoilt the experience, the cocktail in the blind pig beforehand was nice and the bar staff friendly. But this restaurant is no where near the high end experience we have had during our visits to pollen Street social
My husband and I came here on a Saturday night and ordered the Sample Menu, which is an excellent value! Every dish was inventive, surprising, and most importantly, delicious. Service was friendly and personable. Highly recommended!
We went for a birthday meal, and it was nice, but not amazing. We had to ask for the tasting menu, which they did let us have, I think because we were dining on the early sitting they were a little reluctant. The food was largely okay, mostly just not to my taste, which isn't their fault per se, but there was nothing outstanding that I loved, and quite a lot that I didn't really like. That being said, the staff were all lovely, and we felt well looked after.
Excellent service. Took my partner out for her birthday and got a little birthday card as well as a to-go cake as a surprise. Vegetarian/Vegan food was masterful. Price was OK for the quality but on the spicy side. Definitely a place I would go again.
The food was excellent, as expected. It was a shame we didn't leave ourselves enough time for dessert before our theatre show time as they sounded amazing.
We came with the intention of having the tasting menu with matching wines for a special occasion - but decided against it because the atmosphere did not seem right for such a fine dining experience. So instead we went for the set menu - which was excellent food and good value with a carafe of good wine included. Whilst individual staff were very pleasant, the overall service was far from my expectation of Michelin standard. But maybe this is the point of the Social Easting House. Come to enjoy some relaxed dining of good food with friends. By the noise levels in the restaurant’s acoustic, it was clear lots of people were enjoying themselves. We did too, but had to modify our expectations to do so.
Good food, very nicely presented. Service is excellent.
Birthday celebration__ Everything was perfect. Service was exceptional
Friendly service, really nice food. Nice ambience, weren’t rushed. Great evening, would go back.
Dont get me wrong. The food here was great. The service on the other hand was horrid. After delivering the dessert menu, our server disappeared and with him our desire for dessert (after that, we waited about 20 minutes for someone to come ask if we needed anything, and another 10 for the check to appear after our request). The restaurant was not at capacity either. It's mystifying how this place has a Michelin star. We've been to many Michelin starred restaurants in the US and there must be a different marker for excellent service in the UK. Very disappointing.
We came for the pre-theatre special and found the whole experience great, food & service were exceptional.
Disappointed by the environment inside. I understand the more relaxed positioning of this versus other Social group restaurants but this was done in a way that meant we left very disappointed. The tables were no more than 30cm apart and our entire conversations were shared as were the couple next to ours with one another. It was impossible to avoid this and this led to a very disappointing experience. Some of the larger group tables would probably be ok but I would avoid booking this in a group of 4 or less.
For a waiter to serve the middle table of 3 x 2 seat tables he had to squeeze between our table and the adjacent table meaning we constantly had a view of the back of their trousers next to our drinks and food... not the premium experience I would expect from this restaurant or for the amount spent on food
The meat was extremely tasty and cooked perfectly but the chips with the steak had almost no taste at all and I have had better from some high street chains. Other parts of the food were very good but again it was hard to enjoy with the tables being so tightly packed in. It meant we never fully relaxed and were happy to eat and go which is not what I had wanted for a dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday.
The noise levels were high but this was not a problem and forms part of the restaurant's positioning but how crowded it felt did not fit with the price tag.
Service was ok but again not anything above what you would experience at 99% of other restaurants.
If it wasn't for the Jason Atherton name and reputation I do not think this restaurant could get away with charging anything close to, or deserve to be able to charge anything close to, the prices it does as the overall execution is not befitting of this.
We needed to make the theatre and the staff was superb at making sure everything arrived quickly. We really enjoyed the experience!
The food was great and the cocktails well worth it. A relaxed place.
