SMITHS Of Smithfield Ground Floor Cafe
Not to scare off any vegetarians though, as there's also plenty of veggie options.
The Ground Floor transitions into 'SMITHS' Bar early evening so if you are in the mood, finish your coffee and see day through to night with a local craft beer, glass of wine or a cocktail with a 'SMITHS' twist.
Perfect place in my neighbourhood for a Sunday brunch.
Plenty of food and great service. Also very affordable.
I ordered steak and eggs, they forgot the eggs - when the eggs finally arrived I had finished my meal.
No adjustment to the bill, and they got the drinks order wrong too.
Wasn’t the waitress’ fault. I saw her ask the manager about the bill, and he told her not to reflect the poor service.
I don’t recommend this restaurant.
Very slow service. Took 50 mins to get breakfast.
Virtually no service at all. Very short staffed. Took 10 mins to catch someone’s eye to get milk for my tea!
Bacon hard, beans terrible.
A decent place. Still going strong and worth a visit.
Great breakfast. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs cooked perfectly
Really good lunch sandwiches.
Food was terrible (chicken burger tasteless, focaccia hard), service took too long even though it was mostly empty, but the bloody Mary was fantastic. Haven't been in a while and won't be back again soon.
Good location close to Farringdon station. Food and service was fine also. Would use this place again for a meeting place for a quick bite before work.
The venue is really nice, great for big groups of friends / colleagues. The food was good, but the service a little slow, we had to wait 45 minutes for the food to arrive. At least we had the drinks quickly. Overall, I do recommend!
Had the full English which was excellent. Great venue and a good meeting pint for a friends get together.
£14.50 for a burger, and a mediocre one at that did not endear me to Smiths of Smithfield. They did not even have a record of my booking despite being shown the reservation on a mobile. It was fortunate that the place was quite at the time we visited.
Despite Smiths/opentable emailing, texting and phoning to confirm my reservation they couldn't find it when I arrived!
Food was good, reasonably noise level at lunch time and good for an informal business chat.
It took 15 mins for someone to take my drink order and another 15 to get my drink.
Our food was left on the side for so long that it was cold by the time we got it 35 mins after we ordered it.
Definitely not enough staff to cover so many lunch time covers and one waitress didn't seem to care too much about her job and made poor mistakes like leaning over eating clients to put drinks across the table.
Hopefully just an off day but wasn't very impressed. Plus side is, if the food was hot, it would have been great value. Prices are fair.
I booked online using Opentable for 4 covers. I called just before the booking time to say 2 more people would be joining, and they couldn't see my booking. They told me I should book on their own website in future, but that she would make the reservation over the phone for me now. By the time my delegates arrived, the booking still had not been confirmed and there was no table under my name like they were expecting. This was a business meeting so it was not professional at all.
Overall a good meal - enjoyed a delicious three cheese macaroni and my companion had the classic burger. However, the service distinctly slackened off towards the end - no offer of dessert, we had to pin down someone to get a coffee, no sugar brought with the coffees and then the bill was delivered (after we again pinned someone down) with no follow-up. After waiting an age (in a restaurant with only a few tables occupied by that time), I eventually had to get up to pay so I could get back to work! Why don't restaurants bring the card machine when they bring the bill?! Or at least do so quickly afterwards...?
I've been here a few times as I work quite near it. Both times were for breakfast on a weekend. Place is always buzzing in the cafe so best to make reservations. Breakfast options were good and good values. Staff always smiling and friendly and attentive. Very casual setting but weekends people do tend to dress up as their bottomless brunches are quite popular. I like this place, would go back for sure.
Breakfast - good choice and food
Really nice breakfast in a room with plenty of friendly atmosphere.
The staff were great and it was a very good start to the day.
They said they're no longer accepting OpenTable for reservations although OpenTable shows it as option for booking
Wanted a quick bite in the Farringdon area, and went to the ground floor bar for an enjoyable meal. Nice food, good value and great service.
We had a casual breakfast on the 1st floor. We will return.
Not one of the staff was friendly and we felt that they were impatient with us. We hadn't seen each other for a long time so got talking and forgot to peruse the menu but the waiter seemed impatient. It's the job of the waiter to not look impatient at all... of course!
Bottomless brunch was good value for money and the options varied. However the service was incredibly slow even though it wasn't that busy. Felt a bit ignored at times but staff were very pleasant when they were serving.
Always a reliable brunch option on the weekend - great food and atmosphere . Though the crowds emerging from Fabric next door always make me feel my age!
Had a really nice breakfast on Friday, my only comment would be that the music was very loud and it was hard to hear what each other was saying!
Great spot to dine. We had a nice time and enjoyed ourselves.
Good value for money, friendly staff and tasty food all in a great setting!
Bottomless Brunch can't be faulted & the service was amazing.
There was some issue with booking & they had 2 reservations in the end but this was easily sorted.
The venue however was v cold, we were seated near the windows & it was freezing, other than that all good!
We have been many times and it didn't disappoint. Lovely
Always have a good meal here. Friendly staff, good food and a nice atmosphere
Lively informal dining with good food and pleasant service
Good food, good service and fun environment, but a little loud.
Positives - buzzing bar, lots of people in lunch break. I went with baby in pram. Very easy to navigate around the bar and lift access to toilets/change room on first floor.
Negatives - waiter was a bit patronising. I asked if they served hot drinks, he laughed, rolled eyes and said 'we're a cafe, of course we do' - pity he hadn't left me a menu on our table to highlight this.
I ordered hot chocolate, it wasn't great. The BBC Apprentice losing team probably get something possibly better while waiting in the cafe for Lord Sugar to bring the axe down on one of their heads.
I ordered chicken burger - it was overlooked and would possibly have made a great chew toy for pets. Friend ordered regular burger. Same as mine, over cooked, dry and uninspiring. Maybe we just made a bad choice or the staff were having a bad day. I hope so as I used to really like this venue.
Quick and efficient service, limited but fine menu of basics to eat at lunch - especially if time limited. Not many similar set ups in the area and was accessible to the people meeting.
Service really slow, had to grab their attention several times. Food good and tasty, great value for money
We went as a group for the Saturday bottomless brunch, and it was great. The food was lovely, with a good variety of choices (healthy-unhealthy!) and the free-flow prosecco was delicous. Our waiter David (2 thumbs up!) was awesome and friendly and generous. Would highly recommend if your after a fun brunch with mates.
had the bottomless brunch offer, great music, fantastic ambience!
Rather disappointed. Interesting location and menu looked OK however the execution was poor. Bacon should be well cooked if it's fatty and don't bury the black pudding under a mountain of mushrooms whilst being stingy with the baked beans. And when it says toast I expect something firmer than a slice of warmed bread.
Consistent experience with nice food and a slow service in a beautiful setting. Great place if you have time to spare at lunch
